Unusual things to come upon.

An unusual sight to the car ahead of us during a drive home in a storm in France.

A huge branch had fallen, blocking the narrow country road. DH asked me to try to move it to the side of the road.

It was bucketing with rain so I stripped off so keep my clothes dry. As I was trying to move the branch, a car approached from the opposite side! A chap got out to help me and we parted company.

I wonder what went through his mind. At least I had dry warm clothes to get into!

It was a horrible storm and we had to stop twice because we couldn't see the road due to the rain.

Saw 2 workers on top of a roof. One laying over the top holding his mate by the ankles who was laying on his stomach face down trying to attach some pipework more than half way down the roof. I waved for a laugh and the guy at the top let go of one of his work mate's legs to wave back. No elf n safety there 😅

Many years ago I was walking my young Belgian Shepherd in the forest It was late afternoon in November. She bounded off to what looked like an enormous Labrador. Then it moved and I realised it was a man with no clothes on crouching down. I called her back and he held his hand up and shouted thank you

All this talk of Bambis reminded me of this - just strolling down the road near our house.

Many years ago my dad woke from his nap to say "a horse has just walked up our drive" we lived at the end of a cul de sac so no passing traffic. We all thought he was dreaming, But went for a look anyway. And there on the back lawn was this amazing animal, grazing quietly. Several minutes passed whilst we wondered who to call? Until a young dishevelled girl turned up looking for her horse , it had thrown her off and come visiting. We were glad she was alright just a bit bruised and sorry to see our guest leave.

My DIL went into her kitchen one day to find 3 very young ducklings nestling by the Aga. The family put them in a bath to enclose them with a standard lamp above them to keep them warm. They managed to raise 2 of the 3 and eventually released them onto the village pond.
When travelling through rural France I glanced over the hedge and in the distance I saw a man, presumably the farmer, being chased around the outside of a barn by a big Charolais. I often wonder if he managed to get away.

Years ago, in the late 60s, I noticed a huge cow grazing happily at the top of our sloping garden. The garden was opposite a field of cows and one of them had obviously made a bid for freedom. With a 10 month old baby, I was in no position to do anything myself, so I phoned the police. A very young policeman arrived, took a look at the cow and was clearly very shocked. He made no attempt to move the cow, just got paler and paler. In the end, I thrust the baby into his arms and moved the cow myself! Luckily, I had spent childhood holidays with grandparents in the country so I wasn’t phased by a cow!
I understand now that cows are aggressive, but in those days I remember them being calm and gentle. In fact, the fastest way down to the village was through a field of cows and people walked there all the time, even young children heading for the playground. What changed, I wonder?

I think there is “something in the breeds” they are definitely more bolshie! I wonder what the statistics are…

We were staying at a hotel in Malta years ago. Staying at the same hotel was a man who wore Native American dress, including full headdress.

I'm sure he had Midlands accent 😀

It took a bit of effort

When I was a student half a century ago, we were rowing up the River Dee in Chester and a couple were naked on the opposite bank up to a bit of hanky panky. A launch carrying scouts sped past and all the kids shouted 'Woah' at the couple and started waving like mad. Never forgot that.

Not me but my husband. Many years ago one early Sunday morning he was driving our young son to an away football match and cycling in the other direction was Batman on a bike. He presumed he was either rolling home from a stag do or fancy dress party. Or on his way to a Fathers for Justice rally. To this day whenever we drive down the same road my husband always says, " I will never forget the day I saw Batman cycling along this road."

Coming back from a late night event turned a corner and ahead were 3 horses galloping down the road (not a main road) nevertheless not what you expect, we weren't in The New Forest or similar where ponies roam free.

Some years ago in Italy around Pisa, evening time it was dark, saw a number of young black women by the side of the road. No doubt trafficked and forced to do what they were doing made me feel both angry and sad.

On a happier note, a friend stayed in a hotel where unbeknown to her, an Elvis convention was going on, so umpteen looky likies dressed in his best known outfits, such as the well known Las Vegas rhinestone encrusted white one. Friend who referred to them collectively as "The Elvi" spent most of breakfast time straining ears to hear one or any say the famous "thank you very much" Elvis style
