Good Morning from a sunny Co Armagh, I haven’t ventured out yet but I’m told it’s 13 deg
Popped into MxS for a click and collect , and was tempted to get a few things for the freezer
So my efforts to save postage cost me over £50 🙄
Taking it easy today
I don’t post every day , but I seem to have missed something, not to worry we all like different experiences

Good Morning Tuesday 23rd September 2025
(48 Posts)Good Morning Everyone ,
A dark but dry start here in Brackley this morning.
Once I have had my breakfast , I usually watch Breakfast TV on the beeb ,just recently a familiar face as been on it Emma Vardy , she worked for BBC South Oxford some years ago and interviewed me in relation to a pub reopening , my bit was not shown.
Usual routine m Bus to Bicester ,shop and chat to people I know.
Health OK ,
Take Care,
Mick
Late to the party again after visit from the chiropodist and then two long phone calls. We look to have a week of fine weather ahead of us so the garden will take priority along with laundry to take advantage of outdoor drying. Need to plan bulb planting more carefully as I bought too many tulips last year (can you have too many tulips?) and so had everything flowering together instead of staggered over the spring months. Less emotion and more thought required.
1 seemed to have missed something, not too surprising nowadays, but I wasn’t aware that whywhywhy was so unhappy it has led to her leaving Gransnet. I’m not sure what the problem was but I just want to wish her all the best.
Good morning Mick and everyone. It’s another beautiful sunny morning here in Lancashire. I achieved a major step forward today by getting a shower all by myself. It’s an en-suite wet room, very well equipped but not a ‘disabled’ shower, so no grab rails or shower seat. The flooring and room layout are excellent though, I took my walker in with me in case I felt wobbly but it was fine, and felt so good.
Have a lovely Tuesday 😎
Good morning from chilly but bright South Lanarkshire. Those pictures were a delight to see peli and GrannyIvy, they seem to have cheered everyone up!
Lots of autumn colours on the trees around here now but the temperature is so variable it’s hard to know what to wear.
Lovely to read that your family are so involved and supportive of plans for the future Gingster, you sound very positive and upbeat!
I have quite a bit of organising over the next few days and I had better get started, I’m going to Sicily next week with my sister and brother in law and very much looking forward to it but seem to be incapable of making decisions and packing.
When I think of taking 5 children on camping holidays abroad I wonder If I am the same person! Actually I suppose I’m not🥺
I was glad to read a couple of weeks ago how much you like Sicily Bellasnana, it’s a new place for me.
Wishing everyone the best day possible x
Good morning from dry and bright South Lanarkshire. It’s a beautiful start to the day.
This is my charity shop day, followed by yarn group this evening. Sods Law that they ended up being on the same day, not ideal as I admit to being tired after my shift in the shop.
DH is planning on painting the ceiling in the downstairs loo, as well as the door. I’m quite pleased that I won’t be here.
I hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
Good morning from a dry and sunny NE.
Heating is on permanently now, definitely autumn.
Nothing planned for today as I got all the washing and ironing done yesterday.
Pleased you are home kitty, there is nothing like your own bed after being in hospital.
SIL is travelling home to Brussels today.
Susan sorry to read about DDs FIL
Nannyjan what a sad shock for your group
I posted far far to soon about my abilities to get an orthopaedic appointment in less than 24 hours it has been cancelled!!!! As with half the population it seems I am going to have to find an answer myself.
Morning Mick, morning All. A sunny start to our day
Meeting friends for lunch today, otherwise no plans.
Thoughts are with all managing challenges
Have the best day you can everyone.
Morning from asunny, chill S Hants.
Great pictures Peli and GrannyIvy thank you.
You’re going through a rough patch Susan56 💐
Fingers crossed those plans all come to fruition * Gingster*
Yesterday the voluntary phone was steadily busy, all lifts sorted by 6:30’ish, then updated the spreadsheet. Quiz was not good for our team, but as usual we enjoyed ourselves for a couple of hours.
Walk today around a country park, roast chicken for dinner.
🦩🦩
Good morning everyone from a cloudy Northampton; hopefully it will brighten up especially as I have a load of washing to hang out shortly.
Yesterday was glorious, the grass dried up nicely and I got the back grass cut after lunch. The foxes seem to be leaving the holes alone in my lawn, but I despair as they have done so much damage which seems unfixable. It is very lumpy and uneven with lots of bare patches. Perhaps just ignore it over winter and it might fix itself!
