Good Morning Everyone,
A dark but a dry start to the day here in Brackley this morning.
Up to my usual routine with a bus trip to Bicester , to shop and see those I know, might have a coffee in the bakery cafe there .
TV wise will watch the women's world championships from Rwanda .
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it is 8°C,
The heating came on this morning, so it must have been chilly,

Georgesgran, Cyprus was a favourite destination for us, have a great holiday,

My life seems to be on hold at the moment, I have no inclination, nor energy to do much,
Yesterday, I went to M&S food hall at Silverburn, forgetting it was the holiday weekend. It was awful!
It was a glorious day, but all these badly behaved children and their rude parents were wandering round the shops. There seemed to be a distinct lack of good manners,

I did receive yet another hospital appointment for a scan, things are progressing rather quickly for me, especially as I have been fighting for help since January,.
I am amazed at the speed of things. However, I should not complain, by Monday 6th October, I should have a preliminary diagnosis.
Last night, DD and SIL appeared unexpectedly on their way back from Lidl and I frantically hid the colonoscopy pack, which had arrived.
My plan is to tell my children on Friday, when Dollie and her parents are back from New York, There is no point in spoiling their holiday, they would just fret.

For all those on holiday, enjoy and best wishes for all the poorlies,
Sar, your DGD has great spirit, in the face of everything, I hope her health improves. 💐

Good morning from Shropshire.A dull start with the promise of rain later.

Sar I am glad S is home and feeling better.

Yesterday was lovely spent with DD.DH got the party decor set up while we were out.The party went well, the children all had a good time.Today is round two with a party for family and friends from out of school.

Ash, the model railway exhibition was on our calendar but the party weekend has put paid to it.DH is looking forward to the British Motor Museum model railway show at the end of October.

Thinking of all struggling especially Marydoll and thoughts as ever with FGT’s.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

Good morning from an overcast looking Crewe where we have slept exceedingly well at my DD2’s home!

Our journey from Torquay went well with the train running to schedule although busy as ever, even in First Class. The familiar silliness in Stafford where, having displayed platform 3 for the train for our onward journey, this was changed to platform 5 just as several of us reached the bridge! Platform 5 was where we had just alighted…..grrh!

DSiL met us and we were soon enjoying catching up with DGD, who is in Y8 and DGS2, now in Y11. He seems to have emerged from a couple of fraught adolescent years into the mature young man we knew was lurking underneath! His parents think his school sports tour of South Africa in July was a turning point, partly due to the influence of sixth formers with whom he shared a room.

Today we have nothing planned until this evening when we shall go out for an Italian meal followed by a trip to the theatre to see Blood Brothers, which will be DH's first experience of seeing a musical! Survival is likely!

I’m glad to hear better news of Sar53's DGD and hope you can enjoy your holiday.

Best wishes to all who are enjoying holidays or days out.

Morning from a cloudy S Hants, definitely a medlar llfl.
Beautiful veranda peli
A busy day yesterday, stretch class, collecting granddaughter, McMillan coffee and cake - no cake for me, takeaway for MrJ, Tesco delivery, then pub.
Quieter today, plan is to remove tom plants from the greenhouse, MrJ will pick up my paper, granddaughter is staying tonight, pizza for her and MrJ.
I’m trying to lose some weight, it’s crept on, I have little patience and expect immediate results for ‘doing without’ 🙂.

Llfl, it is definitely a medlar.
They are not supposed to be eaten until they have “bletted”, the medlar equivalent of game hanging!
I have made delicious jelly with some - before bletted. They were softish but not “rotten”!

Marydoll Sat 27-Sept-25 08:27:50

LLFL if you do a reverse image search on Google, using your phone, you should be able to identify it,

Good morning from a dull northwest coast.
A good day yesterday, art in the morning although I’m not inspired at the moment. I know we shouldn’t rely on inspiration, but it helps. I always enjoy the company however.

In the evening into the city with soprano friend to see DS in his band and DGD. A very arty set up and very enjoyable. A few drinks for one who hardly drinks and a lateish night. The decorator is here and is finishing today. He’s been very easy to have around and efficient. The plumber didn’t turn up yesterday as promised, no surprises there and said it will be next week…

I was due to be out with the same friend for a meal tonight, but agreed that last night was enough. I’ll enjoy a night in.
Thoughts to all🌺

Good morning from grey South Lanarkshire. The glorious weather we’ve been having this last few days is over by the looks of it.

