You seem to have very few friends or is this what you want?Where in the UK are you?I would be more than happy to meet up.For a number of years we had a great social circle.Eleven of us met up weekly but then the need to be near children arose. The question is Would we have been better sticking together and helping each other?

Thanks everyone for welcoming me .
I’m in Fethiye on the coast.
Most people who’ve visited Turkey have been to Olu Deniz beach and lagoon which appears on all the pictures and adverts promoting Turkey.
Lovely place to live .

Good morning, Michael12 and all of you!

Sorry, this is a long one. I find when I'm overtly tired and exhausted, when it's like I'm in another dimension, confused and muddled, eyes are open but brain is asleep, I type a lot more than normal!

I had a terrible time at work last night. A co-worker was in such a foul mood that she actually scared me. In the 7 or so months she's been here, she's never been known for being a nice person at the best of times, and can be exceptionally moody. She's only in her mid-20s, so I dread to think what she'll be like if menopause ever hits her! Not just the occasional foul mood, such as a rough, heavy period, but every time she's on duty, and she's like it off duty too. I've seen her in shops, stomping around and being awkward with staff and customers.

The atmosphere in the staff areas was electric again, with her erratic moods, and I actually felt quite frightened. This 6'2, slim but well-built 60-year-old woman is scared of a skinny 4'10 woman in her 20s! I've spoken to management about her, quietly and respectfully, without criticism, etc., just explaining the situation, but there's never been anything done! And it's not just me, there are other staff, male and female, who are scared of her too! We don't know what is going on in her head; maybe she has some type of mental health issues, but we really don't need her attitude and a shoulder-shrugging management team!

Thankfully, I'm doing my last shift in the final week of December and moving 92 miles away to Whitby in January, so I won't have to see her ever again!

SO this morning, just after 7, I was in the Co-Op, looking and feeling like an ancient Medieval troll that had just been sacrificed to the thunder gods, crumpled clothes and hair not right, bags under my puffy watery eyes were more like tree trunks, trying to find something for tonight's dinner, nothing jumped out at me, just boring tasteless pap, then as I plonked 2 cartons of Alpro milk and 2 of Alpro Nutty Almond milk in the basket I passed the cheese section, and there, sat on the shelf behind the slidey door was a 550g pack of Cathedral City Cheese, Mature!

I just HAD to have it, £6.35 well spent! It's THE greatest cheese of all time as far as I'm concerned, so I grabbed a tin of spaghetti and a tin of peas and will cut a couple of slices off and cube them, then put them on the spaghetti/peas when the microwave has finished nuking them and cover it in mayo, washed down with a can of Vimto Energy, while reading The Bigfoot Book: The Encyclopedia of Sasquatch, Yeti and Cryptid Primates (The Real Unexplained! Collection) by Nick Redfern!

I'm absolutely fascinated by our Bigfoot friends, and apparently, they don't like yellow light bulbs. I don't know if it's just a general dislike, individually or as a whole, or if it's to do with their eyes that can't process it properly. YouTube's John Allen/MrBallen and Josh Nanocchio/What Lurks Beneath do some brilliant real-life story videos of them!

Thank you to all of you for your bravery in letting me waffle on!

It's 10:47 am and I'm off to bed with a glass of Glenfiddich and a well-needed kip!

Just enough rain to make the paths look damp but not enough as yet to make a difference to the garden which is various tasteful shades of beige. I have an empty day which I can fill with necessary admin, filing etc but may lack to energy to do even that.

Glad that Marydoll’s appointment was at least some help and hope a restful day will help.

Ziplok Wed 27-Aug-25 09:37:11

Good morning all,

Welcome nannyangel.

Sunny here at the moment but we are forecast thundery showers this afternoon.

baubles Wed 27-Aug-25 09:33:31

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, I think we will have rain later.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and good wishes yesterday. As can imagine it was incredibly sad and difficult. The crematorium was jam packed and people were even having to stand outside. Two large families and many, many, friends. If only he could have felt the outpouring of love.

Today will be spent quietly at home.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling Blossoming.

MD do take good care yourself.

