Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Hi from S Hants, it’s been cooler, sun/cloud today - rain on the way.
Grannmarie I'm very sorry about your dear friend, end of a long friendship, hopefully with great memories. I hope you feel better soon too.
Thought of you today corner, a long awaited goodbye 💐
Pleased himself is home and hoping for good news from dragonfly.
Corner and hob cleaned to perfection this morning - not by me! Then a quick ten minutes at the dentist to check all is well, it is, followed by my garden helper with me being ‘not much help at all* cleared weeds and remaining debris. MrJ will scatter manure in the next week.
Have a pleasant evening everyone.

Great news about your wee kitten, YiaYia! 🐈‍⬛

Grannmarie Wed 22-Oct-25 12:10:31

Thank you for your kind wishes, lovely Kitchen ladies. 🥰 I've had lots of ' Get well ' texts and calls from family and friends offering food drop offs etc, but I'm surviving quite happily on cereal, soup and yoghurt. Plenty of paracetamol and honey and lemon. 🤞I'm OK, until I cough...

Very glad to hear that our FGTS are reunited 💕 and that Dragonfly's DH is a bit more comfortable. Thinking often of our dear Soops, and all with illness, worries or sorrow.

My childhood friend, who I visited in hospital on Sunday, has been moved to the High Dependency unit and our PP and Deacon have been in to give her the Sacrament of the Sick. (We don't call it Last Rites anymore). Hoping and praying for her recovery. 🕯🙏

Wishing everyone a peaceful Wednesday, thinking especially of the Corners, what a very sad day for both of them. 🕯💐

Life is busy for us.DH is waiting for an infusion.then see the liver consultant on the 4th November. He continues to get on with his life dispite being catheterised and also having a hernia. Can’t be fixed with surgery as yet.The support for the hernia helps a lot FGT worth asking your GP.

We are excited “Spiros”the kitten is getting the very last flight to the U.K on the 31st.🤞It’s a lot of paperwork and money🤣but looking forward to having him.I’m kitten shopping at the moment.Have a good day all.

I’m so pleased that your DH is home with you fgt and hope that your gp can arrange for the hernia to be sorted out quickly.
cornergran thinking of you today and hope you have a safe journey over the bridge. I also hope that the weather is dry at least for you.
dragonfly I hope that your DH continues to improve and will soon be home with you.
blossoming I love your extra extra long parka, you look very smart. Good you are able to enjoy your walks whatever the weather.
Thoughts as ever to the soops and wishing them well.
I’ve had a walk this morning, saw no-one though, the weather’s getting colder so some of the dogs are getting shorter walks now!.

I have just caught up with your post FGT and I am so pleased your DH is safely home. I hope the hernia is fixed soon with the least amount of stress.

My DH was a little better yesterday and happy to see his sister.

I hope your day goes as well as possible Corner.

Late night visit to the kitchen for me. Fgt your dear man and you are often in my thoughts. I hope you both have a restful night. Cornergran I wish you strength for tomorrow. A sad day ahead for you. Grannmarie covid seems to have a resurgence. Lots of fluids and rest for you..
Today has been a good day. I went to bed fairly early but got up for a cuppa and a slice of toast and ended up watching an interesting documentary about the writer, Frederick Forsyth. Back to bed and I'll read for a bit. Night all.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 21-Oct-25 22:48:38

Hello kitchen people.

Yes the Soops! I pray they’re doing well and enjoying marathon games of Scrabble.

So glad you’re back together FGTS2. There really is no place like home.

OH and I watched the final episode of Nine Bodies in a Mexican morgue, (BBC IPlayer). Highly recommended.

Sleep 💤 tight,

cornergran Tue 21-Oct-25 22:45:54

You look very snug blossoming. Good to see you on your walks.

It’s been a chilly, damp day here. Not one for enjoying being outside. We cleaned this morning, halo polishing here, 😇 after lunch headed out for a short shop wander and a long coffee shop visit, there may have been cake. A non stressful day other than a fight with a seemingly unreasonably complex financial computer system eventually managing to settle two maturing isas. Is there a reason it’s so difficult?

Thankfully the forecast is for dry weather tomorrow. We’ll be heading over the bridge for the joint funeral of our two friends. It’s been a long while coming and I’m sure there are many like myself who will welcome the opportunity to say a goodbye. It’s been a long limbo time.

Oh dear granmarie, covid corner is not the place you want to be. Sending get well wishes.

Your visitors wont wan to leave brook, your menus sound great

I’m hoping your much loved husband is now comfortably at home with you fgt. Love to you both. Also to the soops who are in my thoughts.

