That is the job polititians choose, there is always some smart expert who says you are doing the wrong thing, all you can do is stand by your convictions. Of course the need to get elected leads most to compromise on what needs doing, plenty of examples of that in the last 25+ yrs.

I wouldn’t want to be in her position - damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Constantly being criticises, with a fair bit of justification I suppose but re her appearance is a bit much - she’s not a fashion model so who cares what her hair is like?

It doesn’t help that she’s dealing with manifesto promises that were naive even before the current war issues, considering the continual criticism of the mess the Tories were making including a black hole,

But criticising Boris for his hair set a precedent for judging people in power by their hairstyles and it’s come back to bite her on the bum!

I thought her hair looked alright, am more interested in her policies as Chancellor.

Yes they do sound alike, it’s a nasal sort of speech as if the adenoids need removing.

And why is the Autumn Budget so late?
Not much Christmas cheer, by the sounds of it.

Because sterling is sliding and reduce the shock of tax rises to come, they are going to break the election promises.

If they are going to maintain the high level of social spending they have to increase taxes because any economic growth is a long term aim.
Having decided to break their election promises there are going to be several changes, the tactic seems to be to increase investor confidence which will reduce debt interest cost. That alone will help all of us with mortgages and loans.

Why are we surprised they are going back on promises, they are polititians.

RR speaks in press conference at 8.10am on a windy November morning that is televised. Her hair previously was shorter and appeared more groomed but not so this morning apparently. In all those circumstances that is evidence that the stress of the job is getting to RR- really?!

Boris must have been in a poor mental state throughout his political career- poor lamb....

Boris’s hair was intentional. It stayed messy throughout.
That’s different from being well groomed, going to (I think someone mentioned on here) not having time to do it.

I want people to understand the choices we are making
i.e. we are breaking our pre election promises.
Let’s not call it austerity, let’s say we’re choosing to break our manifest promise.

That aside maybe she is a mimic - picks up other speech characteristics easily.

One day, StripeyGran, some historian will riffle through posts on forums like this in order to get some idea of what people were like at this time. It does make you wonder what conclusions they will come to.

Why on earth are we having these pre budget addresses? What is the point? It would have been much better to stop all the leaks and misinformation by not having such a long lead in to the budget. Why is it so late in the year - maybe because she has no idea what to do? Next it will be announced on a Friday afternoon so people have time to 'get over it' before work starts again on Monday. I despair.
On a lighter note, has she had speech training, (like Mrs Thatcher) her voice was different, not as deep and abrasive as usual and she's obviously been told to smile too.

She looks to me like a woman who gets up in the morning and washes her hair because she can't bear it being dirty, but simply doesn't have the time to blow dry it.
We have all been there.

We have indeed, but the incentive of having to stand in front of a class, face anxious or grumpy parents, or present INSET, means getting up earlier.

Hair! Apparently Johnson used to mess his hair up deliberately before going into the House of Commons.

Quite probably.
It meant people would focus on his hair and not what he was saying. Certainly social media spent a great deal of time criticising his hair.
Maybe RR is using the same strategy.
