I recently stumbled across this Keurig coffee maker that claims to brew a cup in under a minute:

into-the-definitive-single-serve-coffee-maker/

Has anyone here used it or something similar? Does it actually hold up long-term, or is there a better option out there? I’d rather hear real experiences before buying.

I use a filter with a filter paper, atop an enamel coffee pot, it's not fast, but it has no bitterness, and the grounds are easy to dispose of in the paper. I also heat my milk in the cup and froth it with a little hand held whizzer! I like the routine, in peace and quiet of the mornings.

I use a stainless steel, conical coffee filter - no paper lining required. Amazingly, it’s as quick as instant coffee. It’s designed for single cups but I often make a mug for husband and myself without adding more ground coffee. I can’t remember the make but Robert Dyas have one which looks similar on their website. It’s easy to clean - and creates no plastic waste.

We recently did a price check with our machines. We could get a 2 shot Americano from the bean to cup for about 20p a cup (we buy the bags of beans in bulk) but the Keurig costs about 60p a cup. The only reason we got the Keurig is that it does do pressed coffee rather than filter and the capsules hold 11g's of coffee rather than the 5g of UK capsules with the ability to do a decent cup of decaf. As you might be able to tell, we take coffee seriously in this house!
When we started our coffee journey, I thought it was ridiculous to have 'real' coffee so we put in a hot tap to make instant for me. My husband started making me real coffee for first thing in the morning and now I can't drink instant at all. I've tried all the recommended good stuff but the after taste is most unpleasant to me.

Whatever happened to coffee percolators?

Didn't brew great coffee, very noisy to use. But l remember the Russell Hobs brushed stainless steel onne with a square of red wood on the lid being considered to be very cool.

Yes, we have a Keurig and love it for a quick cup of coffee. We also have a bean to cup machine which takes longer but can do all the fancy stuff too.

My dd said that they used to have one but got rid of it because it was "full of bacteria". Her words

I was always a coffee drinker from the age of 10, black no sugar. Then I had to have chemo and went right off coffee. sad. 8 years later I've progressed to one cup per day, instant with lots of milk and a tiny bit of sugar. The coffee must be left in the milk to soak for 10 mins and the water has to be 5 minutes past the boil. Can any of you proper coffee drinkers suggest a really mild ground coffee with no bitterness to help me on the next step to the real stuff?

I think Lazy Sunday is quite smooth and rounded for a "next step" real coffee.
I think it's by Taylors.

Thank you, I shall look out for that one.

In our latest house, the fridge already installed, has a single cup Keurig maker. As I only drink tea, and DH only has one cup of coffee per day, this is perfect for us.

Use a bean to coffee machine for the 1 cup a week or for visitors.

Paper filter in cone for me, boiling water dripped through ground coffee. I still think it's the best, and anyway, I can't be doing with bulky electric machines (Kenwood mixer excepted, in it's place under-counter).

Dualit coffee percolator, fresh ground coffee, takes 3 - 4 minutes.

I have a cuisinart one - grinds the beans then makes the coffee. Longer than 1 minute but still quick. Bought mine on offer, absolute bargain

As annifrance Same here, we grind the beans ourselves.

Always a cafetiere. Never had a better cup from an expensive so called coffee maker and those nasty little.plastic dosettes.

Tuinoma Wed 20-Aug-25 16:00:01

The little Italian stove top thing here too

Rosie51 Wed 20-Aug-25 14:58:22

My son has the small one-cup one that he takes to holiday lets. He has the full size one for at home. Always uses the refillable pods with either coffee he's ground himself or pre-ground. Makes lovely coffee which is always lovely and hot.

Witzend Wed 20-Aug-25 14:50:24

If it’s just for one, I like the little Italian stovetop thing. For more than one it’s the cafetière.

I've used this model for several years & it's been excellent.

I love my Nespresso machine. It does single mugs very quickly and I recycle the pods.

kittylester Sat 16-Aug-25 12:49:49

Ours all use an aeropress for single portions.

It’s the only coffee maker I use.The coffee comes out hot and is ready as they advertise in one minute. You can use the coffee pods or use ground coffee in a special container than can be bought separately . As I am the only coffee drinker in the house it’s perfect to make a single mug.My machine is about three years old now and if it broke down I’d get another one straight away.
