Good morning everyone. I’ve been awake since 4.
More gardening today, and as it’s Sunday, breakfast. We only have it at weekends…during the week we don’t eat until about 12. A 16-8 fast.
Other than that a quiet day. Best wishes to all, enjoy the weather .

Good morning from a barely dawning Bristol. It’s dry.

Yesterday’s balloons had mostly risen by the time we reached a less treed area. Only about 5 or 6 “hatched” while we watched. The wind blew them over the city centre, mostly following the Avon upstream. We would have had a fabulous view from DD’s house - but they’re in France atm! We came back here for the picnic breakfast I had prepared.

I was terribly tired having had a bad night, also my foot was hurting as gout was playing up. The pills have stopped the pain now.

I got to church all ready for the coffee and chat, only to find that my partner hadn’t arrived. She came barely 5 minutes before”opening”. It was extremely busy, about 25 people attended. It proves that older attendees especially really need this facility in august, exactly because everything else has shut down and family is away on holiday.

Today, nothing much after church. Probably, some patchworking.

Good morning from a fine, dry Torbay with sunshine expected.

Yesterday we attended a busy coffee morning at church before walking round to see my hairdresser. She is a delightful young woman besides being the best stylist I’ve found since moving down here in 2011! She’s about to buy her first house so I had bought her a voucher from Dunelm. Afterwards, we bought freshly baked pasties for lunch - DH's favourite treat when staying here.

Later I rang an old friend whom I’ve known for over 50 years who is in a care home in Leighton Buzzard. His wife died last month and he has Parkinson's and low BP but hopes to be able to live back at home eventually. He was in remarkably fine spirits and it was good to hear him laugh a few times.

A blessed Sunday to all especially those in need of our thoughts and prayers. 🦩💐✝️🥰🦩

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it’s going to be hot. Yesterday DD and the menfolk called over after test driving a new car (jury’s out) and we went and ate a dreadful lunch in our local pub, followed by a lovely walk round the valley. We watched buzzards over the woods. I spent most of the evening looking for my watch, which I knew was in the house somewhere as I remember taking it off. I got quite upset when I couldn’t find it as I’ve had it a long time and feel “undressed” without it. It turned up down the side of the reclining chair in the conservatory just before I went to bed! Not sure what today will bring. Some cooking for the freezer and a potter round the garden I expect.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Good morning from south Glos, were it’s pleasantly cool at the moment.
We had a lovely dog walk yesterday, the fields had been harvested and we watched several red kites drifting around in the thermals, a beautiful sight.
I spent several hours doing coloured pencils work, very relaxing and absorbing.
Today more of the same.
Have a lovely day 🌹

Good morning from an already sunny N. Bucks. I’m up early with the two boys and looking forward to our family BBQ at DD2s later.
Wishing you all a good day.

Good morning from a brightening, cool Cornwall. Am about to get a bus to my son's house in a village a few miles away, where I'll be staying for a week while the family go to France. I'll be in charge of a bearded dragon, a hamster, two rabbits, countless sticklebacks in a pond plus - my very favourite - a colony of ants in a vivarium, which are amazing to watch. It's a lovely cool spacious house so I shall enjoy it there, especially as the weather is forecast to be hotter than I can manage during the week.

It's on a main bus route so I'll still be able to get to the coast when I'm missing it. 😊

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, early for me but I’ve been awake for ages and having brought a cup of tea up to bed, I’m planning to go back to sleep. I’ve been really tired all weekend and having slept most of yesterday I forced myself out to Vigil mass last night so I can do much the same today!

Having the injection into my eye on Thursday was actually fine but I think the worry about possible deterioration in my eyesight has taken a bit more out of me than I thought.

It’s pretty cool here anyway, the heating has come on for the first time in months and bed seems an attractive option for now so I’ll wish everyone a good day and return to snoozing.

Good morning Mike and all GN's on a still but brightening morning here in North Yorkshire. Had a lovely day yesterday but of course as the saying goes "Take what you want - and pay for it"

Well that is exactly true for me today. Woken up very early with awful cramp and trying not to scream out loud and wake the neighbours!! My flipping left leg was excruciating pain, as it seized up and was so painful and absolutely hell. There is so little I can do to help things. Just try to get my food on the cold kitchen floor, when I can move, but even that is very painful and even when it hurts less, it still judders and I have to move very carefully. Any false move will mean that it locks up again and will take ages to ease off. Ah well I suppose it got me up early!! I plan to go to see another garden on the moors and before I set off I have a fair bit to do. Go through all the stuff in the boot from yesterday. Make up the picnic for today, put spare stuff in such as sandals and shorts as it might warm up a lot. And most importantly get some fuel in before I set off as did a fair few miles yesterday.

