Warning to Virgin email "legacy" users

I'm talking about us old timers who still use the old ntlworld, blueyonder and similar email accounts. They are discontinuing them but seem to not find it necessary to pre-warn the users! I went to check my emails on the website as my old "Classic" Outlook had died and found I would have to change to a 3rd party email address before I could get into the "My account/emails" page. Talking to Support, I was told I only had certain options (outlook, AOL, gmail and something I had never heard of) to be compatible with their new cloud based system and have it linked to my Virgin account.

I have opened a gmail account but haven't linked it yet as once that is done the ntlworld email account will disappear immediately, (along with all the old emails) and first I have to use the old address to let everyone and all the organisations who contact me know of the change. What a palaver! Especially so as I had to download the New Outlook to access my emails, which doesn't carry over the Contacts list from Classic.

A couple of my Contacts also use a Legacy email account and knew nothing about the changes until they heard from me. I can't understand why we haven't been informed. Support told me it was a matter of luck that my email account hadn't already been deleted.

I guess I had better change my details on here before I log out...

Erm, how do that? Change my email contact details, that is?

Aely I had the same problem but luckily I had an old Gmail account that was made up by the assistant when I bought a new phone years ago so I used that and it was accepted.

I had to change my password but I didn't lose any of my emails and everything was there when I eventually managed to get logged in.

I hope you manage to work things out - I didn't find it easy but got there in the end.

I'm getting there. As I headed off for the allotment I remembered yet another site where my details had to be changed. I also have to visit my bank on Tuesday (which is now in another town since the branch here closed) as I don't have telephone privileges and my house Insurance company is upgrading its system so can't accept changes at the moment. Otherwise, I think I have covered most of the more important bits.
Not very long ago I was seriously thinking of dumping Virgin, but decided I really didn't want the hassle of changing my email address! They have now made it so much easier to do, next time they manage to P... me off!
I shall now go forward with my plans to get my TV through other means (an aerial and streaming free TV perhaps, plus my ROKU and ask around about how good TOOB is for internet.
My broadband can take ages to connect with "poor signal quality" and they don't maintain their street switch boxes very well. I have been completely cut off for several days twice recently when the port failed. And they are charging me a small fortune!

My husband and I both have Blueyonder accounts and knew nothing about this. Nothing has happened to us yet, but we both have gmail accounts as well, so hopefully that will help. Thanks for the heads-up.

Try logging into "my account" on Virgin and you will find out all about it. The important thing to do is check through your blueyonder inbox and see if there is anything there you really need to keep. Forward it to your gmail to make absolutely sure you won't lose it, especially if you use Outlook to get your emails. If they are on the old, Classic Outlook, which isn't Cloud based it should be OK. If you are using anything which doesn't physically download messages such as New Outlook I think they could disappear as once your Virgin account is linked to your gmail address, Virgin have told me all "legacy" emails will be deleted.

I have spent over a week now, contacting organisations etc. to update my email. Some won't change contact details without a confirmation from the old email address. No good if it has already been expunged!
