How is everyone coping with the heat. I was out for my walk at 8am and not too bad but quickly heated up.
I will stay inside where it's a bit cooler for the rest of today.

The biggest negative that the successive heatwaves have generated is men in those creased and ultra-baggy Cargo shorts.......with beige socks.

I’m really strange. I just put on a summer vest and long sleeved pyjamas. Closed the bedroom windows. I can’t sleep unless it’s really hot. Brought up in tropical countries and parents had air conditioning with baby sister. They couldn’t afford it for me. I’m grateful.

This heat is 🥵🥵🥵🥵. I live in the north west it's been 30° in my living room from 8am until 9pm with the curtains shut and tower fan on full blast. It was 34° in my kitchen from 10. It's still 29° in there now .

At least having my dehumidifier running every night makes it comfortable to sleep.

We had a thunder storm and rain this afternoon and now it’s pleasantly cool. I hope that means a decent night’s sleep, too.

I had a slow and leisurely wander around Tesco yesterday, lingering by the freezers. But the heat smacked me straight in the face as I stepped back out🥵

Cabbie21 Thu 14-Aug-25 20:20:03

Yesterday was just too hot at 31degrees and humid. Awful.
Today I am away from home in an air conditioned hotel. Had to turn it off as I was chilly! I haven’t brought a cardigan just a light wrap and a mac.

It is never too hot for me, just love it, can sit in it all day long and have a wonderful day doing all my work outside when I possibly can.

I’ve just given myself heat exhaustion from going vigorous digging in the garden! I find the heat really debilitating (I’m reasonably fit) and am looking forward to cooler days (and nights.)

Oh! I did that the other day. I wasn't even vigorously digging, just weeding but the sun was on my back.

Drinking water with a tiny pinch of salt and a drop of honey is better than just plain water.

Granmarderby10 Thu 14-Aug-25 19:25:31

petra a fox wonders in! Amazing.

Granmarderby10 Thu 14-Aug-25 19:22:13

Re hot dogs it is advised to slowly poor cool water over them rather than drape wet towels on them- it can trap heat in their fur, then put wet towels down for them to lie on.

Sat out until 10.30 last night. I’ve had my fan on for last four weeks tbh.
In beautiful Ilkley today 😊

We don’t have fans. With the porch/ front door open and then the byfolds at the back your in a wind tunnel.
Literally your hair blows around.
Only trouble is, neighbourhood cats and sometimes a fox wander in.
It won’t be long before a seagull comes in. So far he stands just outside screaming his head off. 😂

We don’t have a heatwave in mid Wales. It’s been cloudy with a bit of drizzle until lunchtime today. It’s still cloudy, with the odd sunny spell now, low twenties.

Etoile2701 Thu 14-Aug-25 17:28:34

I haven't noticed ....

Labradora Thu 14-Aug-25 17:18:52

29 degrees?
Here in SW France at the moment we simply call that "Wednesday ".
(sorry couldn't resist that).
We have had nearly 40degrees although cooler today.
Shutters drawn and cooling fan on.
There is so much clothes washing to do; clothes changed twice a day and washing oneself two or three times a day.
38 to 39 this weekend then hopefully the intense part of the heatwave will be over.

It's pointless putting makeup on in this humidity because it just seems to slide off. But when I look in the mirror, without it, I look like a creepy jellyfish!

Greciangirl Thu 14-Aug-25 16:47:23

Surely dogs cool themselves down by panting,
If they are hot, they lay in the shade.
At least that’s what my dog used to do.

Having lived abroad for quite a while, I automatically go into heat mode. So I tend to be awake very early anyway, so if I need to go to supermarket go about 6am, , if I have to walk out in the heat, always look for the shady side of road to walk along. Wear cotton, with spare tops etc in my bag. Put a flannel in very cold water and wring out so not dripping. Put in a plastic bag and then put a small towel round that bag. In the car in the heat put this round your neck, lovely and cooling. If I am walking about, have flannel in plastic bag in my shopping bag so can use it to clean up and cool down. All windows open to a safe level and all curtains shut until evening. What cooking I do is usually either very early in the morning or late in the evening. Try to be sure I have made enough whatever to provide 2 meals from the one cook. Have plenty of salad stuff in. Put bottles of water in the fridge to be cool to drink.

You also find out exactly how much you like or dislike something. When you are prepared to still go out in the heat, you obviously love whatever it is. If you cant be bothered to go to something, perhaps you could leave that and still have some time to yourself. But most of all so long as I am clean and my clothes are clean the rest can go hang. I make the most of the lovely weather and enjoy it. Sad that I cannot go swimming yet but once I can go there it will be great.

We had a carpenter here doing some work. The sweat was dripping off the end of his nose. I felt bad for him. It's bad enough when you just have to sit still.

Dreadwitch Thu 14-Aug-25 15:28:20

I'm currently sat on my bathroom floor on a pile of cushions because it's the only room in my flat that's below 33 degrees, although it's still hot in here.

It's cooler outside right now but I'm taking medication that means I can't be outside I am the sun. I tried covering up but I felt liek I was cooking.

I hate it, I hate everything about the heat.

SueDonim Thu 14-Aug-25 15:11:06

I’m in Scotland, it was 29 here yesterday, which is outside my comfort zone. It’s about 26 today but I hope it will cool down a little more as now have a thunder storm and a little rain.

FranP Thu 14-Aug-25 14:59:43

Love it!

Little cloudy here today means that I can get out in the warm and attack the overgrown garden.

Ziplok Thu 14-Aug-25 14:46:37

I agree Terribul about the over the top commercial run up to the festive season that gets earlier and earlier - I was in The Range on Tuesday, and yes, they were starting to unpack stuff for Xmas 😲

Allira Thu 14-Aug-25 14:43:55

It's cooler today and we've had two or three showers - just when I thought it might be a good idea to do a bit of light gardening!

Just 23C now, breezy, blue sky and clouds.
