Good Morning from the West midlands, or is it!
I've trodden in dog's poo. DH is being an arse & I looked in the mirror and I saw Wee Willy Cranky looking back at me!
Yet the sun is warm & my mini sweetcorn is magnificent. 😊

JamesandJon33 Fri 05-Sept-25 10:25:00

Bore da everyone from a dry but grey Carmarthenshire. A definite chill in the air this morning. DH has very swollen knees from his fall and is finding walking painful. But he assures me he is better than yesterday….we shall see.
Other than that it’s going to be a quiet day.

Marydoll Fri 05-Sept-25 09:22:39

Marydoll I am horrified you received two prescriptions for a controlled drug.So many protocols not followed to allow that to happen😳.

Susan, I had to explain to the receptionist, who was new, that she had to take one back and record that I only received one.
I was hprrified.

Good Morning from a calm, mild Durham. No rain yesterday, but the chance of a shower today.
Boiler service and other bits completed yesterday, the bill will come later.
It’s my nail appointment with DD2 this afternoon. Not a day too soon, as I had a mishap in the garage and snapped and tore a nail, which I’ve had to clip and cover.
I’m picking up DGS1 from school afterwards and he’s coming for a sleepover. I’ll let him chose what he wants to eat - he has favourites.

Reading between the lines, MD I get the impression things are looking up for you and about time too!

Best wishes to all. X

Grammaretto Fri 05-Sept-25 08:51:38

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. A fine start.

Yesterday I went to yoga, unpacked my kiln and packed the pots going north for a gallery this evening. A pal dropped by for a cuppa and another friend came to assemble her DDs glass for this weekend's open studios. She stayed for dinner.

Meanwhile my Helper mowed the grass, and finished pricing the stall she has set up. She made a poster online which I got printed and also shared with all my nearby contacts. She worked hard.
The bric a brac stall is receiving a lot of attention!

Work for me today and then setting up my pottery for the weekend.

Ofcourse you were weepy yesterday gMattie flowers
As for MD. You have such will and determination. I'd have collapsed long ago if I had to put up with the treatment you've suffered.

Stilllearning what a journey! I am glad you made it home.

Glad you had a good time in Copenhagen brook. My DB lives there and loves it and so do I.
I mistakenly wished Baubles a good time there rather than Italy where I think she actually is. 😀

I lose track. I hope Blossoming is OK.
Hoping everyone has some joy today.

GrannySomerset Fri 05-Sept-25 08:44:06

A beautiful morning but with a definite hint of autumn in the air; oldies’ coffee morning, which has been held outside for weeks, but not for very much longer I suspect. No other plans for the day but it will unfold as it chooses. Must read the many contributions ahead of me.

GrannyIvy Fri 05-Sept-25 08:38:01

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where the weather is looking to be sun all day and 21 degrees. I plan to be out on the garden most of the day. A pedicure is booked early afternoon and then pick up from school later where hopefully I will catch up with a dear friend whose little grandson has just started at the same school as mine.

Wishing a good day to all

Jaxjacky Fri 05-Sept-25 08:36:44

Morning from sunny S Hants, the rain yesterday eased to sun, but early evening a clap of thunder and a brief torrent.
Good luck gMattie.
Better news on your thumb llfl.
I’m hoping my car, in for a service and MOT, will be ready later, I have a shingles jab late afternoon.
Pub tonight.
Good Blossoming has been in contact, albeit not good news.

Thanks harrigran I couldn’t access any if my recorded programmes I live in the NE too I’ll try that. We had a lovely evening out at the customs house in South Shields Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Sore with sitting this morning though. Yes it’s getting more chilly on a morning now. Day off work and pottering dropping my days down before retirement bliss!

Marydoll I am horrified you received two prescriptions for a controlled drug.So many protocols not followed to allow that to happen😳enjoy your time with Dollie😊

Yesterday as predicted I slept most of the afternoon and then slept nine of hours last night.Thank you Mary, I am feeling better today.

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk and DH and I think we’ll have a late morning walk on the beach and lunch at,you know where, Gingster.

My dentist was running late yesterday but the wait was worthwhile as,not only does she do a very thorough scale and polish but also a check of the health of my mouth, feels for any lumps in my neck and checks the flexibility of my jaw. All fine and another appt in 6 month’s time.

Given how quickly time flies these days, that will be round before I know it. Hope today is a good one for all.

hollysteers Fri 05-Sept-25 08:04:23

Good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
After my hairdresser’s appointment yesterday, I returned a waistcoat which was too tight to M&S and did a little food shopping. My hairdresser is nearly twenty miles away so I practise my songs in the car driving along. No more grey roots and a trim. Watched Waterloo Bridge 1940 in the evening and enjoyed it.

