Good Morning Tuesday 16th September 2025
(38 Posts)Good morning from Bristol.
I’m off to London in an hour for an exhibition at the national gallery with a friend from church. There is also a free one whim I’m hoping to visit.
Yesterday’s meeting was absolutely exhausting. Mr. Teflon seemed very subdued and not the usual cocky chappie…. He accepted full responsibility for the failure to fix our problems, but… alway a but - the contractors that the (now dismissed) CEO had appointed in January was a disaster. Spreadsheets kept on being mentioned, computers not speaking to each other, yadda, yadda, yadda. He was going to go over the heads of his own managers and get the stuff done by different, possibly local, contractors. Would we give him 3 weeks to fix that?
We also discussed expenditure for the last year and had been puzzled by a bill for £900+ for “communal water”. As we don’t have any taps etc., for communal use, it was queried. Turns out that it was the resident manager’s water use we were paying for. £900??? Blimey. We have demanded that any new person’s bill was paid by them!
I was wiped out, but after a rushed lunch, I went to a WI meeting. The talk was very interesting, by a lady who made ewe’s milk cheeses. Lots of samples were passed round…
I was so tired by the end of the day that I fell into bed by 9 pm, the of course have been awake since about 3. 😡
I hope MD and FGT appointments were ok; that everyone has a good day.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
Good morning Mick and everyone from a very dark morning in Cheshire. I haven't checked the weather forecast but there is rain on the windows at present.
I too have had a very disturbed sleep as the company who made and fitted my new French doors have made a mistake. I didn't notice until the builder pointed it out to me. So have been going over and over in my head the conversation I must have today. This is the sort of thing I find overwhelming about being alone, but the builder will be here and is a great support.
Telling myself to get a sense of proportion when I think of MD and FGT with their worries.
Wishing all a good day.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a still dark South Yorkshire, where I have been awake since four🙄. It looks to have been a damp night, but I hope today will be at least calmer than it was yesterday with very strong winds. I went to the gym early and then back chasing paint samples. I am going to be running this thing up to the wire as I still haven’t made a decision and the decorator starts on Monday! In the afternoon I made a cake, wrote some emails and watched tv.
Today, I have no idea what the day has in store but I hope it won’t involve getting wet or blown off my feet!
Have the best day you can folks.
Good morning from Shropshire.Dark amd chilly at the moment but a sunny day forecast.
Yesterdays clinic appointment went well.A lovely dr who after our last phone appointment had researched any contra indications of my medications with the planned treatment and had spoken to a consultant with a special interest in my condition.I came out feeling hopeful and so grateful to have such a lovely dr helping me.
Today is exercise class which I hope to manage for the first time since being ill.I have managed half the class once so will try again💪🏼I will then go to M and S food for some of mum’s favourite chocs and biscuits. She will be 93 on Friday.
grandMattie well done on a successful outcome to your meeting. Now wonder you were exhausted.
Sallyforth I am sure with the support of your builder things will get sorted.
Thoughts with FGT and Marydoll and all with mountains to climb.I hope whywhywhy had a better day.
Wishing you all a good day🦩🌻
Good morning from a dry but rather chilly Torbay.
It sounds as if Mr. Teflon is attempting to be conciliatory, grandMattie but how could one person use £900 worth of water?! My monthly SO for water is £19.50! I’m glad you have something completely different on which to focus today and you enjoy the exhibition.
Worries always magnify in the wee small hours, Sallyforth. I’m sure your builder will deal with the fitter for you.
Last week's shopping trip to Lidl resulted in a string of lights with autumn leaves attached 🍂 so I have those up in one window with owls and hedgehogs in the other. It’s been a few years since I’ve felt like bothering to put them up which shows how much better I feel now. (The downside is that I’ve gained a stone in weight since being in hospital in March!)
Usual morning at Props at the theatre today. I hope everyone is as well as possible plus thoughts of those who have worries of any kind. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩
Good morning from calm s somerset
An excellent result so far GM, a good start and they can now see that you, as a group, are no push overs.
