Clothes attracting stains.

Do you have any clothes that seem to attract food spills and other stains?

I have recently bought 3 sweatshirts from Landsend. They are lovely to wear at this time of the year - but I can only wear them once before I spill something (usually food blush) or mark them with something else.

It doesn't happen with other tops

When deciding what to wear for our daughters wedding I knew it would have to be patterned 🙄

I've always had trouble with pale blue trousers. My latest pair , lovely wide leg linen ones, have gone the way of all the others, stained with grass stains, grubby at the knees and just don't ever look clean, for some reason.

i just had a Magnum and just noticed a big blob of chocolate on my t shirt!

That was me on Saturday, it looked like half the chocolate had melted then set on the front of my top as I didn't notice at first (watching tv).

Yup - usually light coloured tops and usually a hard to remove stain like toothpaste or tomato sauce 😡

I have a lovely COS navy cotton t-shirt dress. I can only ever wear it once, and it often takes more than one wash to remove the stains. It ends up with large, greasy marks that are out of all proportion to anything that might have got dropped or splashed on it. I have wondered whether to try using a scotch guard type spray on it?
I read that it has something to do with the specifics of the fabric. Neither LandsEnd or COS are cheap brands.

Glad I am not on my own, with regards to slopping 😂
I said to my husband many years ago, that I am going to smarten myself up, just as I said that, there was a landslide of mash & gravy sliding down my top 🤦‍♀️

Our version is that if you wear dark coloured clothes the cats only shed their white hairs. If you wear light shades, only the black cat sheds her black hairs - she has a couple of white splodges.

The marmelade cat litters the place with his orange hairs, irrespective of what you wear.

Use a bib ha. I always use a tea- towel.

Oh! I'm glad I'm not alone in using a tea-towel as a sort-of bib.
My Mother always said that my name should be Slap-dash-Annie.😶

I always use a tea towel and so does my daughter 😆

I have a big stack of old tea towels in the cupboard for messy eating. Have trained husband to get a ‘cloth out’ for any meal involving pasta and have also warned him to never, ever, get them out when we have anyone round for a meal, we have ‘proper’ napkins then grin

It seems to be cotton that I am fond of wearing that has impossible to shift stains despite my best efforts.

I often think that I need a bib when I eat. it is very hard for me to remain pristine plus of course a big smattering of doggy glitter (Hair!)

I really should wear a hazmat suit when I am cooking or eating curry. Even if I wear an apron, I’ll get a tiny spot or a stain on a sleeve or somewhere but never on the apron! GS cooked and ate a curry here last week and never got a spot on him. Maybe it’s an age thing! I have three of GS’s original Mothercare muslin squares and I still use one when I’m eating spaghetti bolognese, but not in company😁!

Yes!!!! I thought it was only me!! I always have a couple of “fated” garments on the go, every blinking time I wear them something gets splattered on them! 🤦‍♀️

Dippy egg down a black T-shirt curtailed my Saturday outing, it looked like a long greasy stain down my boob - I really should carry a spare top out with me.

cornergran Mon 08-Sept-25 13:31:30

I’ve a striped top on today. Four quite bright, forgiving colours with white between. Just had lunch. Guess which colour the excess food landed on? grin.

Dwmxwg Mon 08-Sept-25 13:26:03

I bought this T-shirt for my husband. It is very apt!

RosieandherMaw Mon 08-Sept-25 13:10:33

It is a generally and universally accepted fact that any white, cream or pale top will automatically attract tomato based sauce eg bolognese, from any distance up to 5 miles.
The same law applies to silk or cashmere and oil whether vinaigrette or splashes from the frying pan.

I cannot wear anything white! Dirt would jump up and hit me even if I stood still. I am happy in my indigo jeans and coloured tops. For eating anything messy like spaghetti I wear a napkin clipped to a chain round my neck. The trouble is the food then drops into my lap so I have another napkin there. I live alone so nobody sees!

ViceVersa Mon 08-Sept-25 10:01:34

I'm another one who always manages to drop stuff down myself - especially when I'm wearing something light-coloured. Good job I usually stick to dark colours!

J52 Mon 08-Sept-25 09:59:06

One of life’s mysteries in order to keep us on our toes!

kittylester Mon 08-Sept-25 09:48:21

But it doesn't happen on other clothes - why?

It's not as though I wear the tops often - they are always in the wash!!

Sillymoo Mon 08-Sept-25 09:34:05

If we are on our own I wear an apron to eat as well as cook!