I can hear the sound of water in the bathroom somewhere and not from the cistern., also extra wetness, so must get in touch with a plumber.
Off soon to the first art session for the autumn.
Sorry you were upset yesterday grandmattie, life’s problems can mount up💐
Thoughts to all for today🌺

Marydoll Fri 05-Sept-25 08:04:09

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is 12°C.

GM, what a lovely thought from your neighbour.

I didn't post yesterday, we had Babydoll and I was overwhelmed by the events of the previous day.
The post would no longer have been a novella, but a novel and indulgent of me to offload my many woes on others.😉

A brief summary :

* The plumber was here for nine hours
* Both bathrooms were out of use
* The water was off
* I visited the GP surgery three times (a twenty minute journey each way.)
* Instead of nine prescriptions, I received one!
* Later, instead of one prescription for a controlled drug, I received two. A serious error, as Susan will confirm.
* I burst into tears in the surgery.
* The road around the surgery were so gridlocked (temp traffic lights at a major junction), I was forced to drive into the next town past TKMaxx 😭 and double back through the back roads, past one of the hospitals, I am familiar with. I did think of abandoning my car, throwing myself at their mercy and begging for a bed.😉
* Performing my bowel screening test was impossible. (No water, no usable facilities and a strange man in the house.
* In the middle of the bedlam, the P.P phoned to tell me that he was having to go back into hospital yesterday and was having major surgery, due to complications from his surgery a few weeks ago. 😱
The poor man has been in horrific pain.

The positives

* I now have all the missing prescriptions
* I have three new treatments
* I suspect that the oral medicine consultant's letter made it clear that there had been a failure in my treatment, for all of a sudden the surgery are interacting with me.
Also, my GP of thirty years was standing behind me yesterday and pretended he didn't see me, that's the second time in two weeks! Something isn't right.
* All of the receptionists, I encountered treated me with kindness and compassion and excelled themselves in trying to remedy the prescription fiasco.
* When I burst into tears and said it was all too much, one of the receptionists asked if the unprofessional GP was the one, who suggested buying Bonjela. When I confirmed it, the receptionists exchanged glances and one handed me a complaints form.
Apparently, there has never before been so many complaints about a GP ( in fact, one who is not not a trainee, but a new partner.)
* Two leaks were found by the plumber and some jobs on our to do list were also done, at very reasonable cost.
I have never met such a tidy workman. I caught him washing the bathroom floor.
When I complimented DD on her choice of plumber, she burst out laughing. He is my neighbour!
She lives in a large village and all the elecricians, plumbers etc, help each other out. I seem to have taught half of them.

Yesterday, it was back to the surgery for one more missing script. I have now been admitted to the inner of circle of the local worthies in the pharmacy. It has taken me over forty years to be accepted as a local, but I think I have made it!🤣
Later, when Babydoll was napping, I went to the pharmacy in torrential rain, driving on badly flooded roads. While stuck in traffic, my low fuel warning light came on, there was no petrol station nearby.😭
I haven't been driving for weeks , therefore never noticed, This is the first time in forty eight years of driving, this has happened. I'm usually so careful.

Today DH is accompanying me to Silverburn, a place he loathes, but I cannot manage on my own at the moment and I have a White Stuff parcel to collect 😉

We are doing the school run and Dollie is staying overnight and a chippy has been requested, suits me, no cooking!!

Susan, I hope you are being to improve.

Blossming sent me a one line email, saying all is not well. I am very concerned.

I will come back later and read. DIL is dropping Dollie's overnight bag and I am still in bed!!

Have a good day folks and thanks for the messages and good wishes.

EkwaNimitee Fri 05-Sept-25 07:49:36

Good morning Mick and everyone from a Carlisle of cloud and blue sky. Like yesterday it seems, when we were lucky enough to have the dark clouds pass over...had enough rain for now, thank you!

I went out in the garden in the afternoon and installed a raised bed, quite hard work especially the lugging of sacks.
I have been in despair over my veg border which has been increasingly ravaged by slugs and snails, monster ones! The lettuces plants put in a week ago were immediately under attack and were rapidly disappearing. Yesterday I tried an old remedy I'd been dubious about...the beer trap. This morning I have been out to check it, expecting to find nothing. However, I was part delighted, part horrified to find it full of at least a dozen large slugs! Horrified because while I'm innocently asleep, all these are rampaging about my garden. All worth the sacrifice of a bottle of good lager, which was well out of date anyway.
I'm going to try another procedure also...out after dusk with a torch, tongs and a bucket of salt water. I think the slugs and snails find my plot a veritable garden of Eden, most plots around are simply lawns.

