Sponge flan cases

I used to be able to buy a sponge flan case, fill it with cherry pie filling and clotted cream and everyone adored it.
My now adult Grandson is visiting soon and wants one and I can’t buy the cases anywhere.
If I make a Madeira cake and slice it can anyone tell me how to “glue the cut pieces together” to make the flan base please?

I’m sure you can still get them, as I think I saw them for sale.

Might have been Waitrose or Sainsbury

You could make your own - need to buy a sponge flan tin. Or perhaps make a thick sponge and cut the centre half out if you know what I mean😊

You can buy flan tins to make a sponge flan case if you can't find the sponge flans in a supermarket, but Tesco advertises the sponge flans too.

X post, I found a photo of one on Ebay but it wouldn't post.

I have one of these tins.
Basically you bake thr sponge case upside down.
I hope uou find one ready made though if that's what you want.

Haven’t been able to find them in my local supermarkets but found the cake tin online and ordered it. Thanks for your help folks.

Tesco sells the same brand.

I haven't seen them for ages .
It's great that you can still buy them .
I used to make fatless sponges and use them as flan bases .
They taste better .

Morrisons sell them but they don’t make them easy to find! I find them rather dry and unappetising so I have made my own for years now and if you have the right tin it’s very quick and easy but you need to use a non stick spray to make sure they come out of the tin in one piece. If it’s something you serve often I’d recommend you buy a tin.

Sorry. Didn’t see your post!

Homemade far nicer but if you need a shortcut, Asda sell them and are usually kept in the baking aisle.

My dear mum used to buy the ready made sponge flans in either Sainsbury's or Tesco, many years ago.
Opened a tin of peaches, drained juice and artfully arranged peaches in flan.
Tin of cream opened and spooned over the top (whatever happened to tinned cream, white & blue label if I recall correctly)

Sunday tea for dessert, following a salad. Heaven. Such happy memories.

This post has just reminded me of Quick Jel in 70s. grin

Agree buy the correct tin and make a Swiss roll, fat free sponge in it. Or even a Victoria sponge, all in one recipe works too

Good luck with your flan Gr8Dame!

Such memories - the peaches (sometimes mixed fruit cocktail) and the tinned cream! Gosh, that was the height of sophistication when I was young.

Yes, my Mum used to fill the flan case with drained tinned fruit (sometimes mandarin oranges) and use the juice with Quick Jel over the top. Plus a tin of Nestlé cream for Sunday tea.

i get them from Co-op often. like you i pop in fruit or fruit pie filling then pile whipped cream on. my mum used to do that and its always very popular at buffets

I would usually make a swiss roll sponge and put the cream and cherries in the middle, but I'm guessing your GS wants the real deal!

Saw tgem in Asda only this week whilst search for Ladies Fingers. I have a sponge flan case baking tin, must be 50 years old Check online sure they will still be available if you fancy a go. Sponge comes out much more substantial.

I just make a sponge cake. The centre dip automatically appears during baking! It's great filled with Angel Delight .....