I had the most dreadful deep filling yesterday, the worst I ever had. My dentist is lovely and she has saved my tooth, we think. The pain afterwards was excruciating, after the anaesthetic wore off and I cancelled a visit to a friend today, I was set to make her front garden nice for her but I need to rest while I heal. I won`t be doing anything active for a few days
Have a good day
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° with clear skies. It's been raining overnight. GrandMattie that's a fairly successful outcome, although keep him to his timescale. Susan I'm glad you found a supportive doctor. Sallyforth hopefully you won't find the conversation too difficult, especially if your builder is there too.
Yesterday I had a good day. I enjoyed working in the library and had a constant stream of staff in and out. (I'm under no illusions, the photocopier is housed there too). I set up two topic displays for different year groups and a new fiction focus for pupils. Back home, I pottered about and didn't achieve much. The boys were very good apart from dgs2 not wanting to come back to my house after wed dropped off dgs1 at football. He had a bit of a mood and sat on the front steps until I tempted him with a mini cupcake.
Today I'll feed the boys breakfast, drop them at school and go home again to potter. As usual, the kitchen needs tidying. I might make toad in the hole later for dinner. Have a good day all.
Ashcombe your autumn display sounds lovely. I'm not putting anything up just yet. Karma that sounds so painful. My sympathy
Good morning from a decidedly cooler morning in Wiltshire.
We arrived back home from Crete early evening. The flight was fine until we were close to the UK and we approached Bristol airport very slowly due to the gusty winds and landed safely as we were held for a while on the ground at Chania due to the conditions in the UK. Having had a terrible landing once at Bristol I was nervous (that one made it onto YouTube!).
We loved being back in Crete but didn’t love the 5* JW Marriott we stayed in which opened in June. It was anything but with the most expensive drinks I’ve ever seen. 18€ for a cocktail! There was a lovely place in the nearby village though.
Whereabouts are you staying in Crete GrannyIvy?
Emergency dental appointment for a broken molar this morning. It hasn’t caused me any problems but I’ve been very careful eating.
Good news from the FGTs. I hope you get some answers soon Marydoll. You’ve been shoved from pillar to post.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning, it’s dry and clear skies at the moment here in south Glos, a pink tinge again on the horizon.
I spent a couple of hours in the school garden yesterday morning, dodging hefty showers. I planted several hundred bulbs in the bed I cleared last week which should look lovely in the spring.
If it’s dry today I will do some of my garden, mainly cutting back the perennials and deadheading the roses. I suspect that the weeds will still be growing too.
Off for a walk with tiddler, an Ocado shop is coming early so DH can deal with that while we’re out on a wander.
Have a good day if you can 🌹
Good morning all. Thank goodness that very strong wind has abated. 💨.
Today I’m off on a coach trip with my pal, on a steaming adventure. 🚂. Looking forward to it but Dh had a fall yesterday and has been very unsteady, so I’m worried about leaving him. He has his alarm bracelet and phone.
Dd will be coming to sit with him and also walking the dog.
Bless her. I shouldn’t have booked a long day away .
Take care all. 🍁
Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Clear blue sky at the moment but I think it’s another day of sunshine and showers. At least the wind seems to have dropped thank goodness. I need to go out today and hope I won’t get blown over. Problems with the electricity supply have messed up the underfloor heating in the bathroom- first world problems! I’ll have to try to sort the thermostat out after breakfast.
I tried a little digging yesterday, managed to get one hollyhock root out, just about four more to do.
I’ll collect my prescription this morning and see my friend with dementia this afternoon.
I hope that your meeting with the Teflon man actually results in the repairs etc being done grandmattie enjoy your visit to the National Gallery today.
karma I hope your mouth feels more comfortable today and glammagran I hope your dental appointment goes well.
susan I hope you manage the whole exercise class today and don’t suffer too many aches afterwards. Good that your appointment yesterday was so encouraging.
Hopeful news from fgt yesterday! Thinking of them and md and anyone else with mountains to climb.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's damp after a wet night.
