What have you got enough to last you a lifetime?

I’ve just gone into my spice cupboard to get my jar of nutmegs, it occurred to me I am unlikely to ever have to buy any again.

The same goes for knickers and lipstick.

What have you got a lifetimes supply of?

Clothes-

I just can't resist charity shop and sales bargains . I used to sew .
Recently I must have taken ten sacks to charity shops and each sack contained about ten dresses - some were mine and some long since abandoned by one of my daughters .
Some others have been given to my friend's daughter , who is a singer . She was thrilled with them .
I've boxed up some favourite dresses which are too small in the hope that I'll get into them and if I don't they will go as well .

Books-

My friends say that I have more books than the public library .
I've given many away and the local charity shops rejected some my paperbacks so they've gone into the recycling .

Art materials-

I didn't realise that I had so much . Hopefully I'll do some artwork .

Tablecloths, plates, baking equipment, houseplants and pots, vases, towels, duvet covers.😊

Towels.
I had a clear out last week and took 6 bath sheets to a local charity. Then, yesterday I was in M&S, with a voucher from my birthday, and came out with, yes, a lovely set of navy blue towels 🤦‍♀️. No hope.

Tea towels. Far too many. I become attached to very old ones 🙄
My daughter brings me one every time she’s away. I have dozens from all round the World including the Falkland I.

Knickers. About 52 pairs at the last count 😂

Biscuits from Aldi. I stock up as I’m never sure when/if I’ll visit again 🛒

Books.
You can never have too many ….📚

Marmight, watch those towels in the wash! The dark blue comes out even after several washes, I know to my cost😬

Plasters.
I bought various novelty ones when GC were small and can still be seen sporting Peppa Pig or Spider-Man on a cut finger from time to time.

Yarns - especially fine ones.
I have maybe 100kg of yarn all together- which will be impossible to get through in my lifetime - and which costs me to store because I need to moth-protect it all. 🙄

You might like to rethink storing. We had a friend who had done the same. When she moved she “gifted” the yarn to her friends - there were 5 of us. And we shared it amongst us. Sadly most of it was unusable as it seemed to have weakened in storage.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 I honestly don't think you can have too many perfumes.

Perfume.
I have so many bottles. Each reminds me of a place/person and I choose according to my mood. I’m thinking (long term) to use them all up and then have just 2 signature perfumes - decide on a light one for daytime and a different one for evenings. Maybe.

Similar Onlymedea except neither of us hoard, we have ‘enough’ for day to day.
Re teaspoons, both my children and grandchildren, if not watched, threw teaspoons in the bin with their empty yoghurt pots, I caught on eventually!

I'll have to watch what they are up to. I did have one GC live with me for a couple of years after parents split up and he had issues at home. He would take a packed lunch, usually something like pasta with chicken in a tomato sauce, and took forks with him. Over a few weeks I lost virtually all my forks but he denied responsibility, bought new cutlery and now it is teaspoons.

Dinner services, 3 complete sets of dinner, tea and associated tea/ coffee pots etc.
We use most of one, but I just can’t bear to get rid of the others.

Cutlery?

I am finding I need more.
May end up buying a canteen of cutlery.
Not had a new one of them since I got married.

I think my GC either eat my cutlery or steal it for some strange reason, hard to imagine what the two year old might be doing with it but then it might be his big cousins. Teaspoons are a particular issue.

Onlymedea Wed 10-Sept-25 16:18:47

Can't really think of anything. I'm married to a hoarder so I sort of compensate by not buying more of anything that I need now. I suppose my crochet hooks will see me out.

Plant pots, crockery, coats (I have a bit of a coat addiction). I’ve got enough coffee to last me about six months, but I don’t buy too much because it deteriorates in storage over time. I don’t have lots of candles, toiletries or soap for the same reason, as they seem to lose their smell if I keep them a long time.

Witzend Wed 10-Sept-25 14:42:27

I’d like to say knitting yarn, since I have 2 large drawers crammed, but I know I’ll end up ordering more in the not too distant future- even though I’ve recently sorted out 16 different colours for a ‘rainbow’ octopus - next project after current heffalump.

Tablecloths - unless we change the table for a different size.

I had lots of white damask tablecloths (don't ask) and sent them to the charity shop years ago. Life's too short to starch and iron tablecloths.

Sadgrandma Wed 10-Sept-25 14:19:57

Ornaments and jewellery. I’ve had to say no more as presents please.
