I had a bit of a purple thing going on and now it's moved to orange.

Strange isn't it?

My mother loved grey and I always said we have enough grey in this country without wearing it. It can look great though.

I love green, yellow and purple, but not all worn together or I will look like abruise!

@Boadicea and Cherrytree59, it sounds as if you have synesthesia. It is where the senses merge and is actually rather fun. About 1% of the population has it. I have it, too, but in a slightly different way as mine is sound related. I sense colours for the different keys - G major is green, F major is orange, D minor is indigo, C minor, the key associated with funeral pieces, is black. B minor is remote and silver, whereas cheerful A major is red. This is just a sample. When I read, many words have different scents - my favourite is romance, which gives me a fragrant rose perfume.

When it comes to clothes, I love colour. I have found that Autumn colours suit me best so red, gold, burnt orange, brown, burgundy, green, peach and pink are the colours I wear most. I like blue but find that I have to be careful with the shade of blue and it is better if it is not the dominant colour - French navy is better than airforce blue. I prefer navy to black, which is very draining on me and leeches out all colour on my already very fair skin. The worst colour for me is grey, which gives me a corpse-like complexion. Not good. I have had a lot of compliments today on the outfit I wore to church. It was a Joe Browns dress in diagonal stripes of red, brown, white and burnt orange, which l teamed with a vintage St. Michael label open cardigan. The cardigan is brown with burnt orange lapels. Both items were courtesy of Vinted.

Love colour.
Teals, blues, powder/baby blue,
Powder/dusty pinks
Black washes me out.

I am a riot of colour .... especially since discovering Lucy and Yak!

Blues: my whole wardrobe is mix and match. I have tried adding in other colours but can’t seem to find a comfortable one somehow. Blue and white seems to be my combination!

Purple for me, it has been for ages I also like teal of late.

I also like teal of late.
Yes, teal as well, not as bright as turquoise but on the same colour spectrum.

Allira Sun 12-Oct-25 22:04:04

Turquoisey blues but it's been hijacked by a political party.

Reds and corals, not wishy-washy pinks, otherwise blue and more blue. Navy blue to tone it down.

MaizieD Sun 12-Oct-25 21:55:22

Reds, blues and grey green or forest green are my favourites with camel, cream and grey for woollens. Black or navy for trousers.

I loathe pink, but like coral. Wouldn’t consider lime green, mauve or yellow.

I tend to go for the same colours in carpets and furnishings.

I like royal blue and sapphire, and bright red. I’m always drawn to clothes in those colours when I’m out shopping. I think it’s because I’m a summer lover, I find autumnal colours quite depressing to wear.

Boadicea Sun 12-Oct-25 21:42:29

Blue, purple, lilac, teal, turquoise, that sort of range.

Not orange or green. Ugh! Especially not together, or orange and purple together - I remember as a child we had a set of tablemats with pictures of flowers on and I absolutely hated the one with orange and purple flowers on it although I like purple on its own.

I too often associate not just people but words with colours.
April is definitely red, March is green, (why?!)
I also "see" every word I hear, even in French or Italian but not in languages I don't know.
It was a long time before I realised that not everyone else did.

I do sometimes end up with clothes colours I don't really like because I buy most of my clothes from charity shops.

Exactly what Georgesgran said except was a gift from DH.

winterwhite Sun 12-Oct-25 20:44:47

Pillar box red . Never beige, brown or black.

Georgesgran Sun 12-Oct-25 20:41:24

I had my colours done too - pably15 it was very popular ‘Colour me Beautiful’ in the ‘80’s. A friend and I went to a sort of house party (like Tupperware) then ladies were seen individually by the Colour Consultant who analyzed skin and hair colours/tones tones to match up to one of the 4 seasons. There was a fee, but we then got some advice (mine was not to colour my hair) and a swatch of suitable colours. I still have mine swatch and stick to them - purples and pinks and never peach or yellow.

I am always drawn to coral colours for sweaters, lipsticks and toe nail paint.

ginny Sun 12-Oct-25 19:46:54

Bright pastels are my favourite colours. I tend to go for the blues through turquoise, teal and then towards the greens . You’ll never see me in yellow or lilac , beige, cream or dry pale pink.

Scottishthistle Sun 12-Oct-25 19:40:12

Not strange, typo. Again.

Scottishthistle Sun 12-Oct-25 19:38:36

Hiya Esmay, you are not by any means weird. Personally i find it interesting. Thought it was aura related. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Have a nice night. x

Esmay Sun 12-Oct-25 19:31:48

Cherrytree59 .
Are you artistic ?
Are you creative ?
Do you feel strongly about colours ?
I wonder if you haven't got synaesthesia like me .
Apparently children have a tendency towards synaesthesia, but creative artistic adults retain and develop it .
I certainly see people as colours . It doesn't present as an aura ,but as a feeling .
I also see days of the week or months and other things as colours .
It's something that I seldom share with other people in case they think that I'm a bit strange !
But being part of artistic communities has revealed that I'm from alone .

Babs03 Sun 12-Oct-25 19:30:50

I love all colours but not brown or beige so much. Black or grey is ok when set off by bright colours. I suppose my favourites are teal and emerald green.

I had my colours done and it confirmed that was right to be drawn to pink and purple.

TerriBull Sun 12-Oct-25 19:21:27

Purple for me, it has been for ages I also like teal of late.
