grandMattie I'm afraid I would have downed tools and walked out yesterday, never to return; well not until fulsome apologies had beem made and the dragon severely told off at the very least.

I struggled getting onto Gransnet yesterday as the website wasn’t loading. Other websites were fine. Did anyone else have problems? This morning the home page is giving a ‘missing template’ error but the forums seem OK.

MrB and I have been for our now becoming habitual morning walk around the Dock. The sunshine is glorious and we are making the most of it while we can. Carpe diem, as some might say.

Good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast. DD left for the south yesterday after a busy time socialising with old friends and helping me give the final touches to the newly decorated bedroom. It needs a couple of paintings I’ll do myself on a coastal theme. She drives up and down the motorway as if it’s round the corner. Long FaceTime with sister in the south who has just put in a new kitchen with the upheaval that goes along with it.

I fell asleep in the chair last night watching the Forsytes (all optics but I’ll carry on with it) I’m having a lot of nightmares lately.
More music practice today and tonight maybe to friend’s open mic.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. There is a beautiful blue sky and little rain forecast. OH made the decision last night not to sell honey at the Car Boot Sale. I think the main reason may be that we have to be out of the house by 7 am! He’s popping into a local pub later in the week to drop some honey off for them to sell from the bar.

We got a lot of admin done yesterday. We couldn’t find one of the documents required which was dated from 1986! I’m usually pretty good at keeping paperwork in order - I have a purple filing cabinet.

We are having a late lunch out today. I’d arranged it when I thought we were going to the Car Boot sale.

GM - there is always one bossy/unhelpful/entitled person isn’t there! Particularly nasty that Iris was upset. That’s not good enough. In your place I would have a quiet word with the vicar and let him know what happened and maybe he could suggest someone else could do all that you do.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is set to be a dry day. I am late on parade today as I slept well last night, having gone to bed at 9.30, except for an awful nightmare where the floor was collapsing and I couldn’t move and woke up screaming!
DS came down for the day yesterday and I cooked him a very nice lunch, in return for which he finally sorted out the curtain pole in the living room and rehung my curtains. He also checked the tyres on my car.
Today DD, GS and SiL are coming over to take me out to lunch. Apart from that, I have a restful day.

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
A glorious sunny autumn day.
My drive home from the Highlands yesterday was B awful. Took exactly twice as long as usual. Accident on M9 and roadworks.

The DGD are a delight as usual and don't squabble as much as they used to. They have their own friends too which is better.

Still my mercy mission was appreciated and DD is feeling much better and can function without excruciating back pain.

They now have turkeys to add to their menagerie.

Today is Quakers here so I will light the fire and make soup.

Good grief gMattie I think I would pay £400 to not organise a fête. Especially the blanking of young Iris. That's unforgivable. It isn't Christian is it?

Sorry about your wee boy Grandmabatty and for you too.

I have another cold but otherwise nothing horrible.

Good morning Mick and all GN's from a dry chilly North Yorkshire. I did wake up at the annoying time of 3.45am, but then eventually drifted back off to sleep and managed to stay asleep until just after 7. So pleased for the extra sleep but annoyed that I missed Bach before 7 of course.

