Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Hello kitchen people. Just a quick visit. I’m Shattered.

Daughter has gone back to London so it’s just me and OH. Next weekend my sister and brother in law are staying before flying back to Australia. They’ve had a nearly 6-week trip so far travelling around Europe.

Sleep 💤 tight. Special thoughts to the Soops and the FGT2S.

I am back half an hour ago from visiting the friend I usually share a Chinese takeaway with.
I just didn’t fancy one today so ate at home and went after my meal.
We shared a bottle of nice red (Shiraz if you are interested) and set the world to rights, we are very good at that.
My GD and her BF took me and fetched me back which was very kind of them.
When I came out of her bungalow it was raining steadily which surprised me.
Now hoping for a decent night’s sleep, I took a Nytol last night and slept quite well however after wine I can’t take one so will just hope for the best.
I hope you all have the best night you can and as always thinking of our poorlies and their carers.

A similar day here grandmabatty, it’s rained all afternoon so not been outside much although I got the bedding dried this morning. I collected an order from M&S, I ordered navy blue new trousers in exactly the same size as a black pair I’ve already got, but the sizing is completely different so they’ll have to go back - so frustrating! I did a few bargain buys on Vinted, it’s always a bit of a risk but keeping fingers crossed
The paneer curry is almost ready and smells delish 😋

Grandmabatty Sat 27-Sept-25 17:50:35

Such lovely photos yiayia. Have a great time. It's cold and raining here. I had a nice catch up with my friend this morning and a tasty breakfast. I managed a quick trip to Aldi before I met her, stripped the bed and it's all washed and dried. I've put autumn bedding on now. This afternoon I've pottered about. I read for a while and ordered trousers and jumpers from Marks, so an expensive day for me. Dinner will be mince pie, mash and probably beans. Have a lovely evening Kitcheners.

brook2704 Sat 27-Sept-25 17:43:33

Lovely pictures yia thank you for sharing, I hope you both enjoy your time away together and the warm sunshine

I finally went to the garden centre this morning, I’d been thinking of going for some weeks. Got some more compost, some violas to put in a pot with some daffodil bulbs and some cyclamen plants in a bowl. They seemed a lot more expensive this year than last, but are pretty.
I planted up the bulbs and violas, one more thing ticked off the list.
It was very grey and cool here and I wasn’t encouraged to do anything else outside. I’d done some washing and dried it indoors as there was very little wind outside. Ironing tomorrow!
blossoming well done for trying communal living, lovely that Mr B visited twice!

brook I usually do a little of DD1’s housework while I’m keeping the dog company. Sometimes there’s a lot I can do, other times not so much. I often end up sorting out huge piles of clean washing and put away when I can.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner and hoping that life will become less difficult for them soon. Also thinking of soop and the fgts.
I’m going to bed now, night night everyone.

brook2704 Fri 26-Sept-25 22:04:00

Thank you Aldom 👍

Aldom Fri 26-Sept-25 20:03:39

Brook Paneer curry is my favourite.

brook2704 Fri 26-Sept-25 19:38:36

So good to hear you’ve had such an enjoyable day socialising Blossoming, it makes such a difference being amongst friends. Your DH sounds like a lovely kind man too
A busy day here, volunteering at the hospital this morning then onto DD2s to help out with a few jobs. Mainly just tidying the children’s bedrooms - I shouldn’t have to do it I know but they’re so untidy! Put a bit of washing away, emptied the dishwasher and hovered up. It was lovely to see the DGC , both seem happy at school which is one less worry. Especially for DGD who had a tough time last year but she changed schools after they moved house so that seems to have helped.
Thanks for your info on the paneer, Jax, Blossoming & grandmabatty I think it’ll have to be used up in a veggie curry tomorrow
Sounds like there’s been some very busy kitcheners today, I’ll have to get on with my own jobs tomorrow
Fgt hope you've both had a good day
Thinking of our Soop and hope all is well, have a lovely evening everyone and take care x

Blossoming Fri 26-Sept-25 18:49:23

Good evening lovely Kitcheners. Today I joined in with a game called ‘Play Your Cards Right’ that’s a regular monthly event for the residents of the nursing home. Organised games are not really my thing, but I could see that the residents were looking forward to it and I wanted to be sociable. It was hilarious but used a very large television screen complete with flickering lights and very loud! My head was ready to explode when I headed back to the peace and quiet of my room and a big mug of tea brought to me by one of the carers. I’m not sure I’m ready for communal living just yet. I can see why the residents appreciate having this sort of activity laid on for them though.
MrB has been to see me twice, morning and afternoon. I love that man ♥️

Goodnight, TOYA

Grandmabatty Fri 26-Sept-25 18:46:50

FGT 😂. My daughter has that as her doormat. She's been feeding me this week for some reason. She handed in homemade macaroni cheese and it was delicious. That was in addition to the tomato and red pepper soup earlier in the week. Jaxjacky such self discipline! Well done for avoiding the cake

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Sept-25 18:32:31

Very good FGT 😏
Excellent news on the stairlift Blossoming reassuring for you both.
I’ve had a busy day, picked up Imogen, went to stretch class, met Imogen and a friend in the local for McMillan coffee and cake, no cake for me, diet, took MrJ a piece, then ran Imogen home.
Three phone calls made, one chasing money which was successful, Tesco delivered, then pub, a pint of lime and soda not as good as my shandy.
MrJ has gone to bowls, he’s eaten, I’ll have a ham salad with a jacket.
It’s been grey and chilly today.
Have a pleasant evening all.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 26-Sept-25 18:15:39

I saw a doormat in the block today at their front door and it made me laugh.