After cutting the grass I did a bit of pruning and tidying, including squeezing behind a big forsythia to remove the ivy which was threatening to invade the garage roof. The gardeners who came 10 days ago didn't do it, even though I had asked them - they said it was too difficult to get at! I shan't be using them again.... The downside was that I dropped.my secateurs into the depths of the forsythia and my arms aren't long enough to reach them! Still, I have a spare pair.
Yoga seemed very hard work yesterday, lots of unusual poses and movements, and I kept having to look up to see exactly what our teacher meant. Still, it meant that I enjoyed our coffee afterwards all the more than usual.
Hoping to be out with my walking group after lunch; then a chicken soup to make with the leftovers from Sunday's roast chicken.
So much sad news on the thread this morning; a difficult time for many of us.
Wishing everyone a better day.
Good morning from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast.
I really enjoyed Downton at the cinema yesterday, although I felt rather chilly. I wish I didn’t feel the cold so much. The scenes were so pretty, I felt like pausing the screen as I do at home, to take in the details of the costumes etc. Of course it’s a sugar coated version of life for servants then, but very enjoyable.
Then I dropped off some jumble at the charity shop and had a quiet day.
This afternoon to the music club. Haven’t decided on my songs yet, but will warm my recalcitrant voice up beforehand.
Still no plumber, but decorator tomorrow.
I’m sorry whywhywhy feels unhappy about Gransnet🤔. I hope you make a full recovery kitty, all the best for your tooth karma and thoughts to all 🌺
Good morning from a cooler Black Country.
Such a shock yesterday after our Monday morning walk. One of our ladies didn't turn up which isn't unusual. We had a message on the WhatsApp group from her husband to tell us she had collapsed Friday morning and was unable to be revived. Only knew her to have the odd chat on our walks, but so sad. I think she was 79.
Over to Mums today to take her food shopping, then back to finish packing. We leave for the Airport at 4am tomorrow. Skiathos bound!
Glad to hear you are home kitty hope MrKitty is looking after you well.
Wishing you all the best day possible
Good morning all and it’s bright but chilly here in Essex. Heating has come on again.
Yesterday was a very good day with DS2 here . We made some good decisions that needed to be sorted and I’m quite excited for the future. Lots of ‘work’ involved but will be worth it.
DS1 coming in tonight to be updated . Dd away , so will be informed when she gets home. A lot of worry has lifted so 🙏🤞 all goes according to plan.
Today I have a pedicure booked and then Bridge this afternoon.
Beautiful pic of the tiny hummingbird Peli Thankyou.
Lovely flowers Grannyivy.
Hope everyone on holiday has a great time.
Best of luck for appointments and I hope poorlies feel better today. 🌻
ladyleftfieldlover the pain is as expected from this dental procedure and it can take up to 4 months for the pulp to heal. I do have constant communication with my dentist, who is a relative.
I am a stoic and have just taken a certain homeopathic remedy with almost immediate good effects. It is down to me now, resting to allow healing and not letting cold air or drink or food into my mouth. I think another two weeks will see a difference in pain. A hot pack helps when the pain is suddenly acute as does a warm woollen shawl around my mouth. I am very glad that I had this hot pack handy in my first aid box. Also btw, chewing a clove is very helpful
Good morning Mick and all GN's on a dry still morning in North Yorkshire. It was pitch black when I first tried to post on here but for some reason wasnt able to get gransnet up at all. Tried this way and that but just got blanks and no contact at all for ages , which was rather frustrating. Wondered if Trump had decided I should be blocked for whatever!! However it has now decided to let me join in and see what everyone is up to.
I had a phone call yesterday to say that only 2 pairs of glasses will be ready today, not the four, but was at least able to arrange an earlier time to collect them, and will be pleased to get the reading glasses which will work for both eyes equally. So quite a change of plan for the day, as now I shall just be doing some basic bits around, call for some fresh bread early, so that I get the loaf that I like the best. Then it is fingers crossed that the glasses a) work properly and b) fit well. The last time I had a new pair, they looked somewhat lopsided and had to be relevelled up. Then I am invited to lunch at a friends , so a little celebration of new glasses and catching up with news and views. Back later in the afternoon when I plan to at least tackle a bit of the ironing mountain , before going off to my board games tonight.
