Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still and grey morning here in North Yorkshire. This morning I reversed the order of the day and as I was feeling a bit less creaky was able to get up in what used to be my normal way and shower and dress and breakfast without loitering around and taking ages. So you are my last call and have just been reading all the posts, before I rush off to make the most of feeling reasonable and am going down to York to the designer outlet. Havent been there for months, but they have an M and S outlet there. For me it is always feast or famine there, they either have several things my size that I want at much reduced prices, or there is absolutely nothing that would fit anyone bigger than Twiggy!!

So my great plan is to put my box in order and my flask etc etc, now dressed in reasonably decent clothes but will put boots and thick jumper etc in the boot too. If the promised rain arrives I shall stay in the shopping centre and have a bit of a look round and then home to face more ironing, but if the weather stays good or there is nothing that I want to buy or try on, I shall make a hasty depart and carry on to Harrogate and go and look round RHS Harlow Carr, which is much more to my liking of course!!

I had such a lovely day yesterday, and all because of being flexible!! The plan had been to carry on with work inside and do a bit to the garden and wind the honeysuckle round the wigwam properly, but the weather looked so nice and sunny and dry and I was awake early. My friend up in the durham area was going for a covid jab today and rang to have a chat and it was so nice we decided that I would go up and we would have a time together. before the covid jab might have a reaction tomorrow. So I ,as usual ,was eager to abandon any thoughts of work and shot off, with the idea that if the promised miserable afternoon arrived I would come back to the jobs. Well so glad I went. The weather was lovely and sunny all day, we got a bit of shopping that was needed, and I signed up for a Morrison card. Up to now have never been anywhere near one to use it, but there area couple of them nearer me now , so yet another flipping card to add to my growing collection. Anyway we had a successful morning and as the weather was still so lovely went right up the durham dales and saw a herd of very mixed colour alpacas and some trees turning to autumn colours, so dont care a jot that nothing got done here, and again today am making the most of feeling up to moving about. But even a couple of days with less pain and getting something done, whether jobs or days out lifts my spirits, after weeks and weeks that seem to have been a struggle to just get through the days. But of course I have always had a sort of lifted spirit and ready to make decisions and get things done at this time of the year.

It is being a lecturer and teacher, so this is the "new year" to me, and am resolutely not looking at the very long list of things that have not yet been done and just cheered to see anything getting sorted and the simple ability at the moment to bend down and pick up something from the floor is cheering. My only problem is that I know myself of old, and instead of just being glad to do one or two jobs that have been waiting, I push myself to try and catch up with the endless things I have been frustrated with and then overdo it and get paid back by seizing up again!! Anyway it is lovely to be me today and not the moaning minnie that I feel I have become lately. Looking out of the window, I have a couple of fat pigeons strolling around near my windblown pots of flowers and there is a grey squirrel digging little holes and skittering about sticking nuts and stuff in them. There are a very few leaves on the ground considering the wind we had yesterday, but they probably got swept off to a pile somewhere further down the garden. I need to look up about salvias tonight. Bought six seedlings in a tray and while 5 of them are growing steadily and slowly one has shot up and even flowered. So I need to look up and see if I can plant it in the border - less likely to get frosted in the ground, or find somewhere to shelter the seedlings as now have no greenhouse or cold frame here. Ah well it can all wait , whilst I get off on my trip. Apart from really needing a pair of winter warmer trousers, and need to look out for some warmer socks for the winter but have to be the diabetic ones now that dont grip your leg too much. Had loads of super sox ranging from really thick woollen ones for walking and sailing to a pair of light looking but very warm cashmere ankle sox, but not allowed to have very clingy sox these days, so might find something that would be usefull. we shall see!! I may return triumphant with needed clothes, or more likely return triumphant with a plant from harlow carr!!

So wishing you all a successful day in whatever you are doing and will be back to read more thoroughly and catch up with all your doings later . May you all feel in a better state today

(((Hugs))) Marydoll you must feel as if a huge weight has been taken off of your shoulders.

Grannydaisy1 Tue 07-Oct-25 08:39:43

Well done Marydoll. Great news

Ashcombe Tue 07-Oct-25 08:36:45

Thank you for updating us and good to hear of reassuring news, Marydoll. 😀

RosieandherMaw Tue 07-Oct-25 08:34:38

Huge relief MaryDoll - now get on with getting your strength back!

