Supper or just a drink?

Around this time of night, if at home, I fancy a little something, I usually go for a mug of Milo and a biscuit. Now and then a bowl of rice crispies, but DP often has cheese on toast which I tell him will give him nightmares, not that it does.
If I have home made cake in then I have a slice of that, but don’t like shop cakes.
I get bored with the same things, what do you go for?

Fasting for a long time isn’t good for you at all, particularly as you get older and acid reflux can be a problem.Remember that the stomach is never really empty it has acid sloshing around in it waiting to digest the next food that comes it’s way.
If you want to stay slim, walk or exercise or eat smaller meals and cut out sweets and cakes.

I usually have a Weetabix. Carbs help me to get to sleep easily and, being whole meal, stays in the stomach longer and carries me through the night till getting up time. If I wake in the early hours as I often do, I don’t want to be feeling hungry as I would if I’d had nothing. I would have to get up and go down for something or I’d not get back to sleep.
Incidentally, fasting is not good for you if you have a blood sugar problem and need to eat something every 3 hours or so (not diabetic btw)

I usually have a piece of toast with marmalade and a cup of tea. I find it soothing and satisfying. Always had supper as a wee girl and have continued into adulthood.
In winter, I have a hot toddy a few times a week in my bed and it’s very comforting.
I am amazed with the grans who have the will power to not eat anything from dinner until breakfast.

I try not to eat after 7pm and don’t have breakfast till 9am at the earliest. Fasting is good for you and eating late at night is not great.

DGS used to drink it, I thought it was just available in Australia.

I'm off to find Milo now, another one that's never heard of it.

I’ve just had one of those little lemon tarts from M&S, with single cream, 😋

DH and I are both slim and trying to keep it that way. We have breakfast around 8am and dinner around 6.30 to 6.45pm. We have some peppermint tea around 9. This gives us about 13 hours with no food and we believe that helps us maintain our weight.

Milo is a mild tasting hybrid of cocoa and malt😃

Ahh never seen it. Does it help with sleep?

Yes it does, and not sickly like some bedtime drinks.Sainsbury and Tesco sell it, give it a go.😃

We have our main meal at 1-ish, I have a snack about 4.30 then a hot drink around 6-ish. I don’t usually have breakfast, just coffee.

After our evening meal I just couldn’t be bothered going out to do anything further in the kitchen. Otherwise catering seems to go on all day.

What is milo?
I have a cup of hot milk, with a couple of spoons of oats - helps me to sleep.

It sounds like Horlicks.

if I feel peckish, 2-3 oatcakes…
Crisps, cake and other treats tend to happen during the day!

😄that’s a whole other story, daytime and what goes on with snacks there.

It depends on what my shifts are, but if I'm home at supper time, then it's a bowl of CocoPops and either a mug of PG Tips or something cold - milk, fizzy, Robinsons fruit juice - or if I'm not working the next day, it could be a lager or Baileys!

We eat between 7 and 8 and then that’s it, no more until our yoghurt, granola and toast in the morning.

If we ate as early as 5 I would be snacking all night and the size of a house.

I am baffled. What's Milo? Never heard of it. Always have supper here, more out of habit than hunger. Tea is 6pm. Usually have tea and toast (with vegemite)

Are you in Oz?😃

Interesting reading, Milo is now an instant drink chocolate and malt, make with boiled water and top up with milk.Comes in large tins from the supermarket.Years ago you had to heat up milk in a pan and add to the Milo powder.

I never drink after dinner. I have a stash of fruit and halva if I’m grazing while watching tv. That’s why I knit, to try not to pick at things and get fatter than I am…

NannyJan53 Wed 17-Sept-25 05:41:38

Dinner is around 7pm, after that nothing to eat. MrJ usually has a coffee and cake or biscuit around 9pm.

GrannyIvy Wed 17-Sept-25 04:24:55

We eat dinner between 7 and 8 and then only water or a glass of wine. I do like a digestive biscuit in the evening but try to resist 😂