It had been quite a chilly day yesterday but the afternoon cleared up a bit, quite sunny. Looking at plans for the week I thought that it was my best chance to go to the cinema in Thirsk and see the last Downton Abbey, so shot off there early, to bag a parking space as close as possible to the cinema. I knew that I would have difficulty walking round from the market square, and if it rained when I came out I would get drenched. Easy trip there and got parked and went to investigate the entrance and notices as have not been to that cinema before. Was soon joined by several other ladies and we all chatted together. It took me back to waiting in the queue for the saturday matinees in the winter as a child. This old cinema is totally run by volunteers and is absolutely of the old style. Paid my £6 and hobbled up the long stairs to give me a better view from the balcony. All as in the old days but the seats have been given much more comfortable seating whilst still looking the part. Apart from no usherette coming round with a tray of icecream and sweets and flashing her light at unruly children or amorous couples , it was very nostalgic. The film was magic, and I wont spoil it for those of you who plan to watch it when it is on general release in november, but suffice it to say it was very good and rounded off all the various story lines and with some marvellous music which Julian Fellows cunningly appropriated and added to the storylines which you will come out humming to yourself . Anyway for my first trip to this particular cinema, it was a great trip and I now know where to park etc for the future. You can even have a card stamped each time you go there and after ten visits you get to go free for one. Very good. I have already seen a trailer with Maxine Peake in - who I think is a very good actress, and has done so many different parts since she was in the lovely Dinner Ladies with Victoria Woods. So I really enjoyed the trip, and came in and ignored the jobs that I had not done and went off to bed thinking back to days gone by , and as a child going with my sister to the cinema. A long time ago now!
Now getting my car into winter mode, putting the usual picnic stuff in but adding the big umbrella and spare towel, and also my emergency clothes set, which means an old pair of trousers, old cashmere jumper and a t shirt and underwere and about 4 pairs of sox, all put in a bag at the ready. Then if I get deluged or whatever unexpectedly have some dry clothes to change into. I hate sitting in wet stuff but most of all loathe wet feet, to sit in all day. That was a general winter hazard when I did the hospital car service, as you would be in dark and murky conditions and of course step out of the car into some deep puddle or pot hole . I dont need the real winter provisions yet of a spade and some grit and a sack, ready to get me out of a snowdrift if needed. They are promising us some cold but clear days this week. Well we shall see what turns up, but yesterday the local cafe was very very busy with everyone out in their winter coats and some hats, so think we are all looking out warmer things to wear and reluctantly putting the summer clothes and suncream away!
Hope you have a pleasant trip into Bicester Mick and meet some friends .GrandMattie you will be glad to have a day to yourself today after yesterdays goings on. How come they always manage to turn it round to be the customers fault! Dont accept any blame and firmly tell them that they should have organised themselves better and got to you quicker. These days the saying seems to have been altered from the customer is always right to the customeri s always wrong!! Kittylester glad you are home and can relax and take it easy. Hope you soon feel better.Pelli , lovely picture of the hummingbird. GrannyIvy, it is always a bit of adjustment getting back to the rhythms of school and I speak as a teacher!! It is a lot for a child to cope with at once, with new lessons, changes of teacher and room and the timetable. Getting up at a set time too instead of when you wake up naturally can be hard to begin with, but after a couple of weeks it will settle down hopefully. To be able to sit by the fire with granny and have something nice to eat will be very comforting to them, that whatever else changes you are there for them. Lovely photo of your walk too. Grannygravy wish I could either transport you here or transport my ironing mountain for your attention. Well done you for finishing it. How nice to have a full choice of anything to wear instead of what have you got left fit to be seen which is clean and pressed!Karmalady, hope you get all your radiators sorted and can at least sit in the warm and rest. I am sorry you are having such a tough time and have every sympathy with you, and wishing you a better day.Susan56, so sorry you have more difficult things to deal with. I am sure your family are very grateful for your support. Hoping you may get some better news.
So can only wish for an improving day for everyone and to be able to enjoy a little time for yourselves, to have a coffee, or look out at some lovely scenery. My two squirrels have just raced along the fence and up into the tree and the sun seems to be cautiously coming out so lets hope it stays out and warms up a bit!
Some really lovely photos this morning. Peli I was hoping that you would post a picture of your humming birds! How fascinating!
Dear Susan, you and your family have had so much to contend with recently. 💐
Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle where Venus was shining away at dawn.