Marydoll Tue 07-Oct-25 08:31:00

Good morning all from a wet Glasgow, where it is 12°C,

How exciting, Bellsnanna.

You must have been delighted to hear from your son, GM.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, GMB, but a painful lesson for your grandson.😪

Karma is there no end to your skills? 👏

Fortunately, I did make it to the Golden Jubilee, without any accidents., however, my anxiety wasn't helped by DH going rogue again,. He refused to listen and change lanes, when coming off the bridge, saying he knew what he was doing. Of course he missed the slip road.
At the next ( four lane) roundabout, go in the outside lane and take a sharp right and we will be fine, I said.
He drove straight on, insisting that this was the way he always went. He was talking rubbish. This was our usual route to the retail park and shopping centre, where I was tempted to open the door and jump out!

I could feel my anxiety levels rising, when he ignored the suggestions of both myself and the sat nav, I know what I am doing, said the he. 🙈
On this nmagical mystery tour, I saw parts of Clydebank, I never knew existed 😡
When we arrived at the fully occupied car park he said, I told you I knew what I was doing. He nearly found himself a patient in the hospital!
Of course there were no spaces, but at least, for once, he took my advice, to listen to me and let me look for a space.

Trying to find the surgical unit was another problem. We had to eventually go outside and into the very smart surgical unit, vastly different from my local hospital, where I was initially meant to have my procedure.
Each patient has a pod, (about forty of then) complete with a personal toilet. I have never seen so many medical staff in one place.
I did cause a bit of consternation, when the staff took my long, complicated medical history, and multi medication allergies, especially as I was wearing a Fentanyl patch and they usually give Fentanyl, as pain relief,
It didn't help, when staff couldn't find a suitable vein for the cannula. They settled on my hand, which now sports numerous shades of purple.

The procedure went well and the outcome is that I do not have cancer, but one of the lesser evils, probably a result of years of RA meds and opioids. It explains the years of stomach pain,
I could have wept with relief, Apparently, I have been having a flare up, hence my humiliating episode outside the GP surgery a few months ago.
Photographs were taken in three areas, for future reference,
I need to wait to see the colorectal consultant, to find out the results of the CT scan and chest x-ray, but I am not concerned about that. It is all relative, for I have waited ten months for a diagnosis, a bit longer is not a problem.

Today, is a day of rest, especially as I didn't sleep well and my head is throbing from the double dose of pain meds. No driving for a few days,
My joints are so painful, as is my stomach, I was downstairs at 6am for pain relief,
My butler, DH, who is usually up before 6pm, has just wakened. I was ^forced to make my own cuppa and hot water bottle for my hips. 😉
It is so unlike him, I am worried about the toll this is taking on him. He looks old and tired.♥️

Yesterday a parcel was delivered with my long line gilet and Babydoll's dinosaur umbrella, except there was no gilet, nor brolly, just an enormous puffer coat. 😡
A phone call to customer services is on the cards,

Overwhelmed by the support of my family, friends and kind Gransnetters has made me realise, life is not too bad after all, just problematic,
Thank you all. ♥️

Enjoy your day and my best wishes for all with mountains to climb.💐

Good morning from Cambridgeshire.
Just a quick pop in this morning to say have a good day. We are starting to decorate the spare bedroom today 🙈

Thinking of Marydoll and FGT but also others on this thread that are facing hills to climb. Take care everyone 🤗

Grammaretto Tue 07-Oct-25 08:28:03

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. The sky looks ominous.
The washing almost dried yesterday in the wind and scotch mist

I'm expecting a new Helper/volunteer later today. She's Australian and is interested in wool.
I have been making a list of jobs I hope she can help with.

I'll be leaving her alone a lot. I hope she's OK with that.

I saw the lawyer yesterday, briefly, and think I know how to proceed with my business.

I then tried on and bought a couple of new tops and trousers.

I do admire you who can just wizz things up on the machine!
As for Karmalady: I'm surprised the word procrastination is in your vocabulary. 😂

Ashcombe The teacher is right. You are so much better. ❤️

A lesson for your DGS, Grandmabatty .

How wonderful to have so many visits from Gnetters Bellasnanna!

I hope Marydoll got on alright yesterday and also the FGTs

Have a the best possible day 😊

Good morning from a dullish Suffolk after a glorious day yesterday.

