It's being reported that the Metropolitan Police has launched a probe into Prince Andrew. Apparently an email has emerged from him asking his protection officer (Met employed, tax payer funded) to investigate Virginia Guiffre in order, allegedly, to dish some dirt on her.

He's certainly the Prince who just keeps on giving.

StoneofDestiny Mon 20-Oct-25 20:48:18

It's a mystery why the police protection officers have not been brought in to substantiate or refute his claims before now! They have followed him and his family throughout his life at huge expense to taxpayers. They would be able to tell us if he had been at the pizza restaurant at the time he claimed he was, how often he met Epstein and Maxwell, what he did during the times he was with them, who was invited by him to the various parties at the various palaces etc. His movements will have been logged hour by hour - funny they have never been scrutinised. No doubt why £12 million was paid to stop the sorry sordid goings on coming before the court. How can anybody trust the Royals or The Police if some openness is not forced out.

StoneofDestiny Mon 20-Oct-25 20:54:37

why does it seem to be only Andrew who is being targeted
Epstein is dead. Maxwell is in prison. Trump is sitting on the Epstein Files.
Andrew has sucked money out of the public purse to 'protect him', yet he and Fergie have apparently evaded all scrutiny apart from that exposed by journalists!
Hope he's made to pay us our money back as the 'protection officers' have failed miserably or been forced by the Royals to stay silent.

he doesn’t receive protection from the country now

He does because he lives in a royal property on royal land.

No, only normal police presence for the area.

His protection is funded by his brother, the King; a private security firm and a security system installed but no protection officers funded by the taxpayer.

The public can wander freely round Windsor Great Park.
We used to take the DC there when they were young.

I wonder if the totem pole is still there?

But the public cannot enter the grounds of royal lodge. It is barely visible from the road or Park.
There is a wide cordon sanitaire...

And the French Crown Jewels were secure in The Louvre!!

I see Princess Margaret’s son is also on the Epstein plane list ,when will the “king” be investigated for his friendship with Savile and that dodgy pedo bishop who he housed after the stories were made public .
Seeems there’s a lot that’s rotten in the house of Windsor ,!Time the monarchy was dismantled it’s a medieval concept in a modern world

MayBee70 Mon 20-Oct-25 22:31:36

I’m actually more concerned that the President of America is involved in all this and Andrew*seems to be taking the limelight away from him.
*not that I’m not absolutely disgusted with the man.

Allira Mon 20-Oct-25 22:45:45

It's not up to the UK to investigate the POTUS, though.
That is for the Americans to sort out.

He's got a lease for another 50 odd years, if he can pay the rent he can't be kicked or dragged out.
And I'm sure him and fergie will be doing a tell all for the rent money soon enough.

When Frogmore Cottage was left empty there were lots of articles saying Charles wanted Andrew to move out of Royal Lodge and into Frogmore. The terms of Andrew’s lease state that he must keep Royal Lodge in good repair and some drastic repairs needed doing which Andrew couldn’t afford to do. This was while Queen Elizabeth was still alive so his finances may have improved when she died and perhaps the repairs have been done. Apparently Fergie has property in Mayfair which could be sold or they could live there.

Lots of prominent people were friends with Savile, Margaret Thatcher in particular who lobbied for his knighthood and Princess Diana as well. The extent of his crimes did not come to light until after he died.

StoneofDestiny Tue 21-Oct-25 09:04:27

Saville’s crimes were well known before his death - his connections kept him from the court. Thatcher was given warnings from MI5 and top politicians not to entitle him - she did what she wanted to do and ignored the warning.

Ferguson very recently sold the Belgravia house to the tenants.
I don't think they have many options, l can't imagine another country welcoming him and why should we expect them to.

He should be under police investigating of misappropriation of funds, misuse of taxpayers' money and embezzlement of charity funds (Pitch@thePalace where submitted accounts sho missing tens of thousands of pounds, not accounted for.

Oh dear.

I hope they have their names down for Kensington and Chelsea Council housing.
There is quite a long waiting list.

I believe that Prince William is keen to slim down the royals so that they are more in line with the European monarchies.

I personally thought that the coronation was way over the top and I found the huge military displays tasteless and anachronistic. The royals should stop appearing in military outfits with rows of medals. The sun has well and truly set on the British Empire.

The Windsors are probably no worse than previous houses but every generation seems to throw up bad apples. Do the British public really still believe in the divine right of Kings?

I have to say that King Charles may have benefited from all the Prince Andrew business as it draws attention away from the fact that, as Prince Charles, he and Camilla treated Princess Diana abominably. Admittedly Princess Diana went off the rails but only after finding out that Camilla had been Prince Charles's lover before and during the whole of his marriage to Princes Diana.

Can we really still justify supporting the royals' lavish lifestyle in this day and age, especially as some of them behave so appallingly?

Smileless2012 Tue 21-Oct-25 11:39:38

There hasn't been any attention paid to what happened between Charles and Diana for years Magenta and I don't agree that there's any justification for supporting our Royal family. You either do or you don't.

Allira Tue 21-Oct-25 11:39:57

😂😂😂

No-one has believed in that for centuries. Not since the Bill of Rights in 1689!

Oh, there are so many misconceptions about the rôle of the Monarchy, they are almost comical.

Aveline Tue 21-Oct-25 11:44:32

It was the Queen who forked out the $12 million for Guiffre to keep quiet for jubilee year.

Caleo Tue 21-Oct-25 11:49:59

To a certain extent the monarchy is worth its keep. Isn't a profit and loss account,s sort of spreadsheet the best way to justify the monarchy or not as the case may be?
I'm partial to all processions with horses and I would hope those can be retained.
Obviously the royal family members must be moral men and women as the monarchy to survive must be held in respect.

Allira Tue 21-Oct-25 11:54:26

I agree, Caleo

I think that a Constitutional Monarchy is preferable to a Republic and that they are good value for money.

Andrew will not be Monarch and he should be removed from the line of succession, as should Harry as he has voluntarily removed himself from Royal duties.

If we changed to a Republic I am sure that the cost to the public would soar.

friendlygingercat Tue 21-Oct-25 11:56:48

I was very critical of Camilla when Diana died. Then I learned more about how she and Charles were not allowed to marry and he was manipulated into proposing to Diana. How different things would have been had they married years ago.

I think she does a good job as queen and suits Charles. She is happy to tag along and does not try to overshadow him the way Diana did.

However no-one will ever replace QEII.

Caleo Tue 21-Oct-25 12:00:00

I understand Windsors are trained from infancy to be diplomats. International diplomacy is the main part of the Windsors' skill set.

It's a pity that the Windsors' private lives clash with their diplomatic gravitas. I wonder how that was allowed to happen and which individual allowed it to happen.

Smileless2012 Tue 21-Oct-25 12:10:07

Just as we are, they're responsible for the decisions and choices they make Caleo.

Maremia Tue 21-Oct-25 12:15:59

I do agree magenta about the medals on display at ceremonies. Especially when tbey are mixing with ordinary folk who actually did serve. Looks cringy. 🏅