Yesterday was a busy productive day. A load of towels were successfully dried outside for once, I mowed the lawn, vacuumed downstairs, got towards the end of my tedious admin and got the surgery to send a further scrip to the chemist for the missing vital drugs. The heavier duvet went on as well and the outside tap turned off until spring. It seems rather early to be doing the latter two, I'd been hoping for an Indian summer.
Today, some cleaning upstairs and sorting out of clothes. I'd like to get my admin stuff finished and ready for posting off. Well, not like, must! Then I can relax.
Your lovely photo reminded me of a long ago holiday peli when DH and I sat breakfasting in a sunny garden and were enchanted by the little hummingbirds flitting around everywhere.
And beautiful dahlias GrannyIvy. I've grown them for years, successfully until I moved here. Here they're decimated by slugs and snails in spite of my efforts. I've finally tried the old beer trap method which previously I was cynical about but it turns out that slugs are real lager louts and would die for a good drink! Perhaps I won't give up on the dahlias yet.
karma that was some serious dental treatment you had! I hope you heal more swiftly than you think.
Look after yourself whywhywhy, I'm sorry you feel you have to leave. Best wishes.
Do have a good day everyone if possible.
Susan56 I am sorry you have even more upsetting news. You're having such a difficult time.
Keeping you in my thoughts. 🙏
Good morning from N.Bucks where it is dry but dull.
DD3 is picking me up in an hours time. I have my glasses to collect and then we will be hitting thre furnishing shops. She has a good eye for design and colour.
Choir tonight which I am looking forward to.
Wishing all a good day especially those who are recovering or coping with illnesses or other issues.
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It feels chilly and the heating has come on.
We got rid of our land line a couple of weeks ago. We had the same number since 1979. Most of the calls we were getting were spam calls. All of our friends and family have our mobile phone numbers and email addresses.
Karma, your tooth seems to have been painful for some time! I would have been in touch with the dentist by now.
OH will be up before me today - his car is being serviced.
I will have a quiet morning. Our cleaner came yesterday and I did my ironing. I am seeing friends this afternoon. One of them wants to buy a jar of honey so I must remember to take some with me.
Good to hear you’re back home Kitty. There’s nothing like your own bed.
Hope all is well with the FGT2s and MaryD.
Have a good day.
Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 7°C.
Welcome home Kitty and so pleased to see you posting, Blossoming,
Hopefully, the day will be a better day for you GM
Thank you for the beautiful photos.
This morning, I have an appointment with the medical students. Usually, I enjoy these sessions, but I'm feeling a tad ropey.
I am sorry to see whywhywhy is leaving and her perception of this thread, 💐
Enjoy your day, folks, whether it be a trip, holiday or just pottering,
Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
I packed a lot in yesterday. After my physio appointment, I spent an hour in Register House looking up the history of my house as I'm to give a talk about it next month to U3A
I met my French friends for lunch.
I took them to the Storytelling centre where it's quiet.
Then home where one of the pottery group helped move furniture ready for my niece's family.
My lodgers have given notice that they are leaving after only 3 months rather than 6 which I wasn't expecting.
Today dentist, exercise class and Gaelic class.
A friend is selling her old car which I may buy so will test drive hers.
Lovely pics this morning.
So glad you are home kitty. Rest up as long as you need.
Sorry to hear your sad news Bella and Susan
My DSis also had sad news on arriving home from holiday. Her BiL is on life support and they were rushing to his bedside.
I hope everyone has some joy today.
Good morning everyone from mid Essex, where it’s clear, sunny and 6 degrees again. The house is cooling down and I put the heating on to warm it up. As it’s sunny the house will soon warm up again.
grandmattie a hectic day for you yesterday. I hope that your heating problem is soon resolved and that your landline is now working. From experience with BT, a refund will be credited to your account without any problem.
kitty, you must be relieved to be home again, take it easy until you are fully recovered.
susan sorry to hear about your DD’s father in law.
. peli a lovely photo of the hummingbird, I hadn’t realised they’re so tiny! grannyivy lovely flowers on your walk yesterday! My usual walk is round playing fields, so just boring grass!
Yesterday one of my friends cut the grass in the back garden for me, then my next door neighbour came and cut back some of the shrubs which were hanging over into my garden, it looks so much better now. I hope to be able to do more myself in the coming months.
Happy holidays to those enjoying warmer places!
Thinking of those who are struggling in any way and hoping the day brings some relief for you.
Have the best possible everyone.
