Do you find yourself drawn to a colour?

I had a bit of a purple thing going on and now it's moved to orange.

Strange isn't it?

My mother loved grey and I always said we have enough grey in this country without wearing it. It can look great though.

Valdavi , that sounds good, navy is a popular colour at the moment, one of my daughters is using it a lot in her new home and it looks stunning.

I love dusky pink have clothes and items in this colour drawn to it.

I have been colour drenching on my last couple of projects, and I love the results, everything one colour, very dramatic
I want to do my dining room black, but I’m going to experiment with a bathroom first, my decorator is a bit wary, he said he’s never painted a whole room black, but it’s not permanent is it? I’m giving it a go.

My decorator (me) wouldn't dare, as although its not permanent, I couldn't face the many coats of emulsion I would have to do to cover up black if I hated it!
But full marks for bravery, on some pinterests all black looks amazing with feature lighting & metallic accents.
I'm going to do a navy feature wall in my dining room, not colour drenching but using one of the all-surface paints that will do the radiator (or so they claim) as well as the wall.

Ooh, purple and orange are my favourite colours! And a lovely leafy green. Yes absolutely, colours sing to me. Even imagining them and writing down the names makes me happy.

Not for me Sara

Sara1954 Wed 15-Oct-25 06:41:51

NanKate, agree, is beige even a colour?

NanKate Tue 14-Oct-25 22:15:45

Purple and lilac for me.

I wear bright colours every day.

I have NO beige in my wardrobe. Yuk 😝

Autumn colours particularly orange or gold. Drawn to orange mainly and whenever I wear it I always get told how much it suits me.

Grey for me, or navy and white stripes.

Esmay Tue 14-Oct-25 09:03:27

Autumncolours -thank you very much for the interesting link .
I've only recently started to read up about synaesthesia.
I didn't realise that it's been such a strong part of my life .
Back to mundane chores today !

I also really dislike mustard, also khaki and most greens, I make an exception for lime.
But I do love maroon, even though it reminds me of school uniforms.

Milest0ne Tue 14-Oct-25 00:33:27

I like lots of colors but find some quite horrible , like mustard and maroon. There are some reddish toned purples I dislike but I love natural Amethyst gemstones.

Orange, burnt orange, red, yellow

Catterygirl Mon 13-Oct-25 23:38:05

Red, without a doubt. People come up and chat to me. I have loads of black from the days when people suggested I was fat at 10 stone. A few favourites will stay but the rest are headed for the charity shop or eBay. I do love bright fuschia.

Both my son and I have perfect pitch so you may be onto something there Musicgirl. Like you, I associate keys and notes with colours. Weirdly I once described my new striped curtains to my sister as ‘very A Minor’. For me A is yellow, C green, E blue. She understood as she also has synaesthesia though her colours are very different. I have good colour recall too Esmay and can match paint and fabric colours from a sort of filing cabinet of colour in my memory. As a child I thought everyone saw letters, numbers, months etc in colour so when I asked a girl at secondary school what colour her A was and she looked blank I was very surprised!
Professor Jamie Ward at Sussex University has been studying synaesthesia for 20 years and I’ve taken part in various research projects there over the years. They have the latest information here:
www.sussex.ac.uk/synaesthesia/
There is an online questionnaire you can do on there too to add to their research.

Pink! I have very sallow skin and most colours make me look ill. Pink is good!

Esmay Mon 13-Oct-25 20:31:30

Autumncolours-To be honest I'm really glad that I'm not alone.
I think that about 1% of the population have synaesthesia.
Once at a party one of my friends introduced me as having the gift of seeing people in colours.
Suddenly I was surrounded by a lot of unfamiliar people demanding to know their colour and there were a couple of dark mutterers !
One of my daughters has it and she is a successful artist and lecturer .
I used to call it being colour sensitive .
Possibly it's being colour oversensitive !
If I need to match a colour -I can do it without a sample .
I've done it twice today.
I love the idea of music being too brown.
It describes a feeling so precisely.

Sheian57 Mon 13-Oct-25 19:52:15

I love all shades of blue. I generally like bright colours, over dark, but overall it's blue

Musicgirl Mon 13-Oct-25 19:46:21

Yes, Autumncolours, I think you are right as my daughter definitely has it. We both have perfect pitch, too and I wonder if the two are connected.

mulberry7 Mon 13-Oct-25 18:27:34

All pinks.

Autumncolours Mon 13-Oct-25 17:25:30

A Gransnet synaesthesia club would be fun Esmay! I have various types of synaesthesia, including music Musicgirl. I believe it can run in families and realised my son shared this trait when he started screaming at me age 4 ‘Switch the radio off Mum, that music’s too brown’. 😀

Esmay Mon 13-Oct-25 16:57:48

Musicgirl-
You echo my thoughts.
Welcome to the Gransnet Synaesthesia Club !

Cherrytree59 Mon 13-Oct-25 16:51:44

Stripeygran and Esmay
I am not particularly artistic.
But do enjoy artist galleries and appreciate art..
I also see some days of the weeks as colours, Friday yellow and Sunday red.
The number seven is also red .

I will look into Synesthesia.
