Tesco online .... or another?

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas to throw in.

I have shopped with Tesco online delivery services for many years. I choose them because I find the interface easy, they have a few items that I am not sure I can get elsewhere and also they have the option to add a note to each item (e.g. long eat by date please).

Also I could get hardware items like printer paper or party balloons in with my grocery order. They have now changed this and such things are there but they are available through a third party seller with a long delay and of course expensive postage (when I am already paying a delivery charge).

I was going to shop around a bit and see what I could find from other supermarket grocery delivery sites, but thought I might try the "shortcut" of gransnet in case anyone uses another site and can advise at all whether similar changes have happened there.

Thank you for your help with this.

My daughter gets her deliveries from Sainsbury, my best friend uses Waitrose. There have been minor problems with substitutions but they both seem quite happy. My son drives for Tesco so I see both sides of it. He always takes the shopping in for people who need help, and he carries treats for any resident dogs. Apparently his customers think he is very nice (they don't have to live with him of course!)

Tesco drivers are to start wearing bodycams.

Oh, I mustn't order an early delivery then!

I have just watched my neighbour get her Waitrose delivery, as she takes the items one at a time and carries them to the kitchen, delivery man kept at the door!

This must be her choice.
Waitrose will even put things in cupboards/fridges!

If Waitrose start, I’d better make sure I wash my hair and remember to wear make up🤣🤣

Ocado user here- I use the reserved order facility so same time every week unless I change it and have an annual midweek pass which costs me £49.99- works out at £4.17 per month- so just over £1 per month for deliveries., usually only 1 a week though.
Very reliable, get regular updates on delivery day regarding expected time of delivery during the 1 hr reserved slot and items are bagged. Bags can be returned and you get 10p back for each bag-total then taken off your bill, so if you returned 10 bags thats a £1 off!
I also like the fact they are partnered with M&S although did prefer Waitrose tbh, and the Ocado basic range called Everyday Savers is very reasonably priced so I do stock up with those items too. Highly recommend 👍🏻.

I’ve used Ocado for many years, and find them excellent. I have their midweek free delivery.

Tesco drivers are to start wearing bodycams.

They'll only activate them if they feel they are under threat, not all the time.

^Sainsbury's staff do not carry my groceries to the kitchen so now I place most items on a single sheet and pull it through as I do not have carpets or rugs^
That’s a poor show by Sainsbury’s.
Waitrose delivery drivers bring the crates into the kitchen, help me unpack on to the table, point out any subs and take back if necessary, pat the dog and wish me a friendly Good Day before going on their way.

Before they could do that because of Covid restrictions, we would have the shopping bags ready in the hall and would transfer the items from the crate to the bags.

The tesco guy brings the crates into my kitchen and unpacks them for me.

I have good Ocado delivery people.
They don't throw bags at me.

Fidelity2 Sat 25-Oct-25 00:15:06

You say you are already paying a delivery charge to Tesco ,but if your order is more than 50 pound it is free, or it used to be! I made an order once a fortnight so that I would reach that limit and get free delivery.

I used Tesco online delivery from the day they started it. £1000s a year spent.
Fell out with them when they let me down several times.
I used Sainsbury's now and once set up it's actually better. I can always get a slot and they seldom substitute.
Ocado are fine but significantly more expensive.

Dempie55 Fri 24-Oct-25 21:37:27

I’ve tried them all, but keep coming back to Waitrose. Drivers are prompt and courteous, unlike the Ocado lot who basically throw the bags at you! Sainsbury’s often have items unavailable, same with Morrison’s. No Tesco near me. Waitrose prices may be higher, but they have lots of offers and

Nobody has mentioned Iceland for home deliveries. I like their choice of frozen fish I have not had a delivery for a while as I go out on a Tuesday and can go I store to get the 10% discount. The site can be a bit confusing with their multi-buys. The drivers are friendly and helpful and take away the bags.

Tesco used to be a bit off a nuisance with silly substitutions or out of stock. Recently they have got much better hardly ever out of stock or substitutions. I think it varies a fair bit from branch to branch to be honest.

V3ra Thu 23-Oct-25 17:38:25

Luckygirl3 well that's a shame if that's the case ☹️

Luckygirl3 Thu 23-Oct-25 17:36:36

Unfortunately Ocado do not deliver in my area which is very frustrating as I love M&S stuff.

I shop online with Tesco and have my printer paper delivered with everything else.

Search for "printer paper."

There are 23 products.

Click on the "Filter" button.

Click on "Tesco and Marketplace."

There are 19 Marketplace items and 4 Tesco items.

Click on the box that says "Tesco."

These items can be ordered and delivered with your normal shopping, at no extra delivery charge.

Hope that helps!

That is very interesting and thank you.
I have tried going into the filters and doing as you advised, but I do not get the same result. There are only marketplace options.
I wonder if what is available differs in different areas of the UK - I can see no other explanation.

Watching to see if anyone has found a way round being made to wait for days for a delivery. It's basically only Tesco round here and the one a neighbour has (Asda) and I don't understand why - ie because they don't deliver to this area and I couldnt figure out how to contact them to say "You obviously do - as she gets your deliveries and I'm only feet away - so obviously I do too if I choose".

I've checked out online goods more than once and think "I should be fine" but nope.....especially as I won't wait in for deliveries.

I feel a bit stuck between a rock and a hard place:
- as I'm used to a wide choice of foods and can't get a lot I regard as everyday where I am now
- I'm not used to waiting in for deliveries (cue I've got Amazon and the like "trained" by now that I don't wait in specially for anything and where to leave them) and so I order all regular-but-I-cant-get-them here things I can find on Amazon (but it's still not got a lot of stuff and some things are a lot dearer from them).

Has anyone found a delivery service that's reliable/delivers soon/has a huge selection of vegetarian organic stuff and covers the whole country (even remote little towns in Wales)?
I'm basically after Waitrose-on-wheels or a wholefood supermarket-on-wheels.

labazs Thu 23-Oct-25 15:31:57

i used Asda for years but they have got really bad. sometimes nearly half my order was substitutes and often things that i could not use ie my vegan items were changed to meat based items. twice they did not turn up and I had to go through a bad process to get my money back.
we do have a Tesco here but i hate instore shopping mainly due to my anxiety the whole place freaks me out when i get to the door. I do the online Tesco and they were really good no substitutes on time good lot of goods.
i have only once order non grocery order that was some wine glasses for a gift but they arrived with the groceries ok. it must be pain items not being delivered same time

Grandmotherto8 Thu 23-Oct-25 15:29:41

I use Waitrose for my main shop, but also get a monthly delivery from Ocado for M&S products. Both are very good and Ocado hardly ever has to substitute any item.

Glenfinnan Thu 23-Oct-25 15:22:45

I use Ocado … pay £8.99 a month which gives me multiple deliveries a week ( if I need it … although I usually only have 1 delivery a week) they stock M/S food which is good. I start my order early and add to it during the week … picking up ‘flash sale items’ before placing my final order.