Thinking of FGT on her birthday and a warm welcome to this very supportive thread to Nannyngel.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

aggie Wed 27-Aug-25 09:17:01

Good Morning from a very wet Co Armagh, I have all the lights on , it is so dark I am afraid of tripping !
Fifth day being home alone , neighbours are in France , seems it’s raining there too , it will fill the waterbutts
I put covers over the salad leave plants , but haven’t watered the tomatoes in the greenhouse yet , the rain was coming in sheets so I didn’t fancy standing filling the watering can
Enjoy as much of the day as you can xx

BlueSapphire Wed 27-Aug-25 09:02:28

Good morning everyone from a cloudy Northampton, fine at the moment but rain is forecast later.

A pleasant afternoon at the cinema yesterday watching 'Emma', a version I hadn't seen before, with Gwyneth Paltrow in the starring role. She was a bit too sugary sweet for me - I think I prefer the latest BBC adaptation, can't remember who stars, but Emma is played as quite sharp and acidic!

Another visit to the cinema this afternoon to see 'Life of Chuck', looks interesting going by the trailers.
Have also booked for a friend and I to see the new (and final) Downton Abbey film next month.

Wishing all a pleasant day, but always in my thoughts are those who are suffering at this time.

Blossoming Wed 27-Aug-25 08:51:40

Good morning all from cloudy Lancashire. I don’t have much to report as I am on my third day of bed rest. I really need to get up and get moving. I feel as though I’m losing all the progress I’ve made since being discharged from hospital and my muscles are horribly weak.
Sending positive vibes to you all, especially those dealing with illness themselves. 🌹

Marydoll Wed 27-Aug-25 08:50:53

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 12°C

Oh GM, I can empathise with you. Sleep often eludes me. Last night, I woke up poor DH , when I shouted out in pain, that was me awake for most of the night.

My appointment yesterday went better than anticipated.
I had a thorough MOT and for the first time in years, my BP has come down. It is high, but not the stroke inducing level it can reach.
The nurse was astounded at my 22kg weight loss since my last visit and queried why there was nothing noted on my records.
How could I say that my GP was not in the least bit interested?

However, the GP, who had examined me last week, after my episode, was apparently concerned and had requested a raft of blood tests to be done yesterday.
I explained that I had already had numerous ones done over the last few weeks, why more?
Everyone has asked for specialised ones, but no-one has asked for the necessary ones to check your kidneys, liver, heart etc. Those bloods are overdue, due to your multiple conditions and medications, you take, she said.
Unfortunately the blood tests to pinpoint the actual cause of my pernicious anaemia and determine my treatment, are still not back, apparently this test takes weeks, therefore no treatment for now.😔

She also confirmed that my cardiology referral has been made. I'm relieved, because I am experiencing odd sensations in my heart and afraid to use my GTN spray after what happened last week.
Unfortunately the respiratory referral, made a year ago has disappeared into the ether. The cardiologist, wrote to my GP in December 2023, recommending that I be re-referred back to the clinic. He did nothing and it was only after I made a fuss at my COPD* review in June of last year, that one of the other GPS listened.
That GP is going to chase up that referral.
Because a cardiac referral has been made, nothing more can be done for my discomfort.
However, my spirits were lifted by the fact that the GP from last week and the practice nurse were extremely proactive.
All I desired was for someone to help me.

DH was very firm about me going straight home after my appointment, he won't allow me to go anywhere on my own at the moment.
Usually, I would visit the nearby retail park (TKMaxx 😉) after
GP surgery visits, but DH was having none of it. He is such a spoilsport! 😉
However, I managed to persuade him to drive me to Home Bargains, on the pretext of buying a Spiderman toothbrush for Babydoll and saying that from now on, I was no longer be able to pick up the Guinness export, he enjoys. The bag would be too heavy.😉
He caved in and off we went, only to find the store had a power cut and was closed. 😭
To make matters worse, TKM was in my sight line, but I didn't dare ask.
If I am being honest,, I had neither the desire, nor ability to trail round my usual haunts, I was exhausted, so home we went, where I promptly fell asleep!

Susan, a disappointment for you, but a triumph that you went to your class.
Dear Blossoming, what a rotten time you are having,
Baubles, I kept thinking of you yesterday, I prayed that you and your family would find the strength to get through the funeral.
Finally, Grammaretto, I hope you had a successful visit to the Jubilee.

