Hello Kitcheners- hope you don't mind and apologies if a new kitchen has already been opened elsewhere but I couldn't find it if there has... I've done my best but it still needs a few throws and cushions to make it more homely, ready for the nights drawing in and chillier evenings. Some freshly baked scones, jam and cream on the side if you fancy a treat.
I hope you dont think it presumptious of me to start this kitchen as I don't post as regularly as some of you but do find Soops Kitchen a lovely place to drop into even if I've nothing to say.

Thank you for the update fgt. It sounds as if you’ve both been able to relax a bit and enjoy socialising. A special time. Wishing your husband a positive visit to Christie’s.

It’s pouring now after a mild, sunny day which foolishly I saw little of. You know how a quick job turns into a whole day? I really should have had a walk first! Then how the phone doesn’t stop ringing? A conspiracy. grin.

An early night is called for here. Night night everyone. Sleep well.

Jaxjacky Thu 13-Nov-25 21:19:10

Sorry it didn’t take two years, my mistake, 6 months.

‘Evening All’

Things are smooth (even good) here lately. Himself has gained 9lbs in weight (very much needed) since his last clinic appointment & chemotherapy nearly 3 weeks ago. He’s on a reducing dose of steroids which obviously play a big part but I have to have hope in my heart that the treatment might be helping too? 🤞

We met up with his brothers and their wives today. It gave us such a boost to chat and laugh together. Small pleasures that we derive huge enjoyment from these days. We don’t take anything for granted any more.

Back to Christie’s next week for bloods and clinic and hopefully if deemed suitable, more iv chemo.

Thanks everyone for your kindness in mentioning us and wishing us well. It means a lot to me. Sincerely so. xx

Good you’re improving Grannmarie 👍.
I ‘lost’ a ring one GrannySomerset drying them on a paper towel that was binned, recovered it after I’d backtracked.
I hope brook is in Vienna having a great time.
A quiet day, a little local shopping then, ordered a couple of Christmas presents and researched a couple of items that’ll go on my wish list.
Our grandson has been granted his EHCP, it’s taken nearly two years, relief all round.

Redcar Thu 13-Nov-25 20:10:25

Feeling a bit better today thank goodness. The only solution to my osteoporosis is stronger, more modern medication that encourages new bone to grow, most seem to involve injecting myself! But the gp can’t prescribe those, only the hospital.
I changed the duvet cover this morning, always a struggle, washed it and tumbled it dry. Sadly I can’t reach the top line on the whirly line in the garden, and it won’t go any lower. I think I’ve shrunk a bit more.
I deadheaded the dahlias, but didn’t cut them back. I don’t lift them for the winter and so far they’ve survived, about 5 years now.
Good news that your dgs’s arm is healing well geamdmabatty, it’s quite likely that dgs1 is feeling a bit left out at the moment with his brother getting a lot of attention.
grannysomerset I do hope your wedding ring turns up soon.
I did a little ironing too, I have to do it in 15 minute sessions before having a rest, it’s slow but gets done eventually.
I’m pleased your trip to Lakeside was successful grannygravy I haven’t been there since I lost my DH nearly five years ago. Too much traffic for me now and the DDs feel the same!

Thinking of the soops and the fgts and anyone else suffering troubling times.

GrannySomerset Thu 13-Nov-25 18:45:53

Still looking for the lost ring, St Anthony and St Jude having failed to deliver. Seriously wondering if I have Borrowers - but what would they do with a wide gold ring with our initials and the wedding date engraved inside? Thanks for all the suggestions, all and any gratefully received.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 13-Nov-25 18:36:08

I had a successful solo shopping trip today, only need to get a couple of main presents for two GC.

No doubt I will buy more bits and bobs if I see them (I am a Christmas person 🎄)

Good news Naughtyneine

Pleased your GS is improving Grandmabatty

Thinking of our dear soop

Grandmabatty Thu 13-Nov-25 18:22:48

I read back my message Grannmarie. I meant celebrate your big birthday. Not losing the much loved pets. Sorry.

