Time to get the jumpers out

Decided yesterday here in South East it would be a good day to put the short sleeved teeshirts away . I also sorted out summer skirts that I haven't worn for years so they're ready for the charity shop. DH's mobility is not good so also raided his wardrobe. I don't think he'll notice as he always wears what nearest to him in the wardrobe!

Jumpers are packed away at the top of the wardrobe. I get quite excited when I get them down as I'd forgotten what I do have and how many.

Still hoping for an indian summer but I'm ready in case it doesn't happen. Really cool here today. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

There are four wardrobes in my house. In one I keep dresses, skirts and trousers another one has tops and cardigans. Coats in another and the last wardrobe is home for my upstairs cleaner.

No putting away and getting out as the seasons change for me.

@beechnut. You employ a cleaner for upstairs and she lives in a cupboard. Do you live in a mansion?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

No jumpers yet.
A cardigan will suffice.

Ok, it’s a bit chilly, mornings and evenings, but it’s definitely not winter yet.

I’m trying to save on fuel as monthly direct debits will probably shoot up quite soon.

Plenty of throws and extra covers on bed will do for me until real weather comes to bite.

Cardigan, for now ….

Oh, such luxury Beechnut! I’m the upstairs and downstairs cleaner, with just the 2 wardrobes - his and hers! 🙄

I have been wearing my winter jumpers and warm trousers most of the summer as we have not had the heat you have had down south. I think I only had lighter things on for about a week.

Aww! yes my friend lives in Helensburgh, I often sit basking in the heat seeing that it has been raining there again.

I wore long trousers today, first time since April. Gales blowing, but even so we have had a few bursts of sun

Sympathies

We put the heating on today as I've been sat shivering this week while OH has been sat in a Tshirt and shorts!
Can't wait to get my winter clothing down from the loft. Time for a good sort out as my wall to wall wardrobe is full of just my summer clothes.

I hate winter clothes all muffled up but it’s definitely time it’s dead chilly
I realised I really dislike the three new jumpers I bought last year so looks I need a little walk round the charity shops as we ve only got MandS Peacocks and Bonmarche here and none of my jumpers wore well last year bobbled and didn’t hang nice so it’s either charity shops or online but I hate online clothes shopping as they look so different on me to the model on my screen ( can’t think why)

Cotton jumper for me today and I feel so cosy, also snag tights and warm slippers.

I'm finding the temperature unpredictable. It felt like Autumn yesterday, and that seems early to me, but seasons are variable, I know.
I need to review clothing and sort. I tend just to accumulate - and as I layer that can be an advantage, but it can also mean some items get totally forgotten in wardrobes.

I wore a cotton jumper yesterday, it felt just right and though I'd order another couple as it's really quite old but has worn really well. It was from Land's End but their website offers a very poor selection- are they in trouble?

It's just occurred to me that I don't actually own any 'jumpers', if we're talking about woolly or cotton ones. Everything I have in that general line is either sweatshirts, hoodies or fleecy tops. Can't remember the last time I actually wore anything woolly.

I find wool itches so avoid wool, but I do have jumpers, one is made out of old tyres ! It feels like cotton and washes well.,

I’m not sure you are allowed to sell the staff?
Doesn’t that smack of slavery?

I suppose you could hire them out!

All these jokes about a cleaner in the cupboard made me laugh 😃 At least she didn't call it a Hoover when it's a vacuum 'cleaner".

😂my downstairs cleaner lives under the stairs. I don’t let them out very often if I can help it.

I like your thinking Beechnut. I have two small wardrobes in my bedroom, before we moved here they belonged to my sons, and before that to my first marriage in the 1960s when they were a ‘quality’ threesome… you know the sort, two small wardrobes either side of a dressing table all in white cheap wood/ pseudo wood! When we moved I gave my youngest a new large wardrobe, my eldest away at Uni mostly had the tiniest bedroom so I got that ‘done out’ so he got a wardrobe , bed and study area all fitted, and I ended up with the 2 small reject wardrobes. That was 26 years ago, never had enough money to re do my own bedroom. So now I am still cramming in all my clothes into those plus half of my youngest sons wardrobe… the rest contain all those things my sons want to keep but at 44 and 47 haven’t quite got around to sorting them out… ! My eldest son’s tiny room still contains all his things plus all my junk a la box room, but he and family live in Japan… so can’t just chuck it out! I turned out masses of black bags full of clothes earlier this year , but there is still no space… I could also do with an upstairs and downstairs cleaner in cupboards, but no cupboards available. I keep thinking I will save and splurge on a new wardrobe or two… but… ( only 80 next year so… ? Maybe one day!) .
PS: been in jumpers or cardigans for most of the year, it maybe warm outside but inside it is really cold! Old Terraced house built of stone and brick, but the sun only gets in, in the living room, once a day at around 6 pm for half an hour…! S.w.wales.

Don't put your summer clothes away just yet!

It's due to warm up again. 🌞

Transition into autumn and winter now taken place. I sadly realise I have far too much but there is nothing I can donate. Going to buy two pairs of joggers for around the house
but will have to get rid of current ones. I prefer winter clothes as they cover lumps and bumps

Yesterday was much warmer, in the South anyway and not cold today either.Cardigans are the way to go.

karmalady Wed 17-Sept-25 09:47:58

I am adapting. It was 20 downstairs and I am feeling cosy, quite possibly because I am cosy in my bed, having transitioned from slinky sleeveless nighties to my cotton pyjamas and bedsocks, I need those for the feet pampering but the spin-off is that I am now sleeping through the whole night and coming downstairs feeling warm