Soon, I'm off to town. I haven't heard from the pharmacy about my urgent prescription so I'm going to prod. I've only one day left of my pills and it's the weekend tomorrow. I shall no doubt have a browse through M&S, new stock is in and I have already spotted a likely new sweater addition for my collection. I don't actually need it of course. Perversely, I am at this moment wearing an old fraying one I can't bring myself to get rid of.

This afternoon will be admin and reading and doing, maybe, the odd little useful job.

Have the best possible day all of you.

grandMattie Fri 05-Sept-25 07:49:36

madeleine, my lovely pc man still lives in Kent, from where I moved a couple of years ago. He works remotely and my pc behaved impeccably for him - perhaps because he’s a man 😂

Greyduster Fri 05-Sept-25 07:45:15

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. I slept very well last night for once. It’s dry in South Yorkshire at the moment and we are promised a sunny day. Yesterday, because of the dire forecast, I cancelled my usual outdoor activities. The forecast was wrong again. We had a very short bout of rain in the late afternoon but that was it. DD rang for a chat in the evening as we hadn’t had our usual Thursday lunch catch up. So all in all, a bit of a lost day. Today I have laundry to do and will go out and stretch my legs locally.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Gingster Fri 05-Sept-25 07:40:26

Good morning all and we’re in for a lovely day ☀️. The wind has dropped and the sea is calm. our week here has flashed by but we’ve enjoyed it very much. Back to Essex later.

We arrived just ahead of a coach load of OAP’s at our favourite fish and chip cafe on the beach. Luckily the rain had stopped so we ate outside where the sun came out and was warm.

This morning I’ll change the bedding, as ds2 and family along with mil are coming this evening for the weekend. I’ll leave it spick and span for them.

The woodburner is having a new liner next week, so I’ll have to clear the decks for that.
A trip to the tip with our rubbish, as the dustman refused to take it. It’s a different system here and you can’t include bottles in with recycling, as we do at home. 😳😡.

I think we’re meeting our friends who are staying nearby for lunch before we all head ‘home’. I await messages.

GG let me know if you fancy a coffee/lunch if you need a dust - break. I’m sure Sar would join us. 👋.

Take care all and love to all struggling one way or another. ♥️

harrigran Fri 05-Sept-25 07:38:04

Good morning from a sunny NE, must be cool though as the heating is on.
Yesterday I found one of my recorders had stopped working, I could not access recorded programmes. I tried reading the instruction manual but it might as well have been in another language. In the end I resorted to pulling the plug, waited 10 seconds and put it back in, the screen lit up and showed the word REALLY. I guess it was annoyed at being disturbed. It was fixed though I got to watch my programme, in fact I binge watched the whole series just in case the recorder stopped working again 😆
Thoughts are with poorly people and their carers.

Sallyforth Fri 05-Sept-25 07:37:13

Good morning Mick and everyone from a beautiful morning in Cheshire after torrential rain at times yesterday. Got drenched just getting in from the car. It's sometimes difficult to know whether there's heavy rain or it's my tinnitus, but there was very heavy rain in the night. The garden is looking better, although the hanging baskets took a battering.

Just getting used to my new computer after I destroyed my other one by spilling a mug of tea on it. I will take it to a man who can retrieve files.

I have promised a painting to someone and typical of me, I made a mess of something, so I'm starting it again today. I know exactly what to avoid this time.

Wishing all a good day, with specially kind thoughts for those with mountains to climb. flowers

Stilllearning Fri 05-Sept-25 07:35:00

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, it’s been raining but sun is out at the moment.

I had a lovely few days with my sisters and brothers in law in Liverpool but a horrendous journey home which I am still recovering from. Train from Liverpool to Glasgow terminated at Preston due to a, damage to overhead cables, b, a broken down train, c, flooding on the line at Oxenholm, depending on who you were talking to.
Absolutely no organisation at Preston but a very helpful girl who worked in the tearoom told us there would be rail replacement buses and where to go to wait for them.
We went there and gradually a large crowd gathered, again no organised queue and every man for himself when three minibuses arrived. Goodness knows what happened to those who didn’t manage to get a seat.
Buses took us to Carlisle where a train was waiting. Oh no it wasn’t and about an hour later we were put into taxis which took us to Glasgow.
There were about two hundred unfortunate souls in the station at Carlisle who were travelling south who had been there for hours and were still there when we left.

I have been really exhausted since Wednesday, bounce back ability sadly lacking now I’m afraid!
What a way to run a railway!!

