My OH used to refer to my once- favourite dress as " your Hyacinth Bucket dress".

Was that actually you on the bike? It's a bit bigger than the BSA Bantam I used to ride! One result of things ageing was I suddenly found I could no longer get my leg over (the bike!)

I enjoy Countdown but the adverts that they deem appropriate for the viewers of a daytime programme.... Walk in baths, denture cleaners/fixatives, retirement homes, funeral plans and a Saga advert to lighten the mood. However, many years ago, we had an elderly neighbour who had just come back from a Saga holiday and joked with us that the letters stood for Sex and Games for the Aged. It certainly gave us a different perspective.

Some funny comments, keep’em coming - we need a laugh everyday and you get sick of all the misery on the news! 🍷

I don’t have a mental image of people who post on Gransnet, or on the dictionary/language website I spend most of my life on these days. In the latter case, it’s sometimes not even clear whether a fellow contributor is male or female, let alone how old they are (although there are quite a few who are obviously well over the hill, like me). But in the case of Gransnet, I do think it would be good to at least know the whereabouts of contributors — if only because sometimes someone is obviously in dire need of help or reassurance, or even just human contact, and knowing their location would allow those in the same area to reach out to them.

A person is always free to PM another offering help or contact gransnet admin to flag up a problem.

I don’t know- it might inhibit discussion if people could be located. There are some bad people out there , I wouldn’t be comfortable with it.

I am the same bolshie independant person I have always been. I have white hair now but what they dont know is that I was a redhead, and they certainly get a shock if they talk down to me, or think I am so gaga that I dont know what I am doing. So must look up gangsta granny, as someone told me - as a compliment I think - as I was on my yellow peril that I was like said gangsta granny. Must see if she is as stroppy as me! No that isnt true, I do always begin by expecting people I meet are decent and do as I would be done by. However woe betide those who make assumptions like the wretched sales man of about 25, when I went in to look at keyboards as mine is getting quite decrepid now. If he had asked "Do you need any help" in a polite tone, there would be no bother. However he said in a condescending tone ,"Do you know how to turn it on?" whereupon I told him that I had been running a circuit in overseas telegrams before he was born, was quite capable of deciding what I needed and if he needed any help I could explain in various languages!! He went rather red and backed off, whereupon I calmed down and suggested that he take people as he finds them and does not make assumptions based on the colour of their hair!! Remembering the lovely Patricia Routledge as Hetty Wainthrop, I am thinking of taking up a new career as a detective myself. If you are only seen as a little old lady reading a paper, you would be surprised at some of the conversations I hear going on around me in a cafe .
I was quite chuffed at my adventure to celebrate my 80th birthday, when I organised my trip to Canada and went on the rocky mountain express etc and onto the Athabasca glacier. So have no plans to become set in my ways, and at this time of year jobs can be abandoned if there is a sunny day, to scuff through the leaves, find conkers and make the most of whatever is worth doing, with the excuse that there will be plenty of miserable days later to tidy up or whatever.

When Gransnet began, I was 70 and seemed to be one of the younger contributors, though that may have been an illusion. I'm still here, not saying very much because I've probably said it all at one time or another. I've made friends over the years, some of whom I've met and others I feel I know very well though could be wrong about that. In a couple of weeks I'll be 85. Far from being a younger gran, I'm a genuine 'old timer'.