So yesterday, a rubbish night but being awake early, I got the car sorted out, picnic organised and of course most importantly coffee things all sorted. Then set off and a lovely drive on quiet roads across through Malton and down towards Bridlington. Found a quiet little side road to park up and have my picnic, make my coffee and enjoy all the countryside, and then was at the garden in Bempton, about 1.30pm. I have visited this garden before, and it is always lovely to go back and see how a garden has changed. A beautiful garden with lots to see. Some of the acers in pots have grown quite a lot since I last saw them and looked marvelous. Some clever wire geese added to another area. You can always tell a garden which is looked after by the owners. There is always good seating around the garden, for different times, Some facing the early morning sun, others an evening seat etc. Loved it and enjoyed speaking to the owners and other keen gardeners. Then left and drove up to whitby as there was meant to be a regatta happening, Which as a sailor of course I am interested in.

So even passed that g reat cheap garden place at Reighton to get to whitby in time to see the boats. Needn't have worried the boat regatta was cancelled and is happening on monday. But still fine.

I was lucky to find a disabled parking space near the harbour. It is impossible for me to get out of an ordinary parking space , especially as cars are bigger these days and some of the parking bays have not been increased in size. I need to open the door wide, and take my time and use the handle above the door to get out. Then have to just stand there until the pain eases off a bit before I can move or walk anywhere. So it can be difficult when places are busy. However got a decent place at the harbour, and was able to go across to a Weatherspoons, which I dont normally use them , not my cup of tea, but they do do one good thing cheaply! By this time of day my flask is either empty or gone cold and I am in need of coffee. Dont drink and drive, but at wetherspoons you can pay £1.75 for coffee. You pay the money, they give you a cup and then you go over to their coffee machine and make whatever coffee you want. so hot and fresh, and even better you can refill it as often as you want. So paid my money, made my coffee and was able to find a seat outside and be able to sit there with my drink, watching the harbour, and all the people wandering about.

Then I was just lucky. They do fishing trips with the boats , which doesnt interest me but occasionally have a sort of pirate boat which takes you up river and round the harbour etc, and I saw a pirate boat come in and went mad and paid £5 for a trip on the boat. There were a whole load of different people on board, families and also on this trip there were some assistance dogs being trained, so they manged to go down the stone steps but were not keen to get aboard the boat. They were persuaded in the end , so good training for their futures. Well the trip was great, lovely weather , a bit of a breeze , pirate hats for the children to wear if they wanted to. all the crew dressed as pirates and playing suitable music and songs. What shall we do with the drunken sailor etc etc. I of course joined in with the singing and enjoyed all the songs I knew by heart, and was able to encourage several children to join in, and especially a little girl who hadnt known any of the songs but by the end could join in all the chorus, and was delighted to join in with the actions. Had a nice compliment from a crew member as I left thanking me for joining in the singing and encouraging the children too. So it was still very bright sunshine and lots of people wandering about, and I eventually started on my way home, but didnt go on the main road but meandered through all the little villages and the moor, with very little traffic at all. Got home very weary but pleased with such a lovely day. Too weary to do much about sorting things out, but had radio 3 concert to listen to and found a concoction of soup and some bits and pieces for dinner. So , it was wonderful to think that I had managed to have a really lovely day and , of course some of the usual pains but overall the least frustrating day for months. I managed to do what I wanted to do , and not have to give in because of pain etc. So somewhat greedy to continue this success. I have seen another garden open today and so fingers crossed I shall repeat yesterdays great day.

So , I shall enjoy my sunday radio, with desert island discs, and private passions to listen to on my journey to the garden. Before I get going must water plants very thoroughly and hopefully if I am up to it I can plant them tonight. So it has been so nice to be able to send a positive post to you all and not be moaning about my back etc for once!! I do hope that other GN;s are free from pain and having a good start to their sunday today.

Glad you had a good view of the balloons grandMattie, would have enjoyed that myself. Hope everyone has a great day and is able to enjoy the weather and do something they want to do not just jobs!!

Morning Mick, morning All. Sun is up and the wind has dropped, a pleasant start to our corner of Somerset.

