Good morning from a damp Bristol. It rained all day yesterday, but not sure if it did last night. We need the rain, but have forgotten what it’s like after the exceptionally dry summer. More is forecast today.
Yesterday was interesting. While at Tesco, I checked my phone for messages and saw one from the the occasional estate manager. My much anticipated spanking new working night storage heater due to be put in today, won’t. The installers’ van has broken down! 🤬 I first reported it to the manager in February, nothing was done. If it’s not done soon, it’ll be a cooold winter. I’m am not pleased!
The WI meeting was very interesting. A (female) journalist found out about all sorts of interesting women “who made Bristol”. Eg., in the early 1900s, a girl from a very poor background loved going to the cinema, some other cinema goers realised that she could read the titles so paid for her to go often, if she would read them for them…. She built up, a whole big group of attendees who couldn’t read either, etc.
DD telephoned; she never does. So I was a little anxious for the reason. She wanted to hear from me, also tell me that they were going away at half term, and she had a PCC meeting on Thursday. I normally dine there on Thursdays. I haven’t been for a fortnight. If I didn’t go this week, it will be 5 weeks without seeing/hearing from them. So be it. (I try very, very hard not to be needy, not to bother them, etc.)
Today, no heater! I’ve got to bake for the FAB cafe. I’ve got two meetings in the afternoon. One is a churchy thing I wouldn’t normally attend, but have been summoned as I’m on the PCC 🤨. The other is the “Later Life Hub”, including AgeUK. We shall be discussing the fete on 1st November, at which the vicar “kindly” volunteered me.
May all the mountaineers find a little chink of joy in their lives, especially fgt and md. 🌹🌷🌺

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Still dark in South Yorkshire but it looks rather damp. I had a very early start yesterday - out in the car at quarter to seven. Driving in the dark is a trial these days. It also made for a long day. Today I have a volunteer session at school and then must go back on the trail of an affordable car insurance quote. My present company are, as they say, ‘avin a larf!!
Have the best day you can, folks.

Bellasnana Tue 21-Oct-25 06:01:06

Good morning from Malta where a dry day with a high of 24°C is forecast.

Enjoyed having DGS2 yesterday. He was absolutely fine apart from a bit of a cough so we took him to a big play park where he had a good time.

He was asleep in the car when we got home so I carried him in and he had a two hour nap on the sofa before DD3 and his brother came to fetch him. They had a swimming lesson to go to.

DD1 in the US has been fostering a sweet little dog who had been in a high kill shelter. I don’t think she is going to be able to part with her now.

Not sure what we will do today.

grandMattie that’s a nuisance about your heater and upsetting that your family aren’t more appreciative of you. Wish you lived near me. 💐

Thinking of all of you and hoping the day goes well.☀️

karmalady Tue 21-Oct-25 06:06:52

Good morning from s somerset, it might be bright today and will definitely rain

A wonderful upbeat craft group session yesterday, I only did a few knitting stitches because I was enthralled by the animated lively talking with some 90 year olds, extremely knowledgeable clever people, about all sorts of topics.

I could go for a walk first today, it sets me up and I actually feel like jogging when I start but I don`t, in case people see, hence my fast pace. Head up, arms swinging but half an eye on the trip-hazard wonky pavements ahead

I`ll be gansey-knitting for the rest of the day and doing the daily chores, to keep my house nice

Have a good day

grandMattie Tue 21-Oct-25 06:20:51

Re.family, bellasnana, thank you. I knew from the start of moving here that it would be like that. My Philip was absolutely mine, the same way that DD was her dad’s.
Sad but not unexpected. I’m pragmatic about it all.

Grandmabatty Tue 21-Oct-25 06:24:30

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and wet. GrandMattie I'm annoyed on your behalf about the heater. Bellasnana that sounds like a nice time spent with dgs2.
Yesterday was good. The boys were well behaved and very cheery. It dried up and we spent some time in the garden before I took dgs1 to football training.
Today I'll take them to soft play. It breaks up the day for them (and me). This afternoon will be chilled. Last visit to the post office for money for the hedge removal man. Dinner will be chicken. The small chicken crown I bought on Sunday will do four days easily. Have a good day all.

