RIP Terence.

Both Terrence Stamp and David Hemmings were very good looking in a slightly androgynous way. They had a fashionable 1960s look. Easy to confuse the two.

Whoops got Stamp and Hemmings confused, apologies, have spent all these years believing Stamp was in Blow Up.
Still was a long time ago when I saw the film.

Apparently, during the 60s, Terrence Stamp shared a house in Wimpole Street with Michael Caine before either of them was famous.

Babs03 - in ‘Blow Up’

I recall this lyric from Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks -
‘Terry meets Julie
Waterloo Station
Every Friday night’
Obviously referring to the darlings of the silver screen at the time, Terence Stamp and JulieChristie.
Saw him in Blow Up and Far From The Madding Crowd. All my friends thought he was really good looking, and he was, but not my cup of tea. However, fabulous actor.
RIP

David Hemmings - who replaced Terence Stamp

I loved "Terry meets Julie at Waterloo Station" So a homage to those two, well! well! Glad to find that out years later. Waterloo Sunset such a great 60s song from a great 60s group.

My mind also immediately went to "Waterloo Sunset" when I saw he had died. For some reason he came to mind a few days ago, but I have no idea why. He was rather lovely...

TerriBull Sun 17-Aug-25 18:11:44

Loved him most in Far From The Madding Crowd the definitive Troy. I really liked the poster from the film, him staring directly at the camera dark, dashing with the mesmerising eyes and Julie Christie beautiful in profile. Didn't the sixties throw up some great people? so sad to be losing another who defined that era.

RIP

Lovely actor. The last thing I saw him in was Priscilla. RIP

Georgesgran Sun 17-Aug-25 18:02:26

No - I was just reading about him a few days ago and how he shared a flat with Michael Caine. I think he was voted the most beautiful man on Earth at one point - could be wrong? Even older, he still looked elegant and distinguished. RIP

Very sad news, he was a beautiful man.

I admired Terence Stamp after seeing him as Troy in Far From The Madding Crowd and years later as Zod .
I agree with eazybee - I felt that he could have made more films .

GrannyGravy13 Sun 17-Aug-25 17:04:59

RIP 💐

As we age it’s inevitable that we will lose the stars and musicians of our generation.

eazybee Sun 17-Aug-25 17:02:30

I remember him best in The Collector, very sinister, and Far from The Madding Crowd.
Felt he never used his talent as much as he should, although his family said he has left a large body of work behind.

RIP Terence part of my youth

MayBee70 Sun 17-Aug-25 16:59:56

Oh no. Such beauty. And he aged beautifully, too.I loved the way he moved into more avant Garde films as he got older.
