What would be said if the Duchess of Sussex had released the same?

Magenta8 Sun 17-Aug-25 19:32:19

Catherine's family live in Bucklebury in rural Berkshire. I believe that shooting game for sport is quite common there. Locally, The Vine and Craven Hunt still functions legally.

She was quite possibly brought up with country sports before she met William.

I read that Meghan is anti-guns and she made Harry get rid of his rifles. So whatever her perceived faults, at least has this in her favour.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian so can't criticise.

They’re shooting birds for sport, Allira. It’s horrible. I can’t see what your eating choices have to do with that!

Parsley3 Sun 17-Aug-25 17:05:05

Me too.

Obviously Meghan would have been shot on sight for it, she's done similar things already. But nobody is saying Catherine copied Meghan, yet everything Meghan does is copying Catherine.

I don't care either way about the royal family, I don't particularly support the monarchy but I despise the way one woman is treated, compared to another woman constantly and put down for simply breathing.

Yes, that's how I feel.

I am a vegetarian but I do not feel entitled to the moral high ground as I eat dairy and eggs.

I believe William and Catherine both enjoy shooting birds so I think it is likely that the children will be encouraged to do so too.

There is a long tradition of the British royals killing animals for sport. Until fox hunting with dogs was banned, the then Prince Charles was a keen huntsman. Prince Phillip shot a tiger in India.

Shame on them.

Tradition isn't a good enough excuse. It's just wrong - a rich person's playtime - how anybody can get their kicks from it I'll never understand.

I hoped the Royal Family would be more progressive when Catherine and William married. I'm very disappointed that I was wrong.

Yes, nature is cruel but wildlife killing wildlife is natural. What isn't natural is humans killing wildlife for sport.

There is cruelty in nature , fact .

As not Catherine always enjoyed the outdoors

Allira Sun 17-Aug-25 15:22:22

Why is it newly discovered?
And enjoying the natural world does not mean hunting.

Cabowich Sun 17-Aug-25 15:18:20

I just hope the PoW's newly discovered love of nature extends to her not taking her young children to watch a hunt.

I find hunting a cruel and unnecessary activity and have not had any time for Catherine since I read that.

Apparently Meghan strongly disapproves of hunting (and discourages Harry from doing so) and so on this subject at least I much prefer Meghan.

“Nature is healing” - who knew? Monty Don tells us this every week on his gardening programme. People who are genuinely on struggle street aren't the ones who will be watching this twaddle. Its on a par with the Sussexes and their soft focus gushes

But they will watch Monty Don !

I've never watched Monty Don, don't know anyone who does. The keenest gardener I've ever known hated that sort of programme. Some people watch him but not sure you can confidently state who will watch him.

Oh, I do.

I like to watch and see what I should be doing 😁

Well as I said some people must watch him, I just tjoml the statement that people would watch him and not Catherine is unbalanced, some will watch her and not him, some (like me) won't watch either of them and some might watch both.

Allira Sun 17-Aug-25 15:05:59

Well, my father was a very keen gardener, my grandfather was a Head Gardener on a big estate. My Dad always watched Percy Thrower.

I admire the RF and think Katherine is perfect for the role but I dislike her speaking voice. It seems forced and the elecution is overly precise. I would like it if she were a little more relaxed.

Her name is Catherine.

If Meghan Markle had released a similar video I think she would have been at the centre of it in front of the camera.

There would been cries of "wokery" from GNs and others.

If Meghan Markle made a similar video , it would be to sell it for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ of personal profit.

Oh, wait...

theworriedwell Sun 17-Aug-25 14:53:10

Parsley3

I don't know who the message in this video is meant to be for earthmother but I can understand why you may find it offensive. I am just bemused as to why it has been made at all. There is no need for Catherine to take on the role of social media personality in addition to her royal duties.

She hasn't been able to do many royal duties due to her health so maybe she feels this fills that gap.

merlotgran Sun 17-Aug-25 14:38:23

True but Gransnet would be very boring if we stuck rigidly to the OPs and didn’t allow threads to wander.

Jaxjacky Sun 17-Aug-25 10:06:05

To answer the OP - her video seems innocuous enough, I don't really see the point of ‘what if Meghan…’ she hasn’t.

Allira Sun 17-Aug-25 10:04:41

despots - good choice of word!

AGAA4 Sun 17-Aug-25 10:03:57

Too many despots ruling countries now.
Our system isn't perfect but I know which I prefer.

Allira Sun 17-Aug-25 10:01:13

In a Constitutional Monarchy the public vote for the Government of their choice and the Monarch has very limited powers. There are checks and balances in every area, so no-one holds absolute power.