Today, DH will, rather reluctantly, take me to Sainsbury's, not his beloved Morrisons. which has increasingly empty shelves.
I have dress to take back, which makes me look ten months pregnant and DD is looking for jackfruit. How can he refuse a request from his beloved daughter? 🤣
Home then to do nothing, for I still feel out of sorts.

Best wishes to all and my prayers for all who are struggling, especialyy the FGTs

P.S

This has taken me an hour, it was full of garbled nonsense, I'm still not fully compos mentis!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 27-Aug-25 08:50:49

DH has excelled himself this morning not

I had stripped the bed early, put it in the washing machine (bedding not bed) and retreated into our bedroom to remake it, browse iPad and catch up on emails.

I heard the builders arrive and begin (I thought) to take the ceiling down in one of the bathrooms, so I just carried on.

Well I just tried to get downstairs only to find I had been sealed in, DH hadn’t told the builders I was up there. They had tapped up the door and covered it with protective industrial polythene and corion.

I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry or divorce him…

The builders were so apologetic and finally let me out, this is only day two…

hollysteers Wed 27-Aug-25 08:48:29

Any news of Taichinan? I don’t think I have seen any postings recently.

Gingster Wed 27-Aug-25 08:46:24

Good morning all and welcome to Nannyangel. Tell us all about yourself and life in Turkey. 👋.

Yesterday I popped into town, it was so busy after the Bank Holiday weekend. Waited at least 20 minutes at the surgery just to ask for more eye drops. I hope they’re in today as we’re going to our seaside cottage tomorrow.

Dh isn’t too good at the moment and his bp has gone up since the doc reduced one of his meds. She did this because his leg and foot were swollen and it’s a common side effect.
I hope he’s ok while we’re away. 🙏.

Today I’ll shop and get stuff ready to take tomorrow. I must remember to take all the essentials . A reminder list will be useful.🤯.

GG I hope your asthma eases a bit. Difficult with dust swirling around.
FGT 💐.

Take care all. There seem to be a lot of ailments on here at the moment. I wish you all well.🌼

hollysteers Wed 27-Aug-25 08:38:55

Good morning from a now dull northwest coast. I haven’t heard from the garage after dropping it off for repairs to get it through its MOT. I’ll ring soon to see what’s happening. I’m not missing it as the moment as I have an upset stomach to go with my strained back. Not sure why my stomach is upset unless it’s the fact I have been eating too much fruit. I was hoping I wouldn’t have these bad stomach days after my hiatus hernia op’ last October, but it might be nothing to do with that. Another quiet day beckons.

Welcome Nannyangel and thoughts to FGT💐

Grammaretto Wed 27-Aug-25 08:38:00

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Feels warm.

I am very sleepy. Like yours gMattie my sleep pattern isn't acceptable.
Trouble is I will nap later and so it goes.

Yesterday's hospital trip went OK. I was thanked for making the effort to travel so far by bus and train!
I had an Xray which looked fine so the pain has been caused by a flare-up of inflamed tendons in the buttock region. Fewer long walks, more gentle exercises was prescribed.

Before the train I saw the Andy Goldsworthy exhibition at the RSA. It's terrific. I must return.

Welcome Nannyangel to the GM thread. We never tire of hearing what the DGC are up to!

Thinking of the FGTs and hope that Blossoming and Marydoll have better days.

Wishing you all some joy today.

EkwaNimitee Wed 27-Aug-25 08:33:46

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny, warm Carlisle where we have had a welcome shower overnight.

Yesterday I had a pleasant train ride over to Newcastle to see my physio, basically all is well, just keep up the exercises.
I was, as usual, entertained by conversation with the taxi drivers, one of whom spoke almost incomprehensible Geordie!
The other was disappointed by United's loss to Liverpool the previous night and cross about their striker being on strike. Imagine being paid £120K a week and wanting more...
I hadn't taken my pills for the train ride, deliberately so as I wanted to see how my ears would cope on the improved trains. They didn't, not on the faster one coming back. I had a buzzy, dizzy head for hours and pressure in the ears and my tinnitus is whistling at full volume. Still at it this morning. They, the ears, are getting worse as I get older.

