How is everyone coping with the heat. I was out for my walk at 8am and not too bad but quickly heated up.
I will stay inside where it's a bit cooler for the rest of today.

We are in the S E, I adore the hot weather, we get so little compared to the dull dark winter months which seem never ending.

Kate1949 Wed 13-Aug-25 10:46:42

I agree GG.

Very hot yesterday but did sit in the shade with a book for a while for about an hour and felt OK. I went to my usual Pilates class and every fan was blasting out so it was quite comfortable. It was horrid getting into the car though but luckily it cooled down fairly quickly.
The bats were brave enough to venture out in the late evening but it wasn't too hot then. Earlier the occasional bird had a 'bath' in the pond and then flew into the tree nearby which has loads of leaves so hopefully they were able to cool down

I envy those who enjoy the heat. I used to love it but the last few years as I head to 80 I find it tiring.
I love looking out of my window to see the hills in glorious sunlight. So lovely.

Up to about 28 is fine, it really depends on the humidity, I’ve been happy in 36- 40 abroad, dryer heat though.

Jaxjacky Wed 13-Aug-25 11:07:47

drier…

Georgesgran Wed 13-Aug-25 11:09:08

Just out and about as usual. Car roof down, sunglasses on, if I’m driving somewhere local.
Obviously I wait until almost dusk to take DD2’s Little Dog out though.

Don’t mind Autumn, but not looking forward to Winter.

Working in a children’s nursery here it’s hard to keep cool I was exhausted yesterday but it’s my last summer there so hey ho!

AGAA4 Wed 13-Aug-25 11:14:22

I'm sorry for the dogs I see out walking in the highest temperatures of the day. Their poor paws! Hot pavements.

Flippinheck Wed 13-Aug-25 11:15:54

I live in NW England so we haven’t had so much of the really high heat. We had beautiful weather in Spring, sunny and around 20 to 23 degrees. Just perfect. Anything above that and I am very uncomfortable. Yesterday was far too hot for me and the same today so will hide indoors with a good book.
I am Summer’s version of the Grinch.

Enjoying it so much and making the most of it. Obviously don’t sit out in full sun but love the feel of the natural heat on my skin . Love the warm evenings too.

cornergran Wed 13-Aug-25 11:34:31

Much prefer it to damp, windy, dark days. It feels almost chilly here at the moment, cloud and a breeze. I’m feeling quite cheated smile.

I know your pain! I see so many idiots out in 26 degrees with panting dogs! I guess, after Covid and the subsequent rise in the amount of pets, there are bound to be lots of 'uneducated' pet owners. It's just wrong though! I want to give them a 'piece of my mind'!

Ziggy62 Wed 13-Aug-25 11:40:01

Loving it

Grandma70s Wed 13-Aug-25 11:49:02

I detest hot weather. In this sort of temperature I stay indoors sitting by the electric fan. Autumn is my favourite season, and I ‘m looking forward to winter, too, except that I’ll be even older then!

whywhywhy Wed 13-Aug-25 11:52:45

I stay indoors when it is really hot but then I think of the dark days of winter. Not a sun worshiper but I love it up to about 26 and then I am too HOT!

It really annoys me when people walk dogs after 8am and before 8pm. They are selfish beyond words and i just wish someone would make them wear a fur coat and walk around the hot pavement with bare feet. Arghghghghghghghghh!!!!!

On one hand when we get good weather, I want to hang on to it with both hands whilst muttering under my breath "don't go" but simultaneously hoping it won't get beyond about 28 my absolute limit. Anything over that I find draining now, I didn't always. I absolutely agree though about the interminable long dark days of winter they just go on for sooooo long, depressing as opposed to sunshine which lifts the spirits. There are days in Autumn that can be absolutely glorious with the changing colours etc. but somehow it's marred by the fact that the shortest day is soon to be upon us with those dark, dreary afternoons, roaring fires don't make up for any of that. Then there's bloody Christmas The festive season, it's not the two significant days, it's all the over the top commercial run up that now starts earlier and earlier, in fact anytime soon.

JenniferEccles Wed 13-Aug-25 12:21:12

Mainly light clouds here today in the south east.
Currently 24 deg outside according to my weather station.
So much better than 30.

I know we obviously need rain for our poor gardens but I must admit it has been lovely beings able to plan days without wondering if I should take a jacket and umbrella.

Although I much prefer cooler weather like today, I can understand why some folk who love the heat, point out that winter will soon be upon us!

The annual greed fest where we are brainwashed into some faux Dickensian stupor and exhorted to donate to people ,whilst simultaneously stuffing ourselves stupid.

TillyTrotter Wed 13-Aug-25 12:36:37

29 deg in the Midlands this afternoon. Cooler than yesterday’s 33 deg but much more humid which is the thing that floors me into inactivity.
Hard to sleep at night too.
It’s different on holiday abroad as the heat’s drier and there’s always a pool to dip into.
As others have said it won’t last long.

leeds22 Wed 13-Aug-25 12:41:23

I will be reading on my sun lounger this afternoon - in the shade. Still sticking to my vow not to moan about high temperatures - winter will be here soon enough. And agree with others' comments about bloody Christmas.

Himself struggles now because he is on chemotherapy. We used to love long hot sunny days. 💔

Sat out until 10.30 last night. I’ve had my fan on for last four weeks tbh.
In beautiful Ilkley today 😊