Today is the 80th birthday of one of my group of school friends the other 4 of us reach this milestone next year. We have been friends since we started grammar school in 1957 and have weekends together 2 or 3 times a year as well as regular phone calls and WhatsApp messages.

We are meeting up in London early next month and will plan our special celebration for next year.

Thinking of MD and FGT and hoping they and others having difficult times find comfort in the love and support of family and friends.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 07-Oct-25 08:15:34

Good morning, I have nothing planned today.

This evening I am off to a rather nice restaurant with my hosts, my thank you to them for having me to stay.

I fly home tomorrow evening.

Thinking of Marydoll and FGT2’s himself 🌸

baubles Tue 07-Oct-25 08:12:09

Good morning from rainy South Lanarkshire.

I thought I’d dreamt that people were having a conversation under my bedroom window about 3am but DH confirmed that he had also heard them. Odd.

I’m in awe of you karma, so much activity in one day.

Enjoy your time with your Granspal Bella.

I’ll be doing my shift in the charity shop today and with a bit of luck DH will have finished the work in the downstairs loo by the time I get home. He does like to do things himself but my goodness, these days everything seems to take an age.

Thinking of MD and the FGTs and everyone else with mountains to climb.

Georgesgran Tue 07-Oct-25 07:57:25

Good Morning from a very grey, overcast Durham. I had both the Covid and ‘flu jabs yesterday, haven’t slept much and the Covid site is sore.
I’m taking an item back to Newcastle John Lewis and meeting a friend for coffee afterwards. Before I go, I need to blow up my tyres, as the warning light is on. I’ll drop the rest of DD2m’s laundry off on my way home.

I hope Marydoll’s day wasn’t too bad and there is some news soon. Thinking of the FGTs as Himself undertakes more chemo.

Best wishes to all. X

ginny Tue 07-Oct-25 07:55:00

Good morning from N. Bucks. Dry and dull at the moment.
Some cakes to make this morning . Lunch with two longtime friends , sadly the third cannot make it as medications for her Parkinson’s has been changed and does not agree with her.
Looking forward to choir this evening, always a couple of hours of fun.
Thinking of those with troubles or illness and a good day wished for all.

Gingster Tue 07-Oct-25 07:49:27

Good morning all and it’s a grey start to the day. Yesterday was again beautiful. Very warm and sunny.

A restless night here too. Had a busy day with financial people that turned my brain to mush 🤯. Along with the full moon .

Today I’ll pop into town, Bank and Specsavers. I have another cataract op next week but my eye that was done last month is troublesome. I’m having white swirling light coming in at the side , occassionally. 👁️.

This afternoon I have Bridge Club.

I hope all the procedures went well yesterday and lots of love to FGT’s and Marydoll. 🙏.

Take care 🌻

Good morning from Shropshire.Another fine day forecast.

We are enjoying these warm and sunny days.We missed most of the summer due to me being in hospital and then recovery so DH is really enjoying getting the gardens back to how he likes them. The garden is his happy place and it’s so good to see him out there enjoying himself plus the gardens are looking good!

Today is my exercise class so hoping I last the hour today🤞🏻

Really hope things went well for Marydoll yesterday🙏🏻and thoughts with FGT’s as Himself starts his new treatment🙏🏻

Blossoming good to hear you are getting out for your walks💪🏼you have inspired me to push myself which has really improved my strength and recovery.Thank you💐

Wishing everyone a good day🦩🌻

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 07-Oct-25 07:38:03

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

My sister and bro in law are on the way back to Australia now. We had breakfast yesterday joined by my step father who was staying nearby. The house is now back to normal!

It is the WI coffee morning which am looking forward to.

My fairly new pc - not a year old - was playing up badly yesterday. It has a 2-year guarantee from John Lewis but thought we’d have a go at sorting out the problem. It is working again but if it fails once more I’ll ring their Technical Help Desk.

I hope all went well with MaryD’s procedure. Thinking of the FGT2S as well.

Have a good day. It feels autumnal but I heard birds singing earlier.

luluaugust Tue 07-Oct-25 07:37:50

Good morning from a grey W Kent. Off to U3A art group this morning, the theme is Autumn a good excuse to slosh some red and brown around. This afternoon my friend who is obsessed with GB News is coming for tea, I shall just sit back and see what this weeks topic is. Do all our personalities become exaggerated as we age.
Bellasnana enjoy your day out
Best wishes

Grannydaisy1 Tue 07-Oct-25 07:36:56

Best wishes to fgt and himself this afternoon.