Another overnight childminding shift for us tonight so we’ll be off east at lunchtime.

Good to hear that S is on the mend. Sar.

Delicious food at Dishoom Grandmabatty, although I’ve never been there for breakfast.

Best wishes to all for a good day especially those of you with mountains to climb.

RosieandherMaw Sat 27-Sept-25 09:34:22

Grandmabatty

Ladyleftfieldlover is that a medlar?

Definitely a Medlar. DH planted a Medlar and a Quince in our old garden, about 35 years ago and we had many lbs of fruit from both from which he (note HE) loved making Medlar jelly and Quince cheese aka Membrillo, traditionally served with Manchego.
The Medlar can be an “untidy” tree and unfortunately the house’s new owners pruned it into a “nice neat shape” - it never fruited again for them.
Also alas they replaced the quince with a (boring, if pretty in blossom) Crab Apple .
In a way I’m glad he wasn’t there to see that. sad

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 27-Sept-25 09:47:32

peli thank you for the photograph! Lovely verandah I could sit out on it quite happily.

Enjoy breakfast with your son tomorrow Grandmabatty I can’t be the only one this morning to Google that venue! 😁

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 27-Sept-25 09:49:52

Thank you for the medlar help. There was a medlar tree in the quad of the Oxford college I worked at. The Principal pick d the medlars and made ham for the students. I never actually saw one of the fruits but knew it had to be al oat rotten before using.

Mary’s - I’m so glad your hospital appointments are coming thick and fast. When I went through a phase of multiple appointments I decided not to tell the children unless something was amiss.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 27-Sept-25 09:50:15

Jam!

Good morning all and it’s a bright start to the day here in Essex.
DS1 is picking us up shortly and taking us to a garden centre for some autumn colours. I need to sort out my summer pots and tubs, plant bulbs and then pot up the new plants.,

Yesterday was lovely meeting my two old pals at the Stratford Olympic park. Goodness me, Everytime we go there are more attractions, building, restaurants. It’s a really beautiful place to go with quiet spaces, wild gardens etc.

Sar good news about S. I hope she continues to improve.🙏.

Take care and enjoy the day.🌻

GrannySomerset Sat 27-Sept-25 10:02:13

Glad the fruit identification is sorted - what a knowledgeable bunch Grans are. Grey skies and a brisk wind suggest that autumn is arriving early but as we really did have a summer I don’t feel quite as sad as I usually do.

DS arriving this evening for a quick overnight visit to check that I have not subsided into chaos. Will not tell him I have an appointment with the surgeon to see about my painful hip - he has enough problems with his children just now and I think I can cope with this on my own. Will wait until I have a definite plan and a date before involving the children.

Special thoughts for Marydoll and the FGTs and everyone finding life demanding,

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's a little chilly.

My DB and family arrived last night from Denmark and we had a very lovely time over supper. Today they came the Open House where my DB and wife joined the French table.

My niece has offered to cook tonight and who knows what we'll do tomorrow. My friend has offered his car as an extra taxi if they want to go somewhere . My car is back on the road with a brand new tail pipe it had fallen off.

My one disappointment is that none of my DC are available to see their cousins.

I planted a quince tree Rosiesmaw after discovering membrilla in Spain. Alas it's very slow growing or a dwarf variety so unlikely to bear fruit in my lifetime 😔

Better news from you Sar.
I hope these appointments bring you relief and support Marydoll

Enjoy Dishoom Grandmabatty.
My DS1 loves that place too and even bought their cookbook. I like it but found it too noisy. I am getting old

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Blossoming Sat 27-Sept-25 11:17:32

Good morning everyone. It’s a rather dull, cloudy morning here in Lancashire. I’ve been in this pleasant care home for a full week, not much in my diary for the weekend 😊

MrB has just left and he will be back around 4pm. He looks a little lost, but definitely more relaxed after the anxious time when I was so very ill in hospital.

Wishing everyone a good weekend, may those with troubles find comfort x