RosesandLilac Tue 21-Oct-25 06:33:51

🤗 grandMattie, I rarely see my two DCs and messages are sporadic.
Good morning from soggy south Glos, it’s raining here.
I had a good time yesterday finishing my line and wash painting, I’m rather pleased with it! It’s so rare that I actually finish one let alone like it! I will start another today, mixed media is definitely my favourite style; no more struggling with ‘pure’ watercolour!
We had a very wet dog walk yesterday morning, it wasn’t raining when we left and it bucketed down halfway round and all the way back….my waterproof isn’t, I need to reproof it.
I went to Lidls with DH, he got his few bits then went and sat in the car leaving me to pay and pay and drag the trolley the length of the car park, in the pouring rain, because he’d parked as far away as was possible 🙄.
Thankfully there were few people in the store, so no queues for once.
Today I will walk Tink then housework before more art stuff, playing with acrylic inks today for the first time so anything could happen!
Hugs to all who could do with one 🤗🤗🌹

Susan56 Tue 21-Oct-25 06:42:41

Good morning from Shropshire.Another mixed forecast today.

Another day at home today.DH will be painting the kitchen.I am enjoying the unhurried pace of these quiet days like karma doing the daily chores and spending the afternoons reading.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🦩🌻

Ashcombe Tue 21-Oct-25 06:50:39

Good morning from a dark but dry Nogent le Bernard where we had strong breezes yesterday evening.

Now that DH no longer has weekly cleaner visits there is nobody to do the ironing, the one domestic task he hasn’t mastered. Yesterday, I caught up with the accumulated pile.
Later we watched all the Monday night quizzes on his laptop which we enjoyed.

Of my three children, only DD2 regularly rings me and that’s usually as a result of me suggesting that we have a chat while she drives to school, grandMattie. All three offspring of mine are too distant to visit easily, with DD1 living in Australia! It certainly lifts my spirits when we do have contact so I understand how you feel, especially with the loss of your DH and Philip then moving nearer to DD and family. I hope the heater arrives soon.

I too struggle with driving in the dark, Greyduster except on familiar roads near home. It can be awkward at our theatre at times when people want lifts after rehearsals in Winter months although I usually say my poor night vision prevents me driving across town after dark so they generally prefer not to risk it!

A good day to all. Thoughts with those in need, especially FGT and himself.

Good morning from Malta where we are forecast as Bellasnana says a warm , sunny day.
We have a free morning so will pop a few things back in the case before a stroll along the front . This afternoon there is a vineyard wine tasting trip.
Hoping today is kind to you all and especially those who are struggling with illnesses and other troubles.

kittylester Tue 21-Oct-25 07:05:34

Good morning all from a still dark North Leicestershire. I can't hear rain.

Today we are taking Wolfie birthday shopping - wish us luck. And, no doubt, McDonald's for lunch.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Redcar Tue 21-Oct-25 07:08:35

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s dark and I don’t know what the weather is doing. We had some very heavy showers yesterday, especially in the afternoon at school pickup time! I went for my usual walk in the morning, but got wet on the way back. Cleared my ‘to do’ list which was mainly admin and could be done sitting down.
Doctors this morning and then I’ll see my friend with dementia this afternoon.
grandmattie I hope your new storage heater will be delivered and installed soon.
Thinking of all those who are struggling in any way, I hope the day brings you some comfort.
Have the best day you can everyone.

dragonfly46 Tue 21-Oct-25 07:19:10

Good morning from a dark East Midlands. DH was not so good yesterday. I think the early progress lulled us into s sense of false security. His sister is coming to stay today so hoping he is feeling better.

Both my AC lived a distance away. I don’t hear from DD very often but we are always welcome there. DS is going through a very acrimonious separation so I hear from him daily and he is coming up at the weekend.

Wishing everyone the best day possible and FGTs DH is well enough to come home soon.

multicolourswapshop Tue 21-Oct-25 07:23:25

Good morning all from the east coast of Fife. I had the most perfect visit to Edinburgh, I went to the theatre to see the Elvis impersonators they were fabulous

Have a good day and stay safe

GrannyGravy13 Tue 21-Oct-25 07:24:12

Good morning, I can see the sun rising along with the clouds gathering.

The Imp is tucking into his breakfast (scrambled eggs, toast followed by yoghurt and fruit) he has to be at school at 8am. DH has the job of taking him (next door but one)

I would like to go to a favourite garden centre today, will see what DH is doing.

Thinking of our poorly friends (((hugs))) 🙋‍♀️

NannyJan53 Tue 21-Oct-25 07:26:37

Good morning from a grey and damp Black Country.

Rained held off most of the day yesterday, but I think it rained overnight

Attending a funeral today for a lady who was part of my Monday walking group. Very sad, she just collapsed and died at home.