Sar53 Tue 07-Oct-25 07:33:36

Good morning from the Essex coast where it is chilly. We arrived home about midnight yesterday after a journey which seemed to consist of queues, queues and more queues.
DH has arranged to go to London today to meet up with some old work colleagues leaving me to do all the unpacking, shopping etc. I am not impressed.
We also have a committee meeting at the Yacht club this evening and I have lots to do to prepare for that.
Nevermind, we had a lovely holiday so I shouldn't be complaining.
I hope MD is recovering after yesterday.
Have a good day everyone, best wishes to all xx

Redcar Tue 07-Oct-25 07:21:51

Good morning everyone from mid Essex where it’s dry and bright. Yesterday I visited my godmother’s bungalow to begin the process of sorting out her estate for probate. The other executor had sorted out some of the paperwork and I brought it home to continue the process. I have an appointment tomorrow to register the death,
I went by taxi and it was such a lovely drive with blue sky and sunshine.
I have my Covid jab this morning, and hope I won’t have too much discomfort afterwards.
I hope marydoll’ isn’t feeling too poorly this morning and that the procedure yesterday wasn’t too uncomfortable. (Doctor’s euphemism for painful !). I hope that mr fgt’s chemo isn’t too brutal and has good results.
bellasnana have a lovely meeting with your Gransnet friend this morning.
Have the best day possible everyone.

karmalady Tue 07-Oct-25 06:51:52

Good morning from a dry s somerset

I didn`t have to look, I knew it was a full moon by my restlessness in the night, a harvest moon I think

All dressed up and ready to cycle on my road bike. I went to pump up the tyres, they need to be rock hard but the front tyre was completely flat. I took the inner tube out and there was a big puncture. I put a new inner in and pumped it, got to 40 psi and there was a pop and that inner deflated, those wheels need to be at 90 psi. That one was a seam failure. I put my last inner in and that was a success, naturally I was twitchy riding out but all was well and I got back safely

It was a beautiful ride but that was the last one on those skinny wheels this year, there are too many thorns on the lanes, as well as loose gravel. I will have to go out on my bikes with the robust tyres

I do like to keep spares, I went onto the islabikes site and they are still maintaining spares, to support the islabikes that have been purchased. Very much sale prices and I purchased a load of inners at 99p each and grabbed some spare tyres also at a bargain price. I love that bike and want to keep it going as long as possible. I am not going to repair those punctures, 90 psi is very high and any weakness would blow

It was so nice and sunny yesterday but there is more leaking from my boiler, I am waiting for seals to be replaced and my plumber will be in touch soon. He is good, I have been with that firm for 15 years, meantime there is more water in the jug and I am going to turn my ch off, which will reduce pressure

I did the en suite and ran water in the unused bathroom to clean off stains from standing water. All is now nicely refreshed

Today, I am not going to procrastinate but I will start the day with a town walk. I need to check my ocado order for tomorrow, last minute changes. I put 32 onion sets in at home yesterday and covered another 1 sqm bed with cardboard. The crab apple tree is laden with big red crab apples, I am letting them fall and rot on the ground, food for birds and insects and the blueberry bushes are now a bright red

Today I am going to do some meal planning, I am finding that I am closer than ever to only 2 meals a day but will plan some soup to make a third

Have a good day

mum2three Tue 07-Oct-25 06:48:40

Good morning from a still dark Lancashire. I've discovered crystal art! I shall whizz through the cleaning and then settle down with my new past-time.
Firework season has arrived so I'll be dreading the evenings now. My poor pets are terrified.

Ashcombe Tue 07-Oct-25 06:41:33

Your poor DGS2, Grandmabatty: a lesson learned the hard way.
Good to know you’re healing well. 🥰

Greyduster Tue 07-Oct-25 06:37:40

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is dark but looks dry. Yesterday I went to the gym early but didn’t enjoy it so didn’t stay as long as usual. The rest of the day was mostly taken up with moving stuff back into my bedroom, making a large batch of chicken and mushroom pie filling. I had a walk after tea last night and the rising moon was absolutely huge. No camera, of course and the camera on my phone didn’t cut it.
This morning the decorator is coming back to paint the garage door and to put discuss a couple of issues I have with the bedroom. Then this afternoon volunteering at school.
Have the best day you can folks.