Well expected to be in a worse state than I am as spent most of yesterday exploring a bit of Durham. The forecast had been for a sunny start but turning to rain and quite heavy showers for the afternoon, so went off early leaving the mess behind to make the most of the good weather. Went to the park and ride, and then annoyingly my bus pass seems to have disappeard, so must find it for future occasions. Anyway , good to be going in on the bus, as you can look round and I always look up in cities to see the roof and the architecture which is often revealing of earlier times. There were some beautiful places, some georgian by the looks of them and wonderful different lights over doorways. Thought the bus went onto one more stop and sat still in the seat , then realized that everyone was getting off and checked with the driver, and sure enough this was the best stop for the centre. So it was a very slow uphill walk, pausing to look around as I went. Got to near the indoor market, and there was also stalls in the open too. Dont know whether they are always there or just saturday. There was all sorts and enjoyed wandering about, buying some lovely home made coffee cake (my favourite) and scones from a charity stall. Lots going on, a young man in raf uniform sorting out his troops for poppy selling and explaining the plans for the remembrance service with people. A lot of shops of interest to me all in a reasonably close area, fruit veg, all sorts of bits and pieces, kitchen stuff, where I searched in vain for the particular make that I like for washing my cashmere by hand. I fear it has gone for good, as things seem to do these days, where they think that writing NEW on something encourages you to buy. NOT ME! I like tried and trusted. Anyway lots to see but of course a great deal of time spent in , what else? book shops. The waterstones nearest me is pleasant with lots of helpful people but it is on 2 levels and the poetry section is up stairs that I cant manage any longer. The staff are always willing to go and get something for me , but that is not the same as looking for yourself. It is an old listed building so they are not allowed to put a lift in or anything.

So, ah ha! Durham wins the prize for accessibility, as all the things I want are on the ground floor. Even nicer the poetry section is in a little bay of its own complete with seat, which I was able to claim for myself. Ah what riches to sit in comfort and within arms reach of so many already loved and new books and authors to enjoy. Think child in a sweetie shop! Not only that but other people who come there are of my tribe, and we speak the same language books and poetry and music. There was even a lady , same name as me, and even same spelling, a professor I gathered looking for a couple of the shortlisted T S Elliot prize. We were both able to pass on a new author to consider to each other, and were both triumphant in finding something we wanted. I emerged with a great book of Benjamin Zephenaih called Dis Poetry. I have always loved his work, think he was a lovely person and enjoyed much of his work. He was a vegetarian or vegan , not sure which , but wrote a great poem that I enjoyed which I think was called Just Talk to your Turkey this Christmas. You might enjoy it if you find it. I did. Then another person in that section told me of a different book shop, where they sold a lot of second hand books of all sorts where the money goes to charity etc. My favourite type of bookshop as these shops you never know what you will find and yes I found a Getrude Jeycell book, so then had to leave quickly before I spent , as Jenny Joseph would say, what I had , and say that there is no money for butter etc etc. So very happy with my trophies and the weather had a couple of showers but stuck my mac on quickly and no problem and then went into the indoor market and looked about a bit and then up to their cafe for a very good thin beefsteak roll with mushrooms and onions and a coffee. There was so much more I would have wished to look at but commonsense (not something I usually use!) said that I was already struggling and needed to get back to the bus and the car where I could have a rest. So duly plodded down to the bus stop and waved goodbye to durham for the moment. There are so many trees and the river and this is the kind of city I like, more compact with still some nature to enjoy. Of course I will be back another day soon, and there is the Botanical Gardens to enjoy, when I can walk a bit farther. The autumn colours were beautiful and whilst my back is of course complaining , it is not as bad as expected, so contrary to your natural instincts to sit down when your back hurts, I think I must experiment and try and walk a bit longer to find the optimum benefit from walking. All the news now is how a longer walk is better than 2 or 3 smaller walks, which may be true, but I have no chance to go for a half hour walk at speed, so shall just do what I can . Anyway getting out in the garden and looking at plants and wandering along past peoples gardens enjoying their efforts too is good and calming too. So not really sure what I am going to do today, apart from of course listening to radio 3 and 4 and of course hearing DID and Private Passions. Havent even seen who the subjects are so far. If it stays dry I shall at least wander round the gardens here and ignore the ironing still awaiting my attention. I have done quite a bit and now have several choices of trousers and tops and a fortnights worth of underwear ready so if the weather deteriorates I shall listen to my programmes whilst tackling more of the ironing mountain. Other than sorting out food, I plan to sit and enjoy my new poetry book as didnt manage to get The Yorkshire Post yesterday. In the far reaches of county durham they didnt have one available!!

