I would imagine most older people are awake at stupid times. I know I am. It seems to affect women more than men, who seem to sleep like babies in the day as well as at night when they get older.
At least your musings are about harmless things. My awake-in-the-middle-of-the-night thoughts are nasty ones, centering around my illness. I find getting up, making a cup of tea and watching mindless tv while I drink it, helps me to get back to sleep. Daytime naps are a no-no for me as I found that I couldn’t get off to sleep at night if I slept in the day.
What I refuse to do is resort to sleeping pills.