I'm up and dressed waiting for my trusty electrician who's going to be here soon to fix the heating. I hope there's nothing wrong just the programming.....
My kiln controller is faulty too and I want him to shut my sash window which has been stuck open all Summer!
You're right Sallyforth, it's hard being on your own.
I have the podiatrist this morning.
Yesterday a visit from my potential house buyer bringing a fellow musician, who he hopes will share the running costs.
Well done gMattie. I would say that's an excellent outcome. Teflon didn't need to lose face but just take you seriously. £900 for water! You might think about opening a well.
Enjoy the gallery today.
I hope the appointments went well Marydoll and FGT
Rest up Karmalady gentle warm salty mouthwashes for you.
Hoping everyone has some joy today.
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I don’t think rain is forecast but it’s very windy.
OH managed to cut the lawns yesterday - our gardener is coming today and it was rather wild and long.
I attended a meeting to talk about diabetes prevention. My GP recommended I go along and this was the third meeting. Basically we should do a little more exercise and eat less.
I am popping round to see friends after lunch and will take a batch of chocolate muffins with me. They are so rich they don’t need icing.
I am still waiting for news of the picture which I bought from the Royal Academy which is being framed locally.
I managed to get in touch with an IT guy yesterday. The person I used before never even replied to my emails. This person got back to me straight away and fixed a remote appointment for Thursday morning. He thinks the problem may be scareware rather than an actual virus.
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning from a bright and sunny S E Essex.
Will attempt to hang the curtains in the GC’s bedroom and playroom today, I have decided to go with the blue, and if push comes to shove repaint the walls 🤷♀️
Thinking of our poorly GM friends and those with other troubles 🙋♀️
Morning Mick, morning All from a calmer corner of Somerset.
We need to do some wind damage repairs this morning, tubs blown over, garden lighting snapped, a small shrub half uprooted. Nothing too major thankfully.
I left my eye hospital appointment far less chipper than I went in. For the first time the process was incredibly painful and my vision was left very blurred which affected my balance. Mr C was worried as I’d been in the room so long and said I was very white when I emerged. Vision had settled a bit by the time we reached home, although my eye was very painful. Thankfully it’s much better all round this morning or we’d have headed off to their specialist A&E. There’s a number I can call if it doesn’t settle completely. A one off I hope!
Other than supervising garden repairs nothing much on the agenda today. I may do a little ironing, odd soul that I am I enjoy it. Something about creating order. Coffee out seems a good plan too.
I’ll catch up with everyone’s news later. Tea and toast time now.
Have the best day you can everyone.
Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s eventually stopped raining after yesterday non stop rain.
Try to enjoy your day out Gingster you very much deserve it, good that your DD will be there on hand with your DH
I’m going to the gym today for a couple of classes, there’s time in between for a coffee and chat with some of the ladies. Then I’ll call into DD2s, she’s asked for a bit of help with a few things
Welcome home glammagran, pleased the flight was ok and hope the dentist appointment goes ok
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
Good Morning fr MS. Sunny today, but it's still too hot here for being outdoors.
I haven't read any of the morning msgs yet, but I hope that today brings some bit of enjoyment for everyone.🌻
Good morning from a grey NE.
Yesterday we had rain most of the day. I spent the entire day in the study looking for lost paperwork.
I have felt unwell for a few days but this morning I feel really poorly and my guts are in overdrive. Not sure whether it is a virus or due to the stress I have been suffering this last week.
I think I will stay in the bedroom today as I have the en suite just a few steps away. I will probably be only drinking water so no need to go downstairs.
Have the best day you can.
Good morning Mick and everyone from bright Carlisle. We haven't had the bad weather forecast, yesterday morning was very showery with a lot of water sitting on the ground for a while and it was very breezy but has to be rather worse to be called bad weather hereabouts!
I just got on with the bed changing, laundry and vacuuming, followed by the tedious job of trying to collate the extra info the travel insurers want for my claim. No wonder I woke with a bad head this morning.