Yesterday we decided to head for breakfast at an excellent sea front cafe then assess flying sand. We emerged to see the promenade decorated with mini sand dunes and adults shielding their eyes while children seemed to be unaffected and played on. An RNLI volunteer cheerfully told us the wind was gusting at 38mph+. After a (very) short walk we headed to the shopping area to drop off a bag at a charity shop. That was the theory, the bag is still in the car boot. Oops! No matter, it will keep. Taking our exercise round the shops I was delighted to find two sale bargains. The afternoon was spent trying to advertise some items for sale, a thankless and I suspect fruitless task.

A garden day for me today. We’re forecast 24 degrees, my ideal temperature. The plan is to tackle the very untidy climbing roses and generally potter out there. Not sure about Mr C. He was suddenly stricken with cold symptoms yesterday afternoon, we’ll see how he feels. He may be better to rest and sleep.

Hope Sunday is kind to us all.

Sallyforth Sun 10-Aug-25 07:11:52

Good morning from a beautiful morning in Cheshire. We are expecting a hot day and I will make the most of pottering.

Some dead-heading and tidying to do in the garden, then I have to work on requests for paintings from family and a friend. One is almost finished, so that will be my task for today.

I'm supporting a old friend in Canada who is going through a tough time at the moment, via WhatsApp. Thank goodness for modern communication systems.

Enjoy your day whatever you may have planned. Kind thoughts for those with worries of any kind. flowers

Good morning everyone from a sunny mid Essex. Lovely full moon last night! My back was very achy yesterday but I managed my usual walk round the recreation ground. I did a little gardening, deadheading roses and removing hollyhocks which had fallen over. I’m not sure my lawn will recover from the continued lack of rain, at the moment it’s covered in yarrow so looks green.
Today I’ll start on the pile of ironing and continue gardening if my back holds out.
DD2 will come over this afternoon for a short while.

mizuna have fun looking after yourself son’s “zoo”, it makes my week of dog minding sound very tame!

I hope those who are poorly or anxious for any reason find some improvement today and that everyone has the best day possible.

Morning from a sunny S Hants.
Lovely sounding day Madeleine perfect.
I had a great Saturday, watered the greenhouse, mini cucumbers are going mad, then ploughed through the paper.
Son, daughter and granddaughter were here for a bbq in the afternoon, daughter and children are off Weymouth way camping for a few days later.
It’s due 25 today, just right, Tuesday 31, uncomfortable for me.
Bedding to wash, meat draw later, leftovers for dinner.
I hope Susan is improving.

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. A chat to DB this morning followed by a visit to check on DD2’s cat as she is away overnight. Sunday lunch to follow and then a read in the garden. Our lovely gardener has not been very well lately and we are wondering when he will feel able to come round again.
Best wishes

Good morning from s somerset, sunny all day today

A mixed day, yesterday, I did some soil transfer to my allotment, it is always nice up there and a good source of exercise. Then some time in my kitchen plus a lot of knitting and a bit of furniture-shifting in my living room, to take my recliner a bit further from the french doors. The only area overlooked in my house, a bedroom window at 90 degrees from me, new neighbours are coming in a few weeks and I cannot see that window now and of course they will not be able to see me lounging when my light is on

I made some red cabbage kraut when I got back, easy to make now that the magimix is in action, I added carrot, ginger and apple from my tree and just salt. All I needed to do was pound that mix to release the liquid and into the jar it went. The amount reduces a lot after the pounding. Photo

It made me think about a part of my garden, I put raspberries in 2 years ago and the plants are starting to be invasive and very much getting in the way in that small area of soil next to a gravel path. I would rather grow veg such as red cabbages, which I have grown often. The easy cabbages have such tight hearts that no creatures eat them. I am getting a handful of raspberries every day but they will be finished in two weeks and I will set to work on that soil. It is all about future-proofing, to make the garden easier. I have done a lot of that this summer

Today the heat will intensify early afternoon so I intend to go on a long cycle ride this morning, my battery is charged and I think I will tackle the very steep hill up past a windmill. Six years ago that hill took me by surprise, I had to get off and struggled to push my bike up, the bike weighs 26kg and of course there is no battery help unless pedaling. I find I can pedal up that hill now but it takes effort, it is always a good test of my stamina and fitness

The remainder of the day will be spent on reading and knitting, as well as prepping a couple of nice meals for myself

