I read the title of this thread and thought that someone was reluctant about buying a postage stamp because of the exhorbitant price!!!!!

😂

PS I don't mean I ever pounce on light-hearted posts for the sake of it, Georgesgran. I know too well what it feels like to be on the receiving end!

I enjoy trivial posts, especially when posters laugh at themselves, so I would say, Do carry on Usedtobeblonde.

I enjoy serious threads too, they make me think and sometimes teach me to reevaluate my opinions.

I don't like posters being mean to others, I have always pounced or jumped-in on those occasions!

We do need fun and humour here.

I love a bit of trivia, but at the moment I’m noticing a lot of light-hearted posts are jumped on and criticized by a few (but vocal) GNs - or is that just my perception?

When my late DH was seriously ill and I also had health problems, I remember telling my sister in detail about a novel I was so enjoying,
“How can you concentrate?” she said. The truth is books have always been a refuge for me and we all need to escape into another world when we have troubles.

Thank you all.
You have made me think and yes, we do need humour and lightness in our lives.

What’s N&P please, Babs03?

kittylester Thu 16-Oct-25 14:27:22

I think it's sad that we have to specify that a thread is 'lighthearted' now.

Babs03 Thu 16-Oct-25 14:26:07

I think it is vice versa, I came off N&P because it is far too depressing and adversarial and I don’t have the headspace for it. A bit of harmless larking about is what we all need imho.

We need much more humour on this site generally.

Blossoming Thu 16-Oct-25 14:23:05

We need lighthearted moments to get us through the tough times.

Allira Thu 16-Oct-25 14:22:05

Yes, we need some lightheadedness, UTTB
😁

Babs03 Thu 16-Oct-25 14:20:02

I love funny lighthearted threads and am going through a really tough time right now but I find it lifts my spirits.
So more please. 🙏🏾

My memory of the hours following first my MiL's death and some year's later my sister's are sitting down and watching MiL's fvourite comedy programme and us all hugging and laughing out loud, and, after my sister's death, one of my other sister's cats getting their head caught in a sandwich bag as they tried to reach the crumbs aat the bottom and staggering round the kitchen like a drunk, until someone noticed and took it off. The laughter that engendered was such a relief.

I enjoy trivial posts but I also appreciate some of the more serious ones. The good think about GN is that it has a good mix of themes and a good mix of viewpoints.

Sago Thu 16-Oct-25 13:38:17

No, I think it’s always important to have some trivia.

Usedtobeblonde Thu 16-Oct-25 13:36:33

Does anyone else feel hesitant about starting a lighthearted or amusing thread because of the difficult and sad times some of our members are going through?
This morning I got myself in a real pickle, frustrating, potentially embarrassing and thought others might find it funny but then it seemed so trivial and I didn’t post it.
Is it in our nature to shield others or is it a case of life goes on and we must enjoy those moments and share them?