I think I’m going to have a further snooze before getting up so will just send good wishes to everyone for a pleasant day

luluaugust Fri 05-Sept-25 07:33:53

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. Art group was fun yesterday as we all caught up on what had happened during the Summer break. The lady who runs the group may be moving if her children have their way so we shall see what happens.
A visit to the Dr yesterday afternoon regarding a prescription left me rather taken aback when the GP who I have never met before referred to me as my lovely! I could only think of the husband of an aunt who came from Somerset.
Best wishes to all

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 05-Sept-25 07:30:30

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. The sky is blue at the moment and I don’t think rain is forecast.

My thumb had healed enough for me to drive OH and I out for lunch yesterday. It’s still a little sore but so much better.

We are off to Devon tomorrow on holiday for a week so have quite a things to do list. First I have to take the cooled Christmas cake out of its tin and feed it with rum before packing it away. Next, my print arrived yesterday so I will take it to the framers and choose a frame. I need to take a key to my neighbour. She will be feeding the cats. I have to do some ironing and pack.

I must send an email to the IT guy again. I contacted him on Monday about the probable serious virus on my pc which two lots of antivirus haven’t got rid of. At the moment I can’t access anything on the desk top including 100s of photos!

Have a good day. I hope MaryD had a better day yesterday and the FGT2S are enjoying any sunshine.

Redcar Fri 05-Sept-25 07:26:42

Good morning everyone from mid Essex where it’s bright and sunny so far. I think a drier day is forecast so I will go for a walk and possibly do a little gardening. I seem to have been coughing forever and the muscles in my chest wall are aching again. I hope that it will improve if I do a bit of exercise!
My Aussie cousins are continuing their travels in Yorkshire at the moment, they have a busy itinerary and will be making the most of their time in the uk.

ash I’m relieved for you that your hygienist appointment yesterday went smoothly! These visits can sometimes be as painful as the dentist’s!

granmattie, a satisfying day of problem solving for you yesterday, I hope the printer continues to work as it should, and good to have sorted out the overpayments from your bank account.

I hope the “poorlies” find some relief today.
Have the best day possible everyone.

madeleine45 Fri 05-Sept-25 07:24:37

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still clear dry day here in north yorkshire. I have not started the day well, been awake for hours, but dont know if anyone else has heard it, on channel 9 from about 4,30am to 5,30am it is lovely they just have birdsong on for that hour. So when it is too dark to get up and I am struggling anyway it is both calming and cheering to just put that on and the lights off and turn the other way so dont see any light from the screen and it is just lovely to listen to. So anyone else struggling at that time might like to give it a go. Well absolutely rubbish last night. I was in a lot of pain, couldnt find anyway to sit comfortably and I had wanted to do some more clearing up, but then felt so cold and miserable that I gave up and went to bed early. That did let me slowly warm up and be as comfortable as I could be but still not much sleep.

Then this morning a new addition to my woes!! I was getting dressed and reached for something and felt very dizzy, and had to quickly sit on the bed before I fell over. Not something that I often have to cope with, but my plan to go out very early for the paper has had to be put off until I am sure that I am totally ok and so far so good, but dont want to risk being driving and it happen again. I wouldnt dream of putting other people - or myself at risk, and my being able to drive is so important in my life, especially at the moment when I cant even do the walking that I was able to do, so at the moment I am just slowly starting the morning in the usual way and seeing how things go.

Today I was planning to stay in and catch up with jobs and tackle some more of the stuff from the dresser. I need to have everything cleared from inside the dresser and all the bags and stuff removed elsewhere so that I can take a picture of it empty. Then I can show that to anyone who might be interested and get back to one or two charity people to see if they are interested. So if I can get it all cleared out this weekend, it will be a good job done, must out of date and stuff got rid off, and will be cheered by the thought of it going and getting a decent size bookcase from a charity shop, to fill with my many books, so again clearing books from all the hither and thither places they are stacked.

