Another light hearted thread to follow on from cushions.

Our coffee table is a huge old thing with two massive drawers, one is full of board games and photo albums the other is……..take a guess!

No prizes for the winner but a big shout out!

I would love to see or hear about your coffee tables.

Chapeau

This is my wonderful coffee table. It was a gift from an Afghan family who I became (and still am) close to when I lived in Kabul. I spent a lot of time with the ladies of the family who were all carpet weavers using natural dyes and traditional hand weaving methods. The table is actually an antique door from a traditional Afghan house. When I was leaving Afghanistan the family invited me and my friends to dinner and presented me with this beautiful table. The 'ladies' had all woven a small piece of carpet to fit into some of the square recesses on the top of the table so I wouldn't forget them. As if!
My coffee table has since travelled about a bit having graced my homes in India, Syria, Myanmar, and Mauritania. It now sits in my tiny living room in Scotland. I love it.

Absolutely beautiful and priceless.

A true treasure.

I don’t have a coffee table …why should I ?

Excuse me? Where do you put all the books, papers, mugs, pens, post, seed packets, reading glasses, diary, the stuff you're dosing the dogs ears with , your phone, the other phone, and the stuff you took out of your pockets while trying to find your keys?

Yes - I have two, back to back. When we bought this house, it was a new build but in a cottage style so we went for Old Charm.
My Dad liked it and asked me to get the same for him. I warned him about the price and he just said ‘it’s ok, you’ll get it when I’ve gone’ which I did - hence both in my lounge.

GrannyIvy Wed 03-Sept-25 18:52:29

My coffee tables (2) in the lounge are distressed walnut and had them years and the GC have certainly distressed them further!! I don’t keep much on the top of mine as when the GC arrive they like to play a board game on it. I have recently declutterred all the magazines on the shelf under the big one as well!

Ours has nothing on it as I have just removed my birthday cards and am about to dust it!
We bought it with the money DH was given for 25 year’s service with the local education authority. Therefore it must be about 35 years old.

Ooops! A photo may help.

Oo, love it!

Mine is a retired 1960's circular G-plan dining table with the legs cut down to coffee-table height. I stained the top and leaves red. It also has two concealed leaves which expand it to make a big oval table when I need extra space for jigsaws, games, more cakes, making a mess etc.

Underneath there's enough space for a collection of pouffe/cushions to accommodate grandchildren. It's also the dog's bomb shelter for thunderstorms and November 5th.

Here's mine which is currently being used as a stand for my wedding anniversary flowers from DH on Monday. As I also omitted to put my cushions on the other thread I've included them in this pic too 😁

Jaxjacky Wed 03-Sept-25 14:44:45

This is ours, not really used as a coffee table, I need to get some flowers for it, hints haven’t worked! The piece of glasswork has a tea light behind it.

merlotgran Wed 03-Sept-25 14:30:41

Pic didn’t upload.

My sitting room is small but cosy so I try not to clutter up the coffee table too much but as I’m always browsing through garden and cook books it doesn’t always work.

No need to report really as the USA is a long way to go for a sandwich, however good it is😉

I would have to dust our coffee table first!

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 03-Sept-25 11:36:35

OH calls this the log! It has 12 small drawers on the far side and is also a chest.

Finger slipped 🙄
Bought a massive storage stool from a charity shop for £15 - John Lewis material from eBay to match our new sofa when that comes.

Witzend Wed 03-Sept-25 11:21:25

We don’t have a central one any more, just side tables. This was bought by my father sometime during WW2 when his RN ship stopped in India or Burma. After the DPs died nobody else wanted it.
The nut-shaped thing is a nutcracker, but not a very good one!
I don’t know why the carpet has come out grey - it’s actually a lightish green.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 03-Sept-25 10:47:49

I note that while I have “wooden effect” floors in my hall, kitchen and snug, I still have carpet in my lounge.
Very unfashionable these days and hard to keep clean.
Too late to change now though.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 03-Sept-25 10:45:22

Clear on top but cluttered underneath.

ViceVersa Wed 03-Sept-25 10:34:37

Mine has nothing on it whatsoever - the joys of living with a Labrador who has a tail like a rope which would swipe anything off it! grin