Mick , hope the cycling goes well today and you must have enjoyed your team winning yesterday. I have a booked phone call about my diabetes on I think the 11th, but if it is like last time they asked various things and then still wanted me to go in for a check, so seems a bit pointless. Ah well see what they say this time. I am not expecting to get moaned at much this time, as with occasional treats I have been keeping reasonably to a decent diet. Every so often I realize that I am veering off from a good pattern, and go back to my diabetes pamphlets to remind myself about whether what I am eating at present is quite good. Gets boring though , doesnt it having to check up again and again! As they say so many people have diabetes these days I am surprised that some enterprising person hasnt opened a chain of cafes supplying delicious but appropriate food. It would be rather like going to a kosher restaurant, where you know that you dont have to scrutinize everything but can just choose what you like from the menu! Karmalady, you are making a splendid job of your cupboard , and sorting so many things out. Oh I wish I had a Tardis and could transport you to my flat, where I am sure you would have many sensible suggestions as to how I could get more efficiently organised. ! Instead I should take your post as a nudge to myself to make more of an effort. The next horrible cold or rainy day, I shall at least begin to do something practical. GrandMattie, you should have a halo for being so good at the wretched fete, and when they told Iris that she wasnt doing the raffle , if I had been you I would have taken my coat and left with them. That added insult to injury after a very trying morning. I wouldnt be surprised if you just told them that you have finished and done more than your fair share of work for their flipping fetes and occasions. Alternatively you could insist that if you are kind enough to even consider doing any more for the less than grateful people that the organiser of whatever , must stay with you until the dragon appears and soundly warn her off. You serenely carry on cooking or organising and leave the organiser to bar the door to the dragon, (possibly with a bucket of water to put out the flames!) If not then should she enter the kitchen, simply quietly walk out and leave it, hopefully with toast burning or whatever and show that you will no longer put up with this browbeating and disgraceful behaviour not only from them but your vicar seems only capable of handing out jobs to you without ensuring you have the means and the peace and quiet to carry on. Doing a poor job of something is not in your nature, and it is too stressful to complete a long job, without constant interference or last minute changes. If you start a job and the vicar comes and says you need to be elsewhere, hand him a teatowel or a key or whatever and say let me know when you have moved everything over and I will be back!! They are really taking advantage of your kind nature and you do so much baking for them etc that they are behaving in a very rude and selfish way , and do not seem to appreciate all you do for them. Time to sit with a coffee and think what level of things you could do without exhausting yourself, which jobs you like and which you do not, and then declare that in future you are happy to continue to do A and B, but that is all. If they do not thankyou for all your efforts and make some start to making things easier for you, I am sure that there are many other people, charities, groups who would be delighted to gain such a treasure as yourself, and would appreciate all you do. Grandmabatty hoping all goes well with the operation and that things begin to improve for both him and his brother. RoseandLilac sounds as though you had a good day and great that you sold your machine. Well I have been very slow getting going but the sun is shining now and looks quite nice but chilly, so time to creak to my feet, and stick my nose out and enjoy the autumn colours. Your comment about your DH made us both laugh, Pantglas2! But your experience with the dragon was unforgivable, grandMattie, especially the insensitive way in which Iris was treated. What is wrong with people?

I found plenty to laugh about in the comedy show last night delivered by The Two Mr.P's, as did the full house of mainly female teaching staff. As it took place in a nearby theatre, DH met me afterwards so we could enjoy a drink at our favourite pub nearby. This led to a very late night by our standards hence me being late here.

Such a pity you had such a stressful day, yesterday GM, I echo Aldom"s advice, you sound very upset. It hurt isn't worth it.
I used to be under the same pressure, but fortunately, we all work as a team and cutting back on physical duties has allowed me to stay involved.
Poor Iris must have been so disappointed, we usually have a table at the door to sell tickets. Knowing Iris' circumstances, they could have arranged this or was it a breakdown in communication an they were unaware Iris was coming?