Once the dresser has gone, I will find some willing hands and before I definitely decide where the bookcase is going I can try moving things about and see if there is a different way to set the room up, allowing for the fact that of course the cold weather is coming. That means that I will not want to have my desk right by the window as now. I have enjoyed watching the sun come up and the big tree which is actually in next doors garden, but shows above the fence and has provided me with much enjoyment. The squirrel has just now run along the fence and up the trunk. So each morning I enjoy seeing what wild life is about and the colours and views of the tree itself which is my early morning weather indicator. So I look at the branches and can judge the level of the wind and its direction etc. But now I need to change to winter design and put the desk further away from the draughts or cold outside. Once it gets really cold in the morning I look out at the weather but then swiftly shut the curtains to keep the warm in. No doubt people think in the winter I dont get up until about 9 o clock as I keep all the curtains shut until it has warmed up and even then leave the curtains shut in the bedroom in the day. So reluctantly I need to also look through the wardrobe and admit that I really will not need that sundress out. So it is the time for change, summer things washed and packed away in suitcases out of the way . Winter things inspected and some tried on and then decisions made as to what I really will not be wearing again and what needs to be checked out. I always put things away clean but not ironed, so the things that I decide are needed now can also add to the mountain of ironing to be spruced up ready to wear. Typically they have said that we shall get quite a bit of sunshine today, and not be likely to get any rain early on. Pity the Muker show day didnt get this weather.!

So hopefully , if my head is ok , I can look forward to a tidier room at least by this evening (but I wont hold my breath!) I definitely need a calmer quieter day, but if a friend wants to meet for coffee or I see something on today for a charity sale or coffee morning round about, the job will of course be abandoned for the joys of meeting friends and catching up with those who have been on grandparent duties , and are now glad to be home and catch their breath. So anything that actually gets done will be a plus, but I am not making a list, just do what I feel up to.

Ah the joy of Bach before 7 and it is the third movement of his Brandenburg which is a particular favourite of mine , so take that as a good omen for today. My morning coffee in my china mug and Bach to listen to, ah! I can now restart my day and pretend the earlier rubbish didnt happen!

I was sad to see the news about the funicular in Lisbon crash. I used them all the time when I was in Lisbon, and theywere always very reliable and the best way to get up and down the steep hills. I hope they can soon sort out the reason and make sure that things can be sorted and they keep going for many more years. It has been a great shock to everyone and I do hope that they can quickly identify the rest of the people killed. Such a terrible time for everyone and anyone who has family visiting Lisbon will be worrying until they can get through to them and know that they are ok.

Now we hear on the news about the diabetes cock up with the hospital checks being possibly incorrect. Well in my case I already have an appointment for the 9th of this month so can check this out then , and dont need to bother them now. But of course , every time something like this happens, it adds to patients anxiety and we have gone from almost a total belief that doctors can do no wrong and are to always believed in what they tell you, to a case now where with things like the internet, but also people who spread incorrect information for their own reasons, so that many people now do not trust what their doctors are telling them and prefer to look on the internet etc. The internet has proved absolutely brilliant for those very rare diseases where there is only a very few people in a country with the same problem, and now you can connect all round the world and in this case it is brilliant that you can share information and find out what is happening in other places that may help you in your situation. It is right that the NHS admit mistakes and deal with them as quickly as possible, but it does add to worries for people who are already anxious and worried about their diagnosis.

Well the sun is coming out more here, and hope your trip to Bicester is a successful one Mick and you see friends. You will be lost for choice in your lunch box, trying to decide which bit to eat first! GrandMattie, how frustrating that your pc wouldnt go wrong when the engineer was there. Maddening when you cant make it happen, so fingers crossed it has righted itself and the fault doesnt reoccur once the engineer has left!! I can understand how the unexpected flowers made you cry. When you are under a lot of stress, the simplest unexpected thing can catch you out. But well done you that you are getting together and will be ready to wipe the floor with the wretched nonmanager of your place. It is good that he is going to be apprehensive about your meeting. You have all had to put up with a lot more feelings of fury and worry and annoyance over his lack of efforts on your behalf. It is also good that other places supposedly helped by this firm are getting their act together. It will send a clear message that you have all had enough and they wont get away with it any longer. For once the power of the press will help you achieve your goal instead of just writing inaccurate and poor articles about such things. More power to your elbow and go get them!! Bellas nana hope all goes well for your hair cut and the boys are not too bored. Can you find out if at least the road sign could be moved past your window? It seems ludicrous to have it right outside the window and I expect someone just stuck a pin in the map and said put it there, rather than even considering where the windows were in the houses. I am reminded of that old song that Bernard Cribbins sang about "there I was , digging this hole , hole in the ground etc etc and the man saying "dont dig it there , dig it elsewhere " Do you remember it ? I shall be humming that all day now. and the moral of the song was that he buried the man in the hole!!

Well I wish all GN's a happy day and may you all have a chance meeting with an old friend and have the luxury of leaving the jobs and enjoying their company. Here I intend to be grateful for whatever weather I get. Sunny and I down tools inside and try and get a few plants planted. Raining I shall be inside battling on with the clearing of the dresser with good coffe to cheer me on. Winner, winner, chicken dinner as gthe children used to say!
