Call me an innocent abroad but - how is a starting age of 21 to be regulated or enforced? The legal age for consent is 16. Vote at 18, possibly 16 in the near future. Join the military at 16, police cadet at similar ages.

If it’s completely illegal for sex workers to be under the age of 21, then Virginia G would have been protected in part. Didn’t Maxwell and Epstein mainly operate in the USA? We can only implement our own protections here and not worldwide.

Child sex offenders like Epstein and Maxwell, as in all countries not only the USA, seek to recruit young, underage girls to coerce and sex traffic. Their clients have seek young, underage girls who have no sexual interest in adult consenting women, 21 years or older working in the adult sex industry. Giuffre was abused for the first time at 7 years old and recruited for sex trafficking after she ran away from an unhappy home life at the age of 14.

Regulation by way of a starting age of 21 for the adult sex industry in the UK will do absolutely NOTHING to protect vulnerable girls like Virginia. Neither will it ever stop adult men with an appetite to seek underage girls to meet their sexual needs. In short your proposal would not protect those vulnerable like Virginia as you stated in an earlier post.

It all depends on the punishment proposed for breaking the law, if there is one. Also on the ease with which young girls can report offenders. The support groups in place to help the young etc how much we actually care to stop this? LemonJam. Castration for repeat offenders.

There are already child sex trafficking etc laws in place in UK and USA with serious punitive outcomes for those caught. Regulating the consenting adult sex industry with a starting age of 21 will not deter child sex offenders in any way whatsoever.

They turned up in minutes but they picked her up for apparently soliciting and waved him on his way.The assault was dismissed.

Returning to the OP- Ferry28 I'm looking forward to hearing the outcome of the Metropolitan Police probe into Prince Andrew and his attempts to dish the dirt on Virginia Giuffre. Meanwhile he certainly does just keep giving.

An interesting article in the press today (sorry I'm fairly new to Gransnet, have only been posting for several months, have tried but have not successfully worked out how to upload a link ) about the mystery of his money making efforts and how he funds his lifestyle. He's been an outcast for some years now because of his association with Epstein yet has no visible means of financial support apart from his naval pension of around £20k a year. He could have lived on the income he received from the public purse, £249,000 a year as he retired the navy in 2001 and carried out good works as a diligent royal.

That seemingly did not sufficiently satisfy him. It has been alleged that he exploited his "Government Trade Representative" post since 2001 to gain access to wealthy people around the world to cut commercial deals to enrich himself further.

Evidently this is not part of current Met Police probe but is fascinating in itself as more things come to light....

There's quite a lot of insight into the Yorks' financial dealings. Most of it rather dubious.

I think Prince Andrew and his ex-wife are clinging on to royal life by their fingernails. Inevitably financial scrutiny will turn to their daughters. Again, the scrupulously researched book is somewhat damning towards them.

Each to their own I guess but Prince Andrew’s downfall seems to have turned up at the perfect time to divert attention from the grooming gang crisis. Or was this all my imagination?

I think it must be your imagination. The grooming scandal thread is one of the busiest on here and all TV channels have given it extensive news coverage.

It has frequently been the headline story on both printed and digital media.

It's more complicated than that. I don't think she would have been charged with anything as the police need evidence she was soliciting, unless it has changed since I worked for the vice squad. She was probably taken somewhere safe to check her age and if she'd been reported missing.

With men yes I've done the court paperwork where men have been arrested but you need evidence, not just that they are driving round. Usually it was a policewoman in plain clothes being approached by a man but he would have to make it clear he was wanting to buy sex and most men would talk in euphemisms so a lot of effort would go, the policewoman and probably a team of two watching from a distance to ensure she was safe, and not great results.

Making a case against pimps was even more time consuming.

It can all be done but do we have enough police, are we willing to pay for enough police, if you are burgled or mugged can you promise you won't complain about police wasting their time on what consenting adults are doing?

If he is proved to have had sex with underage girls, this means prison surely, then the monarchy would be finished. I think his wife is as bad. She should be investigated too. She didn't mind the money rolling in. The name of that plane they used, full of young girls going to an Island they had no way of leaving, it's vile. If it were my parents I would never see them again. .
