I have posted on the “things I have never done” thread but it got me to wondering what unusual/ unexpected things you have come upon.
Once, when my H and I were walking in Devon, we came across a couple making love/ having sex in a field on a cliff top.
They were just off a footpath .
It is difficult to say who was more embarrassed.
We just said,oh excuse us, and carried on walking.

We came upon a big black snake in Croatia, it slithered across a footpath in front of us and I screamed like a loon.
Other walkers were more concerned about my screaming than the close proximity of a snake.
Btw Usedtobeblonde I hope this wasn’t during the recent spell of chilly weather, I imagine that would dampen anyone’s ardour.

My DD and I went for a walk in the local country park and came across an angry looking bull. We would have to have passed him to walk home.
There was no signal there on our phones so we decided to retreat further up the hill.
We waited for a while and found he had gone but were very wary on our way back.

My favourite of all time was when we were on a leisurely drive through our country lanes when, passing through a village a Dalek drove out of someone's front drive and down the road. It was so life like. I literally screamed with joy. It made several guest appearances that year at the local church fetes.

My daughter and I were driving back from a restaurant one summer night when we saw a guy sitting on a bench and a girl kneeling in front of him .
You can imagine what she was doing.
Unfazed,my daughter burst into fits of laughter and announced what they were doing.
If I'd been with my Mother I would have been mortified .
I thought about it afterwards - it was still light and many cars were going past them !

We were walking in the Camargue on a very hot day when we were passed by a rotund, completely naked man on a bicycle!
He didn’t even say bonjour!

One evening driving on a country road from Portsmouth to Stratford we passed a man riding a penny farthing bicycle

Quite a long time ago now I decided to take a rest beside my car on a wide grass verge in the country side and dozed off. When I woke up there were about 5 or 6 cows in a circle staring down at me!!!! It was quite funny and when I talked to them [yes, I did!] they just meandered off, back from whence they came.

I got stuck in a huge traffic jam. Turned out that there was a selfish sod on a unicyle in front trying to make some sort of point I suppose. He certainly made a lot of people late for work.

On a very hot day a couple of years ago I was walking down Piccadilly (London) when at least a hundred naked cyclists (almost all male) rode past!
They gave all us many bystanders a good laugh, but must admit I did wonder about their bits getting sunburnt!

Oh, I am naïve - my first thought was that she was proposing blush
But bot that naïve!!

Down at the beach one evening at dusk I saw this little creature in the garden. At first I thought it was a rabbit ( there are loads down there) but it had a pointed face and was smaller but not as small as a rat. It was an Eastern barred bandicoot, an endangered species, a few of which that had been released on the other side of the island. I felt very ,very privileged.

Recently, with my just-turned two year old Grandson, he ran ahead of me (in a children't playground) and I realised just in time he was headed straight for a flower bed where a patch of bare earth appeared to be moving, somehow - it took me a second to realise there was a nest of wild bees swarming over the ground! I grabbed his hand and we beat a hasty retreat. Luckily no harm was done, but I still feel shaken at the memory!

In Arizona we were walking around a tourist attraction in a desert area and we saw signs telling us to stay on the paths so as not to disturb the rattle snakes! We definitely stuck to the paths.

I once saw a muntjak deer in the garden. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Since then I have seen several cockatiels perched in the trees and a male mandarin duck wandering down the middle of the road.

When my husband was alive and had a pond full of Koi and goldfish we came home to find 2 fish flapping about on the lawn still very much alive but how they got there was a puzzle. The level of the water was at least a foot below the lip and there was a two foot drop to the lawn as it had a raised edge. We wondered whether it was the heron who visited now and then who hiked them out of the water but never ate them. The alternative was the 2 fish were in a contest to see who could jump the highest and miscalculated their landing spot 🤣

Aldom Tue 30-Sept-25 13:35:14

Tanith I once walked into the kitchen to find one of our large goldfish under the kitchen table.
No mystery in my case....I blamed the cat. smile

Aldom Tue 30-Sept-25 13:36:08

PS.....the fish was alive and survived the experience I'm pleased to say.

tanith Tue 30-Sept-25 13:42:59

Glad it survived Aldom.

Every Thursaday , my colleagues and I used to go for a walk in the country roads above our school.
There was nothing but fields and a dam, but one evening, from out of a hedge, emerged aman in a dark suit, shirt, tie, wearing a bowler hat and carrying an umbrella.

It was totally surreal, for we had no idea where he came from.

In South Africa we were having afternoon tea in the open. There was a rustling in a large bush and two rhinos emerged.
A slight change from the Tiger who came to tea!

Chilly weather dampens ardour? You must have forgotten what it was like when we were young and had recently discovered/ invented sex.

I was walking with a friend through woods beside a beach and came across 3 naked men lying on the grass.

Last September we found a man dead in our road in the middle of the day. Sorry to lower the tone, but we did.