Grandmabatty Thu 13-Nov-25 18:21:13

Good evening Kitcheners. Neine it's good that your leg is improving. Granny Somerset it'll turn up when you least expect it to. Grannmarie such sad news about the pets. I hope you have a lovely get together and celebrate. Redcar do they have any solutions for your back?
Today dgs2 went into nursery no bother. His mummy picked him up to take to hospital. His break is healing well and the incision is very neat. He has a new stookie which is black. He wanted a purple one but they had run out 😂 I think they don't do them in his size. Dgs1 is in the bad books at school. He's being silly and misbehaving. I suspect mum and dad will remove all screen privileges for a week. I think he's acting out as his little brother is getting all the attention at the moment.
I tidied up the kitchen this morning. It needed it. Then ordered a birthday present for dgs2 for next week. I did a small ironing too. Tonight I'm doing very little. Dinner will be gammon, mashed potatoes and broccoli, cabbage and peas. Yum. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners

Grannmarie Thu 13-Nov-25 16:32:31

👋 Hello, everyone, just popping in to say that I'm trying to keep up with your news and I'm thinking of you all. Best wishes to all on their travels, peace of mind to all with worries, good care and comfort to all the sick, especially our dear Soops and FGTs.

I'm beginning to feel a good bit better now, more awake in the daytime, less coughing. I have a family gathering for my landmark birthday approaching very soon, I need to be fit! Thankfully I don't have to lift a finger, family are doing everything. I just couldn't get my head round a special occasion like this without DH, but I'll be surrounded by close family so I'll smile and get through it. I'm very grateful. 🙏❤️

*DSIS2 '*s old rescue cat 🐈‍⬛was PTS yesterday, poor boy he just kept collapsing, and she wouldn't let him suffer. I can't believe that my brother and sister have lost their beloved family pets in the same week. So sad. 😢

Wishing everyone a peaceful Thursday evening. TOYA.

Redcar Wed 12-Nov-25 21:40:50

I’m hoping that St Anthony will give you inspiration as to where your wedding ring is granny somerset and that it turns up soon.
Good that your leg is finally healing neine. One of my neighbours sells a lot of honey and bee related products from her front garden and also posts in the local facebook page advertising the honey llfl and she seems to sell a lot of it. It probably helps that she’s on a main road with a lay-by outside the house.
I had quite a long (for me) walk today as I had to collect my meds from the pharmacy, then walked to the post office to post some letters (admin for my godmother’s estate) and then home. I get slower as I get nearer home, I haven’t been walking much recently because of my back and it will take a while to get back to normal again.
Time for bed I think - night night everyone.

Nannytopsy Wed 12-Nov-25 21:23:06

GrannyS might it be inside a glove? Do you wash up in rubber gloves?

Jaxjacky Wed 12-Nov-25 20:35:53

Oh no GrannySomerset I’ll be sending out for St Anthony too, I can understand your upset.
corner if the optician can help and it’s viable I’d go for it, I live reading and your experience sounds very awkward.
Good luck with the honey llfl local honey is very popular near us.
Great news about your leg neine.
Today I introduced MrJ to the library, with a broadly similar taste in books he’s previously read mine, by the time I’d chosen 6 he was still standing transfixed. The choice had bamboozled him. A couple of yours look fine’ he said, bidding a hasty retreat.
I could list what I didn’t do after that, but it’s tedious, the boiler was serviced today, so something important was done ✅
A wave to the poorlies, in particular our benefactor who I hope is comfortable 👋👋x

cornergran Wed 12-Nov-25 20:06:54

St Anthony helped me find something precious this morning grannysomerset. Truly hope you find your ring soon, no wonder you’re upset.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 12-Nov-25 19:18:36

Dear St Anthony full of grace, lead me to its hiding place 🙏

Hope this helps GrannySomerset

Grandmabatty Wed 12-Nov-25 19:06:39

Granny Somerset, I think it's either St Antony or St Jude. I hope you find it ❤️

GrannySomerset Wed 12-Nov-25 19:00:40

Have spent the day and most of last night trying to find my wedding ring. I only noticed it was missing when I sat down yesterday evening and am quite baffled about how on earth I can have lost it. The contents of the dustbin, recycling box and garden waste bin have all been searched thoroughly, every drawer and cupboard used yesterday investigated and still no sign. As the last tangible link with DH it was more than precious and I am tearful in a way which is rare. Who is the patron saint of lost things? That seems like my only hope.

