Well a very late good morning to Mick and all GN's and actually it is good afternoon not good morning. I had a horrible night of cramp etc and was awake at 3am in quite a lot of pain, and struggling to find a comfortable way to sit. I sat in a chair and eventually went to sleep and then woke up after 7.30am, so missed Bach and your good selves and felt full of aches and pains and not at my best. So here I am catching up on all the news from everyone, finally up dressed and clean and in better frame of mind. I am going to be away for a few days, so dont know what the reception will be , so either miss it all, or will be able to read all your goings on, but not able to write back. Anyway will be home at the end of the week and hope to really enjoy some lovely autumn colours.
I went to meet my family and we had a good get together and I was able to give them the christmas presents to take back with them, promising not to open them in advance, but at least sure they have them. My son never got his birthday card at all, never mind late. Anyway it was good to see them and catch up with all the news and then I decided to drive up the far side of windermere and had a lovely meander through old haunts from when I was working for Nat Trust on that side and then had planned to go home from Ambleside, Windermere etc. Best laid plans!! Major crunch meant roads closed and double decker buses and stupid people who did not know the width of their car, driving up tiny roads to get to Kendal, so it was a very long drawn out trip back and somewhat shattered when I got home.
However I have recovered from that, got a few more things quickly planted in the borders, as they are promising frost at some point and things in little pots would get killed off. So even if I have to move them around later they are fine now, so a good effort made and pleased with what I have got done. Not so pleased when I found that the acer palmarton root had gone down through the hole in the bottom of the pot and now right into the ground. So I need to check up in my books and work out the best and safest time to carefully detach it and plant in the garden. Probably leave it as it is for now, but will see.
Missed Bach before 7 today, but cheers J S Bach is the composer of the week on radio 3 at 4pm, so shall be able to make up for lost time listening to that. Needed warmer trousers and jacket on today, but wont be able to walk very far today because my right leg is not good. But I shall put some coffee things together and go off into the countryside and enjoy the smells and sounds of autumn and carry on reading my Yorkshire Post magazine and do the crossword. What a decadent use of time!! Am not attempting to plan any serious job today as my leg will govern what I can do.
So it has been good to sit here and read all your posts and what you are all up to today. Good luck with your digital phone change over Mick and hope they dont find any problems today. GrandMattie, glad you are enjoying your holiday and enjoyed seeing your photo of the GNs get together.Karmalady, you are doing well with your organising for the allotment, I havent even really decided what is going in all the borders yet!! Susan56, could you stay over at your mothers house for anight? Just thinking that you could get quite a lot done if you stayed and didnt have to drive there and back both times! It is always a difficult thing going through stuff and I think even when you are fit physically it knocks the stuffing out of you having to make decisions and seeing old memories of things and times past. Re the night clothes query, could you try looking in a childrens department to see if there is something suitable, but also I would go and look in something like Mountain warehouse, where they tend to have warm and cosy night stuff for campers and hikers. Another area could be looking for the long johns that go under ski ing or sailing clothes and use them as pajamas . The third suggestion is to find possible short sleeved nightdress or pajama top, but have a warm fleecy bed jacket that could be put on and off easily, which would then be ok for a variety of temperatures. In winter I find it can go from reasonably warm until the heating goes off but if I wake up at 3am, it can be flipping freezing. You can also get (rather expensive but wonderful!) cashmere bed sox and gloves. So when I was camping, my sleeping bag was fine but I found the gloves worth having to be able to have my hands outside the bag, and they are easy to take on and off as and when it suits you. Hope one of these ideas might be of help to you.
Well time to get going and do a bit. Hope the day goes well for everyone and I am going to catch up with the posts from the last couple of days and get up to date. We have sun and dry here at the moment, but no idea what is to come. Enjoy your day everyone
