Need a lie down!

Its really windy but dry so I thought change the bed. It was stripped and in the machine then I thought while I'm at it I'll put my thicker quilt on and my heated underblanket as I was chilly last night. So they were all still packed from my move, by the time I'd done all that and put on fresh bedding I was exhausted and seriously thought about lying on it but settled for a cuppa on the sofa. When did I get so old I'd need a rest after changing my bed?

It's the putting on the duvet cover that gets me. Tried all the different methods with no easier outcome, in fact when its a pure cotton duvet I turn into a totally vicious creature and, now, the winter duvet to add to the problem.

win

To go with it I also bought a Fall & Rise fitted sheet, expensive but it just slips on and even show what is the short side, without having to search around it. I don't mind changing the bed at all now.

Oh that is my bug bare, putting the fitted sheet on wrong way round. I’ve now marked the label, top left so I know it’s the short end.

I’m 70 (though only for another week or so!) and so far I’m doing ok. The worst thing for me is getting up and down from my knees, I just can’t do it now without needing to haul myself up with the aid of a chair or something. I’ve been decluttering and getting up and down from low cupboards is such a pain.

I do think mattresses have actually got heavier over the years! For a start, they’re much deeper than they used to be and now have all sorts of fillings in them.

Lathyrus there are some cotton coverless duvets, as long as your washing machine can take the load.

That actually is the same waffle pattern as my duvet cover. Quite nice

You deserve an award for such a long day.

I used to do a full day of childcare and it was lovely but tiring.

I struggle with duvets. I'm afraid if my adult children come to stay I strip beds and wash the covers but let them remake them when they arrive. I sometimes put the fitted sheet and pillowcases on but never the duvet cover. If they only stay a couple of days I leave 'til next time. I just have to remember who last stayed!

Thank you, I love my day with him. DD got home a bit early so I got a train a bit earlier so I'm home and making dinner for DH who is disabled. Big GS stays with him Monday night so I can have a night away. Families pulling together is good isn't it.

Leave the clean bedding out for them to make the bed and ask them to strip it down when they leave. If they are there to help they shouldn't mind.

This might be helpful for some of us: a top sheet with the bottom corners fitted and the top edge flat.
Only comes in a single bed size as far as I can see.

Here's a duvet cover with zips round three sides!
Different sizes available but it's only in grey.

A cup of tea and a sandwich gets to me some days, I don't even bother rinsing the dishes, they can wait until later, I can please myself now I’ve more interesting things to do, like read a book on kindle 😊

I stil use the super king bed needed when mr I was here. We would change the bedding together. I find doing it alone a trial. Managing to put the sheets on, then the super king duvet cover - exhausting

I pace myself after each chore making sure I have a sit down.
Trouble is making myself get up again!!

I have this same conversation with my 85 yr old sister...I'm 2 yrs older we have both slowed down to almost stagnant.

Its true, getting old ain't for sissies

I know what you're saying!

Bed changing is one of my pet peeves!

As I live alone, it's just a single bed. I hate sheets -top and bottom - and won't use them, same with blankets and I never have heated blankets etc, etc., but I feel utterly exhausted after stripping the bed to turn the mattress around, which is amazingly heavy for a single, then stripping the duvet cover and pillow cases off, then a new lot back on, I just have to have a lie down after!

But this is coming from me, who works as a carer for mentally and physically disabled adults and is ALWAYS changing beds for patients, but it doesn't exhaust me doing those multiple times each shift, just my own single bed!

Now I need a lie down just thinking of changing my bed again!

Me too, hate it it's exhausting! It is nice to get into a nice fresh bed though. 😅😁

I’m glad it’s not just me 😂

I couldn't do the fitted sheets, so I bought extra large flat sheets. I tuck them in a little at the top, and leave the rest loose. With the valance, it gives it a layered look.
I put the top sheet on the bottom when changing the bed. Replace the top with the one I have just washed.Have a coverless duvet and matching pillow cases . I sleep on a silk pillow case, which I can rinse in the sink.
So every week I wash I sheet . Has cut down a lot of work for me.