Have a good day

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny Inverness
Stilllearning take care and look after yourself, I hope you get a bit more rest today
We all had another enjoyable day yesterday, a trip to the park and a walk around the woods. Today I’ve a facetime call with DS to look forward to, then it’ll be very quiet later as DD1 and family are travelling home to Cambridge. I’ll certainly miss them all but we’ve had such a lovely few days together.
Goodness rather you than me Mizuna but enjoy your time away!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
Yesterday gave my car a good clean inside and out. It has its MOT this coming week. Quite a business as I keep so much stuff in it for my various trips, like *madeleine”. My hand held hoover doesn’t seem to last long before it needs recharging…

Today hopefully to Elizabeth Gaskell’s house in Manchester. I say hopefully, as this line is notorious for last minute cancellations and it’s a Sunday. I’m meeting an old friend there and it’s been on my bucket list for a long time.
Wishing you all a good day🌺

Kalu Sun 10-Aug-25 07:51:09

Good morning from Glasgow. A calm, dry morning with the sun breaking through promises to be a pleasant day.

We had a delicious meal in town last night for a family outing to celebrate GD1’s birthday. I felt DH’s absence keenly but kept it to myself and not dwell on it and was swept along with the laughter and chat at our table. I will go out at some point today for the cats tick and flea treatment in preparation to perform the major surgery she thinks a drop of liquid at the back of her neck deserves an Oscar winning melt down.

Have a pleasant Sunday all.

Bellasnana Sun 10-Aug-25 07:51:19

Good morning from Malta where it is going to ‘feel like’ 40°C today.

I woke at 4am then went back to sleep and now feel more tired than when I went to bed!

Had a busy day yesterday, it’s surprising how long it takes to do a bit of planting, cleaning, steam-mopping etc but it kept me out of mischief.

In the afternoon I walked up to the village to meet my friend and we had a good catch up over coffee. We then sat on a bench by the church until 7pm as it was so lovely by then, still hot but pleasant enough to sit watching the world go by and remarking how lucky we are to live here.

Watched tennis all evening and will do more of the same later on.

I loved reading about your day Madeleine, you have a way with words and I could just imagine the joy of that boat trip singing along with the children. You pack a lot into your days and I know and love all the places you mention. So sorry about the cramp though, it’s agony I know!

How kind of you Ashcombe, I’m sure your hairdresser appreciated your gift. I went into Dunelm with my goddaughter and wanted to change all the decor in my place, they have such lovely things!

I will go to Mass if I’m awake enough, the church has a/c so it ought to be ok. I remember the days of no a/c and everyone flapping fans to try not to pass out from the heat.

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

Gingster Sun 10-Aug-25 07:59:01

Good morning all and we’re due for another warm one.

Yesterday Dd, DGD and I enjoyed our day at Lake Meadows with picnic, a walk around the huge lake, feeding the ducks and geese, Ice cream and a good session in the playground . The funfair was there but DGD only wanted to go on the bungy Ijump. She’s getting to old for the inflatables.😢.

We were all shattered when we got home . The heat really takes it out of me. Hotter this week, oh dear! Sorry for those not experiencing this weather. Don’t mean to moan.

Dh and ds1 came home early from footie as Dh wasn’t feeling too good. I think the sun got to him too.

Today we’ll chill out and read the papers and relax.

Enjoy your days out and well done Madeleine, you don’t let your pains get in the way.👏. Have another lovely day.

Take care all. 🌼

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and sunny. Brook you will miss dd1 and family, I'm sure. Ashcombe I love a proper Cornish pasty. Madeleine your day yesterday sounded wonderful.
Yesterday I met up with a dear friend for breakfast at a restaurant which had been closed for repairs for months. The decor is much improved and the menu was too. We had a lovely time catching up. Back home the family arrived. Dsil did all the things I needed doing while dgs1 told me about his latest triumph. He can ride his bike without stabilisers. Dd sent me the video. It was lovely to see them all. They stayed for a coffee but had to go home because dgs2 was being very cheeky to his mum and dad. The boy is fearless. He regretted it though as he lost out on his favourite biscuit which mum had bought 😂Tesco delivered later and it's a lovely east European gentleman who always helps me to empty the boxes. He was telling me about his decorating done last week.
Today I have woken refreshed after a good sleep. Hurray! However you could stir my house with a stick. The plan today is to hang out a washing then get all the remaining rooms washed down. I'll cook something with chicken I think. And that will be my day. Have a good day all.