It said “Welcome-ISH. Depends on who you are and how long you are staying”.

Nannytopsy Fri 26-Sept-25 17:21:27

I had a visit from my lady gardener this morning and we spent 3 hours weeding and digging things up. Quite a few things died over the hot summer and others were dug up and split. Some got potted on, others will be done tomorrow now that I have a new bag of compost. This afternoon was the foothills of the ironing mountain. Barely at base camp yet!
I hope there has been plenty of activity in the kitchen and that our poorly Kitcheners have been comfortable.

Grandmabatty Fri 26-Sept-25 16:53:19

Blossoming it's good that the stairlift is on progress. It'll help with your independence. Redcar I hope you are relaxing today after your busy day yesterday. Brook I'm interested to know what you used the paneer for! I've only ever seen it mentioned in Indian cookery.
Today I have been a busy little housewife. I did an hour in the school library then home. I've done three washes and changed my summer dressing gown for my winter one. I've cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, polished and hoovered and washed the windows and mirrors. I've also done half an hour of Spanish so a very productive day for me. I hope you all have had a good day.

Redcar Thu 25-Sept-25 21:29:11

I’m home now after a day’s dogminding, then child minding when they came home from school. The children were very good, no bickering for a change. They did their homework without any problem and got themselves ready for bed, in time for their mum and dad to oversee bedtime when they got home. Driving home in the dark wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be- the first time since last winter! A lovely day here, but cool in the shade.

blossoming I’m glad that the stairlift is on its way and will be ready for you in three weeks time. Good that you are comfortable and content in the nursing home.

Night night everyone, sleep well.

Blossoming Thu 25-Sept-25 20:23:23

Good evening all. The stairlift is in progress, should be ready in time for me coming home in 3 weeks. Meantime this is a lovely comfortable place to be and I am content.

I hope that nasty wound is soon healed Neine.
I think your stepfather may have had a lucky escape FGT, it’s awful how these scammers deliberately target vulnerable elderly people, but your stepfather has people who care about him taking an interest.
Paneer is an Indian cottage cheese Brook. I’ve had vegetarian dishes where paneer has been used instead of meat. I’ve never cooked with it though.
Goodnight all, sleep tight xx

Jaxjacky Thu 25-Sept-25 18:49:29

I posted earlier, it disappeared..
No idea brook but I think it’s usually used in Asian recipes - good luck!
We went to my brothers and his wife today for lunch which ended up very late, we do like a chat and our trip to Granny’s stomping ground encouraged memory lane.
It’s been a glorious day, washing dried a treat, cooling down now though.
I hope utbb has had a better day and that nasty cut sorted for neine.
Better safe than… FGT.

brook2704 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:15:41

Hoping that heals soon for you neine take care. Also well done with being very gracious and forgiving (and not boring at all)
Very sensible fgt you never know …
Hoping all kitchen pals are doing ok today, it’s a lovely sunny afternoon here in Inverness. Anyone know what to do with a packet of Paneer as DH bought it today thinking it was goats cheese 🤷‍♀️ We’re having a risotto type thing this evening, another new recipe but goodness knows how it’ll turn out, we’re having to substitute Philadelphia for the goats cheese ….. we’ll just have to open a bottle of wine and it’ll be fine!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:02:17

FGT2 sounds like your stepfather has made a sensible decision.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Sept-25 17:01:48

Ooh aah naughtyneine be careful, you do not want it to get infected.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 25-Sept-25 16:49:03

A little update about the tv offer re filming at my stepfather’s garden. I was telling Himself’s brothers about it today and a discussion ensued. Just to let you all know he’s decided against doing this.

As he said it’s “not worth the risk” as one of my brothers in law said “don’t let him pass across any of his bank details - they may SAY it’s to pay a fee in, but it could be to remove money if it’s a scam”.

Plus, on further thinking about it, it was type printed onto a sheet of plain A4 paper - no official business header 🤔 - just a name, a mobile phone number and an email address. Could be any bod so that might have been a red flag? better safe than sorry. There are so many scams about and some (maybe even this one?) are unusual and clever. 🤷‍♀️

Grandmadinosaur Thu 25-Sept-25 14:15:11

That looks very nasty Neine glad you’re being well treated for it. Take care.

RosesandLilac Thu 25-Sept-25 12:26:56

Ouch Neine, I too have fragile skin like yours.
I use hydrocolloid plasters (like Compeed) on my skin tears, they heal well.
