The perfect house warming present

As most people know we have jusst moved house and today my sister and husband caame to see the house, staggering under the bulk of a huge box, containing our housewarming present.

They explained that as people who have down sized and are getting rid of stuff rather than acquiring it, they did not want to start adding to our possessions again

Greatly intrigued DH and I took the wrapping off the box - and there it was a whole big box of 'Mind the crap' toilet paper, 48 rolls. Enough to see us through the foreseeable future.

My response was what a brilliant idea, we are really truly grateful for it. Something useful, unexpected and amusing.

Anyone else had strange but useful housewarming presents?

Sounds like a good practical house warming gift Monica. I will be interested to know what you think of the loo roll. I've seen it at a relative's house and I thought it looked very thin. You will be pleased to hear that I have exchanged contracts today. Such a relief to have the stress behind me. smile

I think I would have preferred 48 bottles of wine grin

I think it's a crap present!

wink

And every time you ‘go’ you’ll be reminded of your sister and BIL 😊

I get Who Gives a Crap, the 3ply variety.
More densely wound rolls which last a lot longer, but probably not quite as luxurious as some of the premier quilted brands. However, the boxes are delivered to the door and I have room to store them, so it’s a win-win for me.

I think Tesco is now selling it.

I buy them too apparently made of Bamboo. Been using them for several years, I have no complaints.
Tbh it's a good idea as a House warming gift. I have given in the past, crazy front door mats and Garden Gnomes.

Isn’t it “Who Gives a Crap” or has the London Underground got in on the act?

Chocolatelovinggran Fri 24-Oct-25 21:29:43

Great present - and the profits are used to benefit others.
Wine would be good, too , but I'd give the gnomes a miss, thanks.

Congratulations Aldom!

Yes, it is. i couldn't remember and I was too lazy to get off my chair and walk into the living room to check.

Talking of thin loo paper, it all seems to be so thin lately! At least anything we buy is - I don’t go for any quilted stuff.

ViceVersa Sat 25-Oct-25 12:10:05

We got two free rolls of that toilet paper and I wasn't particularly impressed by it, much thinner than the stuff we normally buy (we buy in bulk from Costco - their own Kirkland brand).

That would be my kind of gift, ‘ever so practical’ as my husband says 😊 can’t have too many loo rolls.

Does anyone remember Bronco and Izal?

Jaxjacky Sat 25-Oct-25 15:49:34

We bought my daughter, son will get similar, a box of ‘items’ From memory, tea towels, w.up liquid, scourers, toilet roll, k roll, light bulbs, soap, washing powder and other bits. Plus one of those carrier bag Indian meals for two, tea, coffee, milk and a four pack of beer.

Its our sixth house and we are downsizing, so most of the ordinary things of everyday living we have.

Thanks to endless de;lays by the central heating contractor, we have yet to move in as the house is unheated, so we are staying with our DD.

I have clear memories of Bronco and Izal toilet rolls. Even writing about it conjures up the smell of disinfectant that waffted from the harsh sheets of tissue (tracing) paper! 😂

Grammaretto Sun 26-Oct-25 17:30:21

Great present M0nica!
Wishing you well in your new home.

I guess izal and bronco were marginally better than newspaper which was resorted to in wartime and beyond.

Good news Aldom smile

M0nica Mon 27-Oct-25 09:24:50

Newspaper was always kinder that Izal and Bronco. It was softer!

Margo Leadbetter would have insisted on The Times....

Our best house warming prezzie was a small black kitten in a paper carrier bag in 1973. The person giving it had checked with my husband first, but it was a great surprise to me when he jumped out of the bag. He turned out to be the sweetest natured cat ever..
