When I went to open my bedroom curtains this morning I whipped them back as usual and the left hand curtain zoomed right off the end of the rail. The end stop has been broken for a while so I thought all I had to do was put the curtain back on and secure it in some way. But, no, the track is broken. I have ordered a replacement but know I will have to fix it myself as no tradesperson is likely to want to do such a small job.
When I finally came downstairs my back door lock jammed, leaving the door unlocked so I also urgently need a locksmith.
Then I fell over the cat and spilled my coffee all over the living room floor. It’s amazing how far one cup of coffee can spread!
I am now on the settee, nursing a bruised knee, scared to move.
In what ways have your days gone wrong?

They say things come in three’s, well, if they do, you’ve had yours for today!

Athrawes Wed 22-Oct-25 11:11:58

You poor thing. You come across as quite stoical whilst I'd be bawling my eyes out.
So far this year it's not been too bad as I have my granddaughter and her husband staying with us for a while which is lovely. That said though I've got lots of paperwork to deal with which I hate as I find it difficult to handle it. Luckily my husband helps but it still hovers above my head as I've not got a spritely brain - I'd rather read a book!

Last year, finding a man dead in the street wasn't a great day.

midgey Wed 22-Oct-25 11:33:28

Oh lord Kate1949 you upped the stakes there! That must have been horrendous.
Flippingheck don’t move all day! Good luck.

I have vertical blinds in my conservatory and they have been drawn back all summer to let us enjoy the garden, however yesterday I decided to pull them back. On doing theirs one the cord snapped and two of the slats fell off.
I had to wait for my S to come to fix it but I don’t think it will open again.
Small thing compared to some but I agree about the coffee spreading, a spilt pint of milk turns into a gallon when it goes under the fridge, the washer, the cupboards……

Usedtobeblonde Wed 22-Oct-25 11:46:52

Fat finger , on doing the third.

J52 Wed 22-Oct-25 12:05:28

Before you get a locksmith, liberally spray the lock with WD40. It should free the jam. Hope the rest is sorted.

Oh gosh! That must have been awful. I hope you are okay. Not easy to deal with something like that.

Still on the sofa, but the cat is giving me an evil stare. I think he needs to be fed. smile

Thank you. I have a can of that in the cupboard so will give it a try. So far no locksmith available until tomorrow.

Flippinheck. I know how to bring the mood down! It was last September. I posted about it at the time.

Flippinheck Wed 22-Oct-25 14:46:52

Yey! The WD40 has helped and the door is locked. Seems to be jammed again but at least it is secure.

Just be grateful you are able to get out of bed.

Things do seem to go in 3’s for me! Today was a great start-Not! My cat had been sick & woke me to tell me at 5am. So had to clear that up then tried going back to bed. Gave up after about an hour & then found the daily paper through the door soaked! Third was trying to close the window vents as a gale was blowing through! Need to grow about 18 inches in height as cant reach the kitchen windows. Only my son can & he wont be here till tomorrow! My 3 in a row all done I really hope🙏

Oh I feel for you I really do . I don't cope well when these things happen as I have to find a handyman who won't rip me off as has happened before.

3 weeks ago my humax tv box died so I had to have a tv company come out fit a new one and sort tv so I can watch again . £400 . I had forgotten I'd booked a small family company to come and clean my carpets as they so needed it after years of wear . I couldn't cancell at 7pm the night before when they rang to say they would be with me at 9am . £140 . Two days later I dropped a jar of coffee onto ceramic hob of cooker . Smashed and dangerous to use . Had to claim through home contents insurance as could not source a new glass for ceramic hob . Insurance deducted £150 excess from total and I had to pay £250 extra to buy another electric cooker . Thank goodness I'm a saver ( always have even if it was small amounts ) . I'm now walking on egg shells terrified what else is going to happen .

I’m sure an odd job man would come and do the job for you, as small as you feel they are Locally we have a chap who trades under the name of Rent a Husband and he even does lightbulb changing if needed I believe

That's not answering the question the OP asked.

MadameP Thu 23-Oct-25 15:00:12

I use the Next Door app to find tradesmen for small jobs. It’s worked every time.

Greciangirl Thu 23-Oct-25 15:00:26

Yes, plenty of odd job men around on your local Neighbourhood site.
Or advertising locally.

I have a marvellous retiree who is always a available for £10 per hour,

During the wee hours of one morning I stepped in goey entrails of a large dormouse that the cat had eaten near the toilet. (I don't switch on the light - the smoke detector has a small motion light sensor on it so I am ok in semi darkness but not this time!)

Another early morning the cat was sleeping on the toilet footmat and I tried on him. All hell broke loose and the loose mat (wood floor) and I went flying. Hubby heard the commotion and found me face down, winded. This was 2 days before a major operation so I had a few bruises to show on the op day. And a sore finger which still hurts over a month later (top middle finger, fleshy area above the bone between knuckle and joint.).🙄

TwinLolly Thu 23-Oct-25 15:56:20

Trod, not "tried" on him.

crazygranmda Thu 23-Oct-25 15:56:51

GS broke key off in front door, lock in side door no longer works and thirdly, I reversed into a wall!! Not been the best of weeks!

Applegran Thu 23-Oct-25 17:11:04

I hope tomorrow is better for everyone who has had a hard time.