Georgesgran, what a dreadful situation for your daughter and the impact on everyone must be so stressfu I hope it is resolved soon.

This morning, I am going to Mass. I don't feel great, but we have five priests and the Deacon on the, altar plus the fidgety altar servers,
The chief sacristan ( in name only) will be panicking, so I'm off to keep them in line and try and avoid chaos.
For Safeguarding issues, the details of all visiting clergy must be recorded and they have to show their Celebret.
I messaged the P,P last night, not surprisingly, he had forgotten this had to be done.

Last night there was anarchy, regarding tickets for our fundraiser afternoon tea. People had ordered tickets, but the person with the tickets hadn't left them to be collected.😡
I spent part of my evening, sorting it out. She has promised to come to Mass this morning, I always get the flak for others' incompetence.
I just smile sweetly (while biting my tongue) and promise to sort it. 😉

On my way home, I need to buy a kettle.
Last night as I was switching it off, a large blue spark emanated from the switch, burning my finger.😱
I let out a scream, which was heard by no-one. 😡 Why would he hear, he was in bed reading his book and engrossed in it. Nothing to do with being deaf!!!

Good morning all and it’s raining and dark here 8n Essex. It should clear up later.

Today ds1 and DIL will pop in for coffee this morning and later Dd and DGD will come for lunch. No roast today but some nice sausages from the butcher with veg and mash., dgd’s favourite. (Picky eater).

My eye is still sore after 10 days post cataract op. Prickly and red. I’m supposed to go back this week but haven’t been given an appointment yet.. I’ll give them a call tomorrow.

Bellasnanna enjoy having the little dog for company. Sad about the canary. I hate seeing any animals in cages. My DIL always had a budgie but let it fly around the house. One day it made a bid for freedom, and settled at the top of a nearby tree. She climbed a ladder and ‘rescued’ him. I was so sad for him.

DIL’s mother has an aviary and I can’t bear to look at those poor birds, who should be flying high.

Good morning everyone from a cloudy and damp Northampton, hopefully also no more rain today.

Busy day yesterday; a dance get-together in the morning followed by rugby late afternoon. It was a good event with our dance teacher's other classes from other areas of town. We have all been learning the same routines and so could all dance together. We ran through each dance twice, and as I am doing tap and ballet, four of each, so I ended up dancing 16 times! Hot drinks and biscuits were provided, so a nice chatty morning as well.

Then home for a break, and had a late lunch/early dinner before setting out on the bus for a rugby match; I managed to catch the first half of the England/Australia game on tv before leaving.
It was a good day at the office for my team as we beat our opponents 26-17.

Was home by 8pm, and watched the second half of the England match on tv. Then promptly fell asleep in the armchair, waking up at 11.30, just in time to go to bed!

DD-out-law is calling in this morning to pick up DGD2's school trousers which I have mended, and I have asked her to give me a lift to the shops, as the buses are unreliable on Sundays. I need a few things for the week ahead.

The sun 🌞 has just come out and we have blue skies and brilliant sunshine 🌞🌞!

Good morning all from the east coast of Fife where my ring doorbell shows me its very bright out there, however I’m feeling quite cold and the gas centre heating has kicked in.
it’ll be a shower when my carer comes in around 9am, I’ll wash my hair too.
Susan56 my friends live in Ludlow and I visited Richards castle when I stayed with them. It’s a beautiful place. They live in an old farm house which is in need of repair as it smells quite musty. They’re a lovely couple. We we’re at their wedding 58 yrs ago.

I’ll be going to church today taking a lovely bag of food for the homeless. My church opens its doors on a Wednesday afternoon to feed the poor.

We will have a pottering morning and prepare this evening’s dinner. DH will collect his Mum early afternoon and she will spend a couple of hours putting thee world to rights with her friend who lives next door to us. She’ll have dinner here and then return home.

