RIP Terence Stamp, I studied Far from the Madding Crowd for my English " o" level then the film came out , it was sooo good and Troy was gorgeous. I got the " o" level .

There’s no doubt that he had the looks. RIP.

dotpocka Mon 18-Aug-25 23:24:41

he and micheal york were my actor crushes

theworriedwell Mon 18-Aug-25 20:30:35

Far from the madding crowd was my O level English book so the film did nothing for me. I liked him after that.

My favourite Terence Stamp film is Song for Marion.
(with Vanessa Redgrave)

Great film, don't miss it if it turns up on TV as part of a T Stamp tribute

Oh no that’s sad. 😢

I used to think he was gorgeous

So did I.

At the intermission in the cinema for Far from the madding crowd, my friend asked me what I wanted and I said, “A Terence Stamp on a stick, please”. He was just gorgeous.

Such a beautiful man with the most amazing eyes. This has made me quite sad. RIP Terence x

Obviously referring to the darlings of the silver screen at the time,

That song brings back such memories.

RIP Terence Stamp.

Oh was that referring to him? I didn’t know that

I didn't know that was referring to him either !
One of my favourite all-time songs as an "adopted" Londoner.
Meaning now enriched.
He was an elegant man and a good actor but as a heart-throb I couldn't see it.
RIP

There are many handsome men around, but Terence Stamp had that extra something - presence.

JamesandJon33 Mon 18-Aug-25 14:54:58

Sergeant Troy …..need say no more

mabon2 Mon 18-Aug-25 14:44:14

I saw him in rep. at The Playhouse in Liverpool in the late 1950s/early 60s.

A film in his later years as an adoring husband of a terminally ill wife “A Song For Marion”

Was just about to post this.

I absolutely loved him. First saw him in Far From The Madding Crowd as the very handsome Sergeant Troy.
I have watched this many times over the years and he was the most handsome man going.

RIP Terence.

I was reading about this this morning, it said that that film was a box office flop! I was really surprised, I loved the film. I also remember him well from the Butterfly Collector, such a beautiful man.

Terence Stamp rode at the stables I worked at as a teenager. He was lovely, not stuck up, happy to chat with us all.

Kate51 Mon 18-Aug-25 13:53:07

RIP Terence although to me he will always be Bernadette from Priscilla queen of the desert. So talented.

love0c Mon 18-Aug-25 12:25:02

Always be Troy to me!

Calendargirl Mon 18-Aug-25 10:48:37

He was gorgeous, wasn’t he? Still devastating as he aged.

Used to date Julie Christie and Jean Shrimpton, (at separate times, I assume). What handsome couples they would be.

Oh dear. All the best actors/actresses are slowly leaving us sad

windmill1 Mon 18-Aug-25 05:40:04

I was always getting him confused with David Hemmings - they both came to fame in the same era, Stamp in "Far From The Madding Crowd" and Hemmings in "The Charge Of The Light Brigade".

I was sad to hear of the death of Terence, we shared an ancestor and surname. He looked like the males in my family and I suspected we were related. DS traced family tree and sure enough there was the proof.
Last film I watched was Song for Marion.

REKA Mon 18-Aug-25 02:49:25

He was my first crush. Far From the Madding Crowd. Just a gorgeous man.

And he aged so well.

I think his last film was Last Night in Soho. 2021. Excellent film and despite him being in his 80s he still had charisma and style.

Thanks for the memories

nanna8 Mon 18-Aug-25 00:20:37

So sick of getting old and hearing of the death of once loved actors and singers!

^I recall this lyric from Waterloo Sunset by the Kinks^-
‘Terry meets Julie
Waterloo Station
Every Friday night’

I remember that too, Babs03

He was so talented and such a beautiful man.

RIP Terence Stamp

Oh No! He was so beautiful, with those lovely eyes. I think the first thing I saw him in was The Collector. I loved him in Priscilla, he reminded me very much of one of my female friends.