I shall put that job aside today. I'm going to go through my drawers and wardrobes re-sorting my clothes for the coming season. It's cooler in the house now, my heating, controlled by the thermostat, has kicked in. I was hoping to go to the end of the month but I don't intend to be suffering!
Later, I hope to be out planting my shrubs, otherwise it will be a reading afternoon if that's not possible.
You have my sympathies, karma, I hope it all settles down quickly.
And wishing you all a pleasant day.
Good morning from a calm Suffolk but the garden is showing signs of the very high winds yesterday. There are no actual branches down but lots of twigs and the pond has a covering of leaves…but nothing like the storm of 1987! The power cut we had yesterday was only for 3 hours whereas in the great storm it was for 6 days.
I’m meeting 2 friends today for lunch in Woodbridge which is a convenient midway point for the 3 of us. We worked together on difficult cases although for different organisations and have been friends for more than 35 years. We value our time together but because of other commitments only manage to meet 3 or 4 times a year.
I hope today is a good one for all.
Good morning. Sun is up and it is beautiful dry at the omens here in N. Bucks.
Yesterday’s (. condensed) talks were interesting andI think all but one will be put on the WI speakers list. The charity quiz was fun, we came 3rd so were quite pleased.
Some housework this morning then WI knitting group this afternoon.
This evening I am joining the local voices choir. I have been in choirs all my life and have sung solos and at peoples weddings. About 19 years ago I had a lot of trouble with a chronic cough and throat problems which stopped me singing. I lost my confidence but have now been persuaded to have a go again. I suspect I will be singing alto rather than first soprano but it should be fun. I have really missed it.
Wishing all a good day with a smile along the way.
Good Morning from Durham. After a day of sunshine and showers yesterday, it’s forecast sunshine and wind today.
I was pleased to get everything on my list done yesterday.
Today, DGS1 is 8 - doesn’t time fly? He’s a bit of a handful at times, but settling down now and always such a kind boy.
I’m meeting a friend for lunch today, then off to buy some euro, before calling in to see the Birthday Boy, who has been persuaded to open his gifts after school. He’d had his party last weekend, so I think just family gifts today.
DD1 had a flat tyre yesterday - a hazard of her job. I’m on call if needed.
DD2 is driving up to Edinburgh today, so I might get Little Dog, although she hasn’t asked as yet.
I won’t mention individuals, but I’m sorry to read of so many GN’s (and/or their loved ones) feeling unwell today, whilst others are facing difficult days with decisions to be made.
Best wishes to all. X
Good morning all from a sunny, Autumn morning in Glasgow, where it is 11°C. However, we have showers forecast.
Well done GM on making progress, I hope you enjoy your day in London.
Isn't it wonderful Susan, when you meet a clinician, who has actually read your history and is proactive. A rare breed.
The outcome of my GP visit, I have an urgent referral to the colorectal clinic, with a maximum two week waiting time.
I actually felt quite calm at the news, but was surprised at how quickly I would be seen.
The receptionists laughed when I appeared again and asked if I wanted a job and a set of keys, so that in the future, I could let myself in.
I needed a stash of repeats, but would have needed to wait until Thursday to pick up.
My favourite receptionist kindly printed out the scripts and asked a passing GP to sign them, rather than me having to come back again with Babydoll.
These are the acts of kindness, which make life more tolerable.
I'm off to church, to supervise the installation of new stage curtains, A seamstress parishioner is dealing with it, but I'm the P.P's go between! He is still convalescing from his op.
I won't be staying, as I would normally do. New priorities.
The P,P totally forgot the young mothers' group would be in at the same time, (I didn't) so of course I have had to grovel to them.
They are a formidable force. 🤣
It was only when the group leader said they couldn't find the latest bulletin on the parish website, that I realised I had totally forgotten to update it this week.
I actually thought, that no-one read it, but obviously parishioners do and rely on it for news!🤣
Corner, I hope your eye settles down and best wishes for dental and medical appointments..
I am off to M&S, DH has offered to come with me, but I need time alone to gather my thoughts.
Have a good day folks.