That is just not on gM, a storage heater that you informed was not working in February is still not installed! I think making a fuss is called for.

Wishing you all the best day possible. Thinking especially of FGT's

brook2704 Tue 21-Oct-25 07:29:51

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s still dark but looks dry, yesterday we had some warmish sunshine in the afternoon which was very welcome
Hoping your DH is feeling a bit better today dragonfly
A quick visit to the gym this morning for an aerobics class then home as our visitors are arriving around lunchtime. If it’s dry hopefully a local walk with them this afternoon
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Georgesgran Tue 21-Oct-25 07:36:55

Good Morning from Durham. It’s not really light yet, but it’s dry with rain forecast later.
My day has changed as my friend can’t meet me this morning. so we’ve had to rearrange for Thursday, which is less convenient for me.
I have a chiropody appointment early afternoon today, so I can’t go far before that. I could pot up some pansies.
Yesterday’s physio was useful and just nerve entrapment diagnosed.
Both DDs are off work sick and DD1 has an MRI booked for next month. DD2 just has a heavy cold and it seems both DGSs are coughing and sneezing too.

Thinking of others with much worse things to worry them.

Best wishes to all. X

baubles Tue 21-Oct-25 07:37:56

Good morning from dark, damp South Lanarkshire.

I hope your heater is installed soon gM. It should be a matter of urgency.

Charity shop today followed by yarn group this evening. It’s a busy time, we’re up to our ears in crocheted angels for our Christmas giveaway.

Good wishes to all for today.

luluaugust Tue 21-Oct-25 07:41:50

Good morning from a brightening W Kent. Off to visit a friend for tea this morning and usual quiet afternoon. Apparently someone I have never heard of from the surgery is phoning me sometime between now and six o’clock tonight! I bet I’m driving when they call. Oh for the days……..
I do usually speak to my DC once a week but seeing them is more difficult as they all work full time. Not like me running around after my mum.
Best wishes to all

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 21-Oct-25 07:45:31

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

Yesterday was wet and dismal - but it is October and autumn!

My mouth ulcer is much improved. The numbing/antiseptic lotion suggested by the Pharmacist works a treat.

My three offspring all live in London. Our daughter comes home for a weekend every 6 weeks. We see her other times as well. I’ve just booked tickets to go to her Choir’s Christmas concert. We see elder son and his family slightly more frequently. Our granddaughter is coming to stay for a few days next week - it’s half term. Younger son has only been back once this year but he keeps in touch and we visit various art exhibitions in London. I’d love to see them more but they have very busy lives. I do feel though that me and OH are kept in the loop.

I am seeing friends this afternoon. Dave has his shooting club this evening - I’ll watch the bake off and Richard Cole’s who dunnit on channel 5.

Have a good day. Kind thoughts to the FGT2S. The stress must be shocking but isn’t it true that we’re never given more than we can cope with?🪻

Grammaretto Tue 21-Oct-25 07:46:36

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Overcast.
I went on the U3A walk yesterday. It was 7½ miles but mostly flat along the beautiful Tweed. The sun shone and we ate our picnics at one of the bridges. It was good to be back.

Today I have to do my presentation at Gaelic so will practice reading it.

My Helper leaves today. She posted some of my bric-a-brac on Facebook last night and already I'm being offered paltry amounts for some things.

As Ash says, gMattie after all you've been through, it's a shame DD isn't more supportive but because we have always been capable and independent, they aren't even thinking how their plan changes might affect us. Mine are similarly far too busy to contact their old mum let alone invite her to dinner.

I hope your heater will come today.
Have a good day everyone.
Here is a heron and a fly agaric.

Jaxjacky Tue 21-Oct-25 07:51:20

Morning from a dry, clear S Hants, we had more rain yesterday which was a quiet day on the voluntary phone. Quiz in the evening, one error on the last round meant losing second place, do you know what a Snickers bar was originally called? (Answer later!).
A walk today, update the phone stats and the voluntary group AGM tonight, as a driver MrJ will come too.
I’d be hopping about that heater gMattie.
Good you’ve found your happy painting Roses.

dragonfly having spent considerable time in hospital wards with Dh, I have come to the conclusion that there is often a dip in how patients are feeling on about the third day after surgery. It’s a sort of anticlimax before they start to pick up again. I do hope your Dh is better today and continues to improve and is home soon.
Thinking of you and the FGTs 💕
