Two teenagers 18 and 19 have been charged with the cyber attack on TFL.
These are obviously two clever boys, what a shame they didn’t use their skills to gain a good degree and go on to have a worthwhile career.

They are part of a group called Scattered Spider which is responsible for the cyber attacks on the Co-op, Harrods and Marks and Spencer.

Perhaps the Government should employ them as cyber spies.

MI5/MI6 are currently advertising on the dark web for spies around the globe 😹

They do it because they can; little sense of responsibility etc..
The genie is well and truly out of the bottle.

I don’t condone their actions; however, if teenagers can get into company servers, then so can malign foreign actors. TFL; Marks&Spencers; the Coop and JLR should see these attacks as wake up calls.

Just to mention one key risk that very few people talk about/acknowledge. Many of us now have smart electricity meters with built in remote disconnection. If someone was clever enough to bypass the layered security, and remotely disconnect 100k+s of meters in one location in one attack it could cause massive long-term damage to the National Grid. The Grid requires 2 things for stability - Voltage and Frequency. The shutting down of coal and gas power stations has increased the Grid instability risk. Think of Spain and Portugal. Even GCHQ believes that remote disconnection is a possibility.

It follows that the more minor attacks our systems get the better. Hopefully, these attacks will lead to better security and back up systems. Most security minded companies will be paying someone to attack their servers (albeit, in a controlled way).

One informed commentator did say recently that companies these days are more focussed on the preventing the loss of personal data rather than on business continuity and that this attitude has to change.

Last year my DH and I booked a short break at a top class hotel. On the Saturday night the restaurant was absolutely heaving and they had packed in extra tables. The noise level was horrendous. To make matters worse, on the next table to us was a couple who appeared to be on a first date via Tindle or similar. We gathered this from their conversation (or should I say her monologue)! She had the loudest voice I’ve ever heard as if she was talking through a megaphone, easily heard above the general cacophony in the room. All through the meal she gave him, and all around her, a running commentary of her life story, never once stopping to ask him anything about himself. Bless him, he sat there like a rabbit in the headlights. Eventually they finished their meal and he got a word in to suggest that they ask for the bill. After they’d gone my DH said ‘I hope she makes that worth it for him later’!Why do some people have no consideration for others? Needless to say we ate elsewhere the following night.

Often happens, doesnt it.

They need the best ones.
Rather than the opposition, whoever they are.