Naughtyneine Wed 12-Nov-25 11:59:58

Redcar...no wonder you were in so much pain. I hope they can adjust your meds to stop any more fractures.
Brooke.. Have a wonderful time in Vienna..will the Christmas Markets be on? If I remember they are held at the Summer palace which was easy to get to on a tram.
Yia... Fingers crossed that you get an appointment very soon, I'm dreading not being able to drive for 6 weeks after my op. Like you DH is very happy to drive with his Sat Nag beside him but it's not the same as jumping into the car is it?
Blossoming, could a dietician give you some advice on juggling the two issues? I hope so as you've tried so hard to be well again.Keep enjoying your walks.

Corner, good luck with new glasses, do you have Costco membership as they have a good optical department too.

GG13... You will be glad to have it all finished ...what colour have you chosen?

LLFL....I really feel for you, the thought of the prep is almost worse than the actual procedure but if it's going to reassure you that all is well it will be worth it. Maybe book yourself something nice for afterwards...a trip to an art gallery etc.
Granmarie...I hope you are feeling a bit better as the days go on...it's a miserable time of year to be poorly. I've succumbed to the cold that is doing the rounds...so not much will be done for a couple of days ( at least).

FGT and Soop, love and prayers.

Grandmabatty...I hope your leg is less painful now and your little DGS is getting on ok back at nursery, how long is the cast on?
My leg is almost healed...7 weeks now but at least I avoided having to attend an ulcer clinic. I'm not sure what they actually do but wasn't too keen to find out so stuck religiously to changing the dressing etc.

Jax...we had those high winds too...the weather app said gusty winds...it felt a lot more than gusty even through the thick stone walls. I hate this time of year....roll on February.

We thought we’d try selling honey from home:

Usedtobeblonde

I don’t know where my “nerdy nose” came from!!

When I had a skin cancer removed from my nose I looked like a battered wife! I cancelled several things for a couple of weeks

Usedtobeblonde Wed 12-Nov-25 10:39:19

I don’t know where my “nerdy nose” came from!!

Usedtobeblonde Wed 12-Nov-25 10:38:00

Good morning all.
A cooler and damp day today.
I have just tidied round for my friend up the road to visit this afternoon for coffee and cake.
She has started providing cake when I go to her so I am reciprocating today with a lime cream cake from Sainsbury’s , I hope it is good.
I am having a week in this week, not that I go out much ,but my nose with the treatment for the sun damage is really not nice looking and I am very self conscious about it.
It is nerdy red and sore looking.I googled to see if it is following the effects I am experiencing and found out it is chemotherapy cream I am using.
I look forward to the next couple of weeks being over.
I hope our poorlies and their devoted carers are doing ok and finding some comfort in their days.
Off now to see if the washing machine has done its job and get the tumble dryer going while trying not to think of the cost.

Nannytopsy Wed 12-Nov-25 09:25:03

Morning everyone. Still in my nightie and DH is snoring … He didn’t have a good night, so I am trying not to wake him.
As there is plenty of wet weather forecast, I cut our grass yesterday afternoon. It was very long and isn’t a lovely bowling green but at least it is done! The washing dried too, so now it’s just the ironing. Perhaps I will go down and do that.
I hope you all have the best day possible

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 11-Nov-25 23:17:16

Hello kitchen people.

A very quiet day. Laundry, reading and that’s about it.

So, sleep 💤 tight all of you, especially the worried and concerned amongst us all.

cornergran Tue 11-Nov-25 22:46:04

The only negative consequence seems to be to my pocket jax. The objection has been that as my eye will, hopefully, improve I’d be wasting the opticians time and my money. I’m happy to talk to the optician (who saw the anomaly first and referred me) and if she’s OK with doing it sort out reading glasses as best we can. I think it’s simply that my eyes are unbalanced, one is much better than the other for near sight. I can see well to read with either eye, just not both together. As the family say I’m always awkward!

I’m sure you’ve thought of this blossoming but I wonder if a nutritionist appointment could be useful to help balance. It sounds as if there’s a narrow path to tread. I love seeing the photos from your walks. My sort of place.

Night night everyone. Sleep well m
