Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Such a positive and uplifting post, Fgt 💐💐

cornergran Thu 23-Oct-25 20:51:25

Excellent fgt. Never worry about a long post smile.

It’s mostly been a smiling day here too. A chatty, laughing morning with our neighbours and friends, an excuse for posh biscuits too. Phone calls and the completion of a tedious admin task this afternoon. All very simple and just the sort of day I enjoy.

Rest well everyone. Feet up under a heated throw here now. Bliss.

Jaxjacky Thu 23-Oct-25 19:54:23

Wonderful FGT joy in your heart ❤️

An early ‘Evening All’.

So far we are having a 2nd smooth and relaxing day, without drama. Bluddy wonderful and so needed for both of us.

Himself had the energy today for a shave this morning (arms up, no muscles) which was too much effort before his admission. He even ran the hair clippers over his scalp. Bath tomorrow he said. He has to pace himself now.

Anyway we nipped down to our pharmacy. The doctor on the ward round on Tuesday advised Covid & flu jabs asap - “providing of course you feel well enough.”
He did today and he’s jabbed now.

And can you believe it? Whilst waiting on chairs in the small queue (4 in total) a chap got talking to Himself. He’d overheard the pharmacist when he’d come to shake his hand, delighted to see him “looking so much better than when I saw you a couple of weeks back”.

Himself was telling him about his recent emergency hospital admission “they’ve set me back on track again, for now”.

Well it only turned out that the chap sitting nearby had also been a patient in Christie’s under the care of Professor Mansoor! Oesophageal cancer, five years ago, operated upon and treated - discharged this summer. What an inspirational story. I ‘high fived’ him saying ‘marvellous news’. He’s 67 apparently. Symptoms out of the blue at 62 and as we too got told - “just bad luck”.

You can tell we’re northerners - chatting away like this - no polite ‘no eye contact’ up here!

Then we dived into the Loungers bar for lunch. Veg soup and a slice of toast for Himself, bacon and delicious hot cheese toastie with a flat white for me.

Came back up, meds for Himself and he’s now sat on the sofa snoozing. The hernia belt is amazing! What a huge difference it’s made for his mobility absolutely pain free now.

It’s dry here but chilly out now the sun’s gone in. No need of heating in here yet. The temperature in this apartment is 24°C! We do get any sunshine though behind glass in this main room from 11am onwards.

Cheapskates R Us….

Goodness it’s blustery out there. A noisy start to the day. 🤞 for your flight nannyt.

Yesterday’s trip over the bridge went well once we extracted ourselves from our hometown. It took 40 minutes to drive the two miles to the motorway. After meeting our son all went smoothly, he’s an excellent chauffeur and supportive company. Thank you all for your kind thoughts. The service was excellent, truly captured the spirits of our fiends, a warm, welcoming minister, harmonious Welsh voices and laughter with the sadness. Our friends’ daughter will come and stay once practicalities are settled.

Not the news you’d both hoped for if a sensible decision dragonfly. I’m sorry, you must be disappointed. Hope today brings something positive.

Goodness that wound is taking its time neine. What a nuisance. Hope the antibiotics do their stuff soon.

The belt sounds to truly have worked magic fgt Hope you both could sleep well and today is a more comfortable

Take care everyone. TOYA

Nannytopsy Thu 23-Oct-25 05:30:32

Good morning everyone! ( Am I on the right thread? 🤣) We are 2 hours ahead of you so I expect you are all asleep still. Our suitcases are packed nearly and we fly out this afternoon. The only fly in the ointment is Storm Benjamin and I am hoping our flight isn’t cancelled. Keep your fingers crossed for us please Kitcheners.
I am glad the belt has worked FGT and I hope you both slept well. There are lots of very well fed cats around this hotel Yiayia who tolerate the attentions of the visitors.
Neine glad to see you back - DH is just finishing a course of antibiotics for his ulcers. 🤞yours heals now.

dragonfly46 Wed 22-Oct-25 22:19:49

The consultant came to see DH today and thinks he will be in hospital until next Wednesday. He is finding it difficult to sit in a chair and walk.

So pleased the support is helping your DH FGT. I feel in these troubled times we grasp any positives.

Blossoming Wed 22-Oct-25 20:16:17

Hope the wound continues to heal Neine x

Redcar Wed 22-Oct-25 19:57:04

fgt great that a hernia belt has helped with your DH’s pain, I hope he doesn’t have to wait too long for the hernia to be repaired.
neine the wound is definitely turning into a saga! I hope it heals properly soon. Antibiotics are very useful but they certainly play havoc with our insides don’t they!
Hope your DH will soon be home with you dragonfly
Enjoy the evening everyone.

Naughtyneine Wed 22-Oct-25 19:18:26

I'm creeping in after a prolonged absence...and caught up I think with all the news.
The saga of the wound continues...still strapped up and dressings changed every few days....I know it's healing so have turned down referral to an ulcer clinic. The antibiotics knocked me for six and still having on going after effects coupled with back in the corporate world with smile pinned on.
But all of that is nothing in comparison with the pain and worry of loved ones health of which so many of you are going through... Your sharing of these sad and difficult moments is brave and I feel humbled by your words. What a special place this kitchen is.... always a kind word and real love and care for people we've never met and probably never will.
My love and prayers continue even when I'm absent.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 22-Oct-25 19:00:29

Our GP has said she will refer Himself for hernia repair. His cancer will have to be taken into account. It’s a worrying time (on going really).

That said, a hernia belt has relieved his pain magnificently. He (and I) were amazed and relieved at the difference it has made. One delighted man and his wife this evening.

Ever onwards. x

Blossoming Wed 22-Oct-25 17:20:51

It’s been a pleasant Autumn day here and we have managed two long walks, morning and afternoon, to make the most of the sunshine. It won’t last for long!

I hope today has gone as well as it could Cornergran. Hope you’re feeling better Granmarie and pleased the dentist went well Jaxjacky. So exciting to have a new kitten YiaYia, I look forward to some pics!

Good to know your DH is home with you FGT2 and hope he gets some help with the hernia. Hope your DH is soon home with you too Dragonfly. As always, thinking of theSoops and hope they are snug at home together.

Have booked my next blood tests for 3rd November, I must admit I’m feeling rather apprehensive. Not for the phlebotomist visit, but for the results! So much depends on just one number, I’m doing the best I can to keep well.
TOYA ♥️
