RIP Jilly such a character, I'll always remember her for a serial she wrote in Petticoat that had 17 year old me captivated. Strangely I've never read any of her books, I know she has tons of devotees.

Oh, I took ‘Petticoat’ as well!

Still have all my copies in the loft, faded and rather tatty.

Must look and see if I have the JC serial.

Oh dear. That's sad. Another name which has been part of my life for so long. I thought she would be here for ever.
She seemed to be great fun and I expect will be very much missed by her friends and family.

Think so!

'Class' was a good book too.

Was ‘Bella’ another one?

I started reading her books when I was a Teenager, and like many, fell for R C-B..horses and hunks the perfect match.
She was one of those women you would have liked to have a drink with.
RIP lovely lady 🌹

Oh No! This is terribly sad.
Many of on here will have fond memories of her books/films and her wicked sense of humour.
I feel like I’ve lost a friend.

RIP Jilly.

Exactly what I would gave posted, merlot.

Does anyone remember the books with girl's names as titles? She named one of them after me!!

And her newspaper columns were so relatable.

Without looking them up, Harriet, Prudence, Imogen, Octavia come to mind.

Oh, that was unexpected!
I hadn't realised she was 88 either.

She always seemed so very amusing and good fun, although life never read any of her books.

RIP Jilly Cooper.

‘Riders’ seemed so very daring when I read it.

A friend of mine lent my elderly mother a copy.

I said to Mum “Hmm, don’t know if it’s a suitable read for you Mum”. shock

Mum said “Oh, I just skip the sex bits!”

RIP Jilly.

RIP - she was an inspiration throughout my adult life, funny, sexy, empathetic from the days of her newspaper column in the Sunday Times to her move to the country and all those hilarious bonkbuster books.
She was also a greyhound lover (Feather and Bluebell) and champion of the Retired Greyhound Trust.
A woman who absolutely lived life to the full and brought much pleasure to others
