Embarrassing moments that still haunt you

The other day my daughter asked me about my first visit to meet my then boyfriend’s parent’s (now husband). We were filling in gaps of our family knowledge. I explained that I was naturally eager to make a good impression. So when DH mum said time for a cuppa, I quickly offered to make it. I took the tea tray in with the tea already in the mugs, with milk jug and sugar bowl at the side. I bent over to put the tray on the coffee table and suddenly passed wind very loudly. I was so embarrassed, red in the face and beside myself. I proceeded to keep apologising. To this day 55 years later I still turn red faced when I think about it. Naturally my DD thought it was hilarious, but I reminded her that it was a very different time back then, when bodily functions etc were not always openly discussed or tolerated. I wonder have other Gransnetters had similar experiences that still bother you?

We were invited to spend Boxing Day with the family of my son’s girlfriend. We had only met them once before, several months previously. I rang their doorbell and a smiling lady opened it. I gave her a hug and said how lovely it was to see her again. To my horror a second lady then appeared who was, in fact, the mother of the girlfriend. The lady I had hugged was actually a family friend who was staying for a couple of days. I felt such a fool.

I was sent out to visit some customers along with the local sales rep. As I got out of his car my briefcase flew open and the whole contents of a packet of Tampax flew across the road. I could have died, especially as he helped me to gather them up! blush

This has happened to me more than once....I am wering skinny jeans or leggings. Then sitting in a meeting or giving a presentation and I feel the lump somewhere along my legs. It's yesterday's knickers caught inside from when pulled them off the night before. Good job GN is anonymous. I am in my 60s now and it happened a couple of months ago...i should have learned my lesson by now. (Don't judge me ladies!)

Franski It has happened to me too, during a movement class.

It also happened to a woman who was interviewing me for a job. Needless to say I didn't get the job.

You are not alone.

I was in my teens; we all overslept, I was going to be late for school. My mother said " I'll drive you, grab your clothes and get dressed in the car "

By the time we reached school I was fully dressed; but we were too late. The Head Teacher ( a very prim and proper spinster) was lying in wait for late girls and came marching on the warpath to intercept us.

My mother wound down her window, smiled and said goodmorning. Head T went scarlet.

Mother had not had time to get dressed, she just leapt into the car in nothing but her nightie. Which was a tarty number in totally see-through nylon.

It concealed absolutely nothing, she might as well have been stark naked.

In the 70s the fashion was very much for platform boots. I had some fabulous knee high boots with huge platforms and heels which I wore with mini skirts.

I had an opticians appointment so popped out of work. Once there I had to go downstairs for eye test. I somehow caught my heels on a step and fell from top to bottom. Tried to get up at bottom and struggled. Then realised both my feet were pointing upwards as both heels had sheared off completely. I pulled the boots off, took the eye test and rang work to borrow some shoes from a colleague. Trouble is I was a 5 and she was a 7! The staff in the opticians must have had a good laugh that day but I never forgot that.
