What sort of people do you avoid?

I saw this thread on Twitter and it got me thinking. I suppose that I tend to avoid loud people. That's just an instinctive reaction. I'm sure there are other more subtle reasons though.

Anyone who harms or intends to harm a child or young person.

Bullies and negative people. They drain my brain!

Ilovecheese Sat 30-Aug-25 14:54:03

People who:
"protect statues"
Daub red crosses on public streets and buildings

Isthepopecatholic Sat 30-Aug-25 14:48:56

People who talk about their religion
Tories
Little Englanders
Racists

Squiffy Sat 30-Aug-25 14:47:03

People who like to ‘call a spade a spade’, until they’re called a spade!

Oldnproud Sat 30-Aug-25 14:35:31

People who think that anyone whose outlook on life is different from theirs must be 'a bit odd'.

Dee1012 Sat 30-Aug-25 14:21:11

Anyone who is loud.

People who say that they say what they think when really they are confusing honesty with rudeness.

Mean people.

Freeloaders
People with dogs on extendable leads
Anyone hanging around town with a clipboard…….instinct tells me they’re selling something.
People who start talking before someone else in the conversation has finished speaking - a relative does this and it drives me nuts…….so bloody rude!
Anyone with clique type tendencies………”do you wanna be in my gang, my gang, my gang” and “I’m in with the in crowd” both spring to mind……and I have been known to walk away humming both songs too.

People who insist on showing you photos of their pets and grandchildren.

It’s endless now it’s all on the phone.

They don’t seem to be interested in the pictures of my allotment 😬

😂 in one Lathyrus3!

Try to avoid arrogant people. Has anyone else noticed that me me me types are usually only children. Sorry if I've offended any only children GN's

Well a huge generalisation and yes quite offensive I ve never been a me me me person in fact I m told off for always never putting myself first, so yes, I m offended by your statement and as you hate arrogance I find it quite arrogant to make such a harsh assumption

Gingster Sat 30-Aug-25 14:09:14

Usually older men who talk at you and think you want to hear all about them and their achievements, work and how they spend their days.🥱

People who are judgemental and feel that they know what is right for you and how you should live your life. My view is get your own life in order first before judging mine.

butterandjam Sat 30-Aug-25 13:56:37

Evangelicals who just can't believe I really don't care what they believe.

Men when out at night, and pretty soon it won’t need to be night when it becomes dark.

Why?
They’re not all muggers and rapists.

Of course they aren’t Rosie and am not talking about in general.
But if I am walking down a poorly lit street in the dark, there is no one else around, and there is a man walking behind me I will cross the road and quicken my pace.
Is not something I want to do and is probably not necessary but is a gut instinct that I have had since a young woman.
Might be alone with this but would be surprised if I am.

Of course you’re not alone in this. Any woman feels slightly nervous on her own in the dark and I defy anyone to say they don’t.

Fakes. The kind of people who slag others off. You know they will do it to you behind your back.

BlueBelle Sat 30-Aug-25 13:13:27

Racists
….and just recently it means avoiding people I never knew were racist they are really coming out the woodwork now

Skydancer Sat 30-Aug-25 13:11:53

People with unruly dogs.
People who continually talk about their perfect families.
Moaners.
Scruffy people.
Show-offs.

dragonfly46 Sat 30-Aug-25 13:09:27

I don't avoid anyone although I do keep quiet when in the company of some.

Visgir1 Sat 30-Aug-25 13:05:28

Having worked all my career in the NHS patient facing. You learn to cope and handle all types. It becomes almost instinctive whom you would like, and those who you can't be bothered with.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 30-Aug-25 13:00:50

I try to find the good in most. Some people are more challenging it’s true so I then tend to engage less, make less eye contact and where possible let others interact with the ‘tricky’ one(s).

westendgirl Sat 30-Aug-25 12:55:07

I agree with you Lizzie Drip. I cannot stand self opinionated bigots, know it alls who think they are always right and who never have time for anyone else.

keepingquiet Sat 30-Aug-25 12:50:54

People who just want to point out the failings of others- judgemental people who love to slag others off.

Shallow people who just put on fakery and think you can't see through it.

Idiots who don't know what they are talking about.

Racists.