Ashcombe It can be tricky getting luggage on and off some trains. When I had my prolapse and was forbidden heavy lifting, my doc actually told me to stand there looking hesitant and someone behind would offer. They do! I have found that having white hair is a bonus, people assume there's stuff you can't do and offer to do it for you. I never refuse even when I'm perfectly capable, I don't want to discourage folk from offering when the next person they encounter might really need a hand.

Today, housework catch up day and the ironing. Hopefully, a walk after lunch.

mum2three good luck with that cactus deterrent. I once found a slug crawling over a prickly cactus in a former greenhouse so am cynical about any slug deterrent.

And welcome to you NannyAngel...hope to hear more from you.

harrigran Wed 27-Aug-25 08:32:31

Good morning from a sunny NE.
It was a very noisy day yesterday, heavy machinery scraping the surface off the road.
GDs were in London yesterday to see Hadestown, youngest GD loves musicals and is always in school productions. Her sister took her to London as a birthday treat, she will be 16 next week.
Had a message from sister in Germany, she has had another accident. She was knocked over by a cyclist on a pedestrian crossing, she got good first aid because the cyclist was a doctor. She was taken to hospital, x-ray and scan, face stitched. She is badly bruised and told that her broken neck from last December will never properly mend. They wanted to admit her for observation but she discharged herself, not sensible as she lives alone in a second floor flat.
My DD will be concerned as she is NOK and she is on holiday in the Champagne region for SIL's 60th birthday.
Sister and BIL will visit today and I will get my shopping.
Thinking of all sad and poorly people.

cornergran Wed 27-Aug-25 08:31:01

Did I see it’s fgt’s birthday? Wishing you the best day possible.

Welcome nannyangel.

dustyangel Wed 27-Aug-25 08:22:15

Good morning everyone from a clear Algarve. The temperature is 19° at the moment but expected to reach the high twenties later. Much pleasanter than when it creeps up to the thirty degree mark and beyond.

I popped in today to say welcome to Nannyangel.

I do read everyone’s news most days smile , though not necessarily in the morning.

GrannyIvy Wed 27-Aug-25 08:20:34

Welcome NannyAngel where about in Turkey are you?

kittylester Wed 27-Aug-25 08:04:49

Good morning all from a dull North Leicestershire.

Early start for us as our cleaner is due at 9 and DH has the gym at 9.

I have scans and an eye jab at lunchtime.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Liberty Wed 27-Aug-25 08:02:59

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk. I think this side of the country is now getting the lovely hot weather we enjoyed at DD1’s new house about 30 mins west of Bristol.

It was an early celebration for DGD2’s 18th birthday next week, the day before the start of the new school year. It was really lovely to spend a few days with our children and grandchildren and be very well looked after by all. There is something so touching about great hunks of teenage boys ring so gentle and considerate of we oldies….

I have no plans for today other than the usual household tasks but we shall enjoy some time in the garden befor the cooler weather later this week.

Thinking of those who have sadness and distress to cope with and hope the rest of us can enjoy the positives we have in our lives today.

Greyduster Wed 27-Aug-25 08:02:28

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The sun is shining in South Yorkshire at the moment, but we are expecting thunderstorms later this afternoon. I spent most of yesterday afternoon on my knees weeding the patio and the paving around the conservatory. When I’d finished I could hardly move but it was satisfying to see it looking clean and tidy. Why do all the weeds seem to flourish when plants I have watered diligently throughout this summer have perished. I also cleared a lot of dead stuff off my rockery wall. At least I could do that standing up! I went for a walk in the lanes after tea. Sloes should be ripe enough to pick by the weekend so I must buy some gin and some sugar! I found some ripe hazelnuts. They were small but very sweet. Writers group this afternoon.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Georgesgran Wed 27-Aug-25 08:02:03

Good Morning from a bright, sunny Durham. Should it rain, it’s forecast for around 4/5pm. The garden is parched.
Yesterday’s foot and leg massage was brutal - but I have high hopes for an improvement.
I’m meeting a friend for coffee/lunch today, then going to collect DD2’s Little Dog and keep him here for a few days. It’s DD2’s birthday tomorrow, so I’ll take her card with me.
I hope Marydoll had a more positive appointment than she anticipated.

Best wishes to all. X