Time for sleep, or an attempt at it. Goodnight everyone . Sleep tight.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 21-Oct-25 22:37:07

Home just after 9:30pm. Traffic light of course.
Himself is asleep now beside me.

I’ve set out his morning meds. This hernia is a bugger. Poor man, holding his groin walking through the hospital. I could tell it was giving him gyp.

Fortunately our GP is scheduled to ring us tomorrow and we can discuss our options for an urgent referral for repair.

He has enough to deal with having cancer without pain/movement affecting his QoL.

I will enquire tomorrow about a truss/belt thing so he can strap one on.

Got my mug of peppermint tea, it’s late. Night everyone and as always, thank you for your good wishes.

Dragonfly I hope things are smoother tonight for your husband.

And thoughts fly as always on this thread to the soops. x

gillgran Tue 21-Oct-25 22:19:23

Sorry, I've just been catching up with all you good folk in the kitchen.

Your dear husband will be so relieved to be home with you FGT.
Thinking of you, also of our dear Soops, & all here, especially those with extra worries.

Lovely, heartfelt quotes from both FGT and SueDonim. xx

Usedtobeblonde Tue 21-Oct-25 22:15:44

I made a real hash of my meal tonight involving Bolognaise sauce and Orzo, I will say no more except I had cheese on toast and it was very nice.
Sleeep well everyone.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 21-Oct-25 22:13:19

Dragonfly
I hope your H is feeling better today and that he is progressing well and like your wish for FGT that he will soon be home with you.

dragonfly46 Tue 21-Oct-25 21:51:28

I hope your DH is safely home FGT

Grannmarie Tue 21-Oct-25 18:56:44

Good evening from Covid Corner. 😭 Another night of painful coughing so I tested again and it's definitely positive. I'm in my Oodie with the heating turned up, just had a nice mug of soup and a sandwich, certainly don't feel like cooking. Just hoping and praying that I haven't infected anyone on my travels, I've spread the word to all I've been in contact with.

Delighted to hear that Himself is coming to to FGTS TLC, wishing them peaceful days ahead.

Hope you feel better soon and enjoy your evening out, Jaxjacky.

Lovely photo Blossoming!

I read this today. It’s so true I think:

“When you’re in good health you have one hundred problems. When you’re ill, you only have one.”

Jaxjacky Tue 21-Oct-25 17:27:45

Does the job a treat Blossoming all we’ve had today is a little drizzle, but we’re on a warning Thursday, heavy rain and wind.
Quiz last night was so near but…one question, or rather our answer, kept us out of a place.
A mildly upset tum this afternoon has kept me indoors, most unusual for me.
We have the AGM tonight of Good Neighbours, both MrJ and I volunteer for them, hope tum ok for that.
Hopefully himself is home now with his beloved and the soops are similarly ensconced.

Good evening Kitcheners. The weather has been dreadful today but we have still managed both a morning and an evening walk. During our last decluttering I discovered a lovely Lands End extra long parka that I had forgotten I owned. It was in a storage bag at the back of a cupboard, today being dreich was the perfect opportunity to wear it. On me it’s extra extra long and finishes a few inches above my ankles grin. So I was nice and warm and dry. Despite the foul weather we’re enjoying getting out and about. I’m aware that I am very lucky indeed to be in this position now.

Thinking of all in the quiet corner, hoping to hear some good news from FGT2 ♥️

Grran Mon 20-Oct-25 22:27:13

Sending love to the FGTs and the SOOPS and everyone else struggling at the moment.
May you find peace in your hearts. Iwill keep you in mine x

I’ve not been her at all for a few days and I’m so sorry that I missed FGT’s news in particular. From earlier on this year, I can imagine the ward exactly as FGT describes it. That is such a vivid picture you paint, FGT. I hope your beloved is showing signs of improvement and that you are given the reserves of strength needed to get through this. flowers

I’m sorry to read of so many others dealing with sadness. An old saying just came into my mind and I looked it up - Into each life some rain must fall. It’s from a poem by Longfellow called The Rainy Day*. He himself endured tragedy in his life so sadly knew of what he wrote.

*Later incorporated into a song by Ella Fitzgerald. The remembering of the saying has led me down a path of discovery today.

Take care of yourselves, dear Kitchen people. Xxx

Good friends of my parents lived in Lytham St Anne’s and we used to visit them and their three boys. I remember being left for an impromptu few days and then being collected. They had amazing tortoises!