Our next door neighbours had a Karaoke 40th party last night. As they, and lots of their friends, are professional singers or musical theatre actors it became quite loud as the night wore on.

Good Morning from a still, greyish Durham, but brightening since I began this. What a day yesterday, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. DD2 ordered her new Motability car, but her existing car has failed its MOT (badly) so she’s stuck at home! Her DH has caught her cold, fingers crossed it’s not her Covid, but I’m not allowed to drive his car and of course, she can’t. In addition my car is too small to take her, her wheelchair and DGS2 at the same time. To help out a little, I’ve brought Little Dog out of the mix to stay with me during this drama. It’s pointless second guessing what will happen, until the garage service department opens tomorrow. You couldn’t make it up!
A similarly frustrating day for gM too - I might have thrown in the apron, stormed off and left the dragon to it, but I guess that wouldn’t have helped the Church funds.
I need a few items of shopping today, but I’ll head to DD2s when asked to help out with her DH and DGS2. I’m far from over my own cold, but needs must.

We enjoyed our couple of days in Ludlow.Would definitely recommend for a mini break Pantglas.

As the sun will warm the conservatory I will do a couple of loads of washing as it will dry quickly in there.Then off to visit mum.Hoping for a good visit.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex where it’s just started raining. I think it’s supposed to clear during the morning. Yesterday was a sunny day until early evening when we had more rain. A few fireworks going off during the evening, no doubt there’ll be a lot more this week.
DD1 and family visited in the morning and my son in law did a few things for me, mainly putting unused items onto high shelves for me.
After they’d left I finally planted the last of the bulbs into pots. They’ll be well watered in by now.
grandmattie what a shame that you had to have a showdown with the dragon and sad that Iris wasn’t able to help out.

grandmabatty I hope that your dgs2’s surgery goes smoothly today and that he will soon be home. Dgs1 must be very upset about his brother, but I’m sure that some one to one time with you will help him.

This afternoon I’m off with my pal to the sports pavilion near the gym as there’s a line dancing social event with live music, bar and snacks etc. Most of the ladies from the line dancing classes are going so it’ll be good to catch up with them all and have a good chat. I must say these line dancing ladies are a very sociable friendly group and organise lots of events.
Your dad sounds like he’s got such an adventurous spirit pantglas well done to him

My daughter and I will visit my new home later. I need to make decisions about placing furniture.
The removal van is due here from Oxfordshire at 9.30 Monday.
GM you sound worn out. Do you think perhaps you should do a bit less of this catering for the church? I don't think the vicar should expect so much from you.
I felt very sorry for Iris.

Morning Mick, morning All from a dreary looking corner of Somerset. There may be a glimpse of sun today.

Lunch was excellent yesterday, the staff as welcoming as ever. The traffic was dire, motorway at a standstill with many cross and careless drivers on the minor roads. We’d forgotten it was the end of half term week, oh foolish us.

We’ll have the company of a friend today, (the daughter of the recently deceased couple) lunch is organised other than vegetables. She knows not to expect anything complex!

Goodness grandmattie what an unpleasant experience, for Iris too. No wonder you’re tired.

You’ll be tired too grandmab after an anxious day. A wish from here that all goes smoothly and the little boys will be back together soon. Love to all.

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is raining but should clear shortly. I have been reading with dismay the stabbings on the train which was stopped at Huntingdon yesterday evening. This is my local station. Another horrifying incident. My heart goes out to all those involved.

Yesterday evening we went to the firework display in DD2’s village with the little ones. It was a lovely display and the heavy rain stopped just in time. There was an enormous bonfire to help keep us all warm. Why do my dgc refuses to wear their coats and when they are persuaded (bribed)) into them refuse to do them up dangling them off their shoulders!! Do they just not feel the cold or know it is annoying me😳 They can be little monsters at times!!
Anyway back home for fish & chips and a Prosecco cheered me!

Very impressive storage Karmalady. I have added to my to do list organise my food storage cupboards. I think I just need more space!
