Is Stress Of The Job Getting To Rachael Reeves......

.......because her hair used to be so well cut and obviously styled to within an inch of it's life before she appeared on the media.

Her appearance this morning, as she gave her pre-Budget weather warning, was notably not quite so. Significantly.

Is she growing it out? Or has she realised the job just isn't worth it anymore, hasn't lived up to her dreams and she doesn't give a stuff anymore?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 04-Nov-25 08:43:46

Her hair aside, RR, the PM and every Labour MP has been asked repeatedly if they are going to increase Taxes, NI or VAT. all have said they will stick to their manifesto promises.

So what was the point of this mornings address if not a warning shot over the bows of coming tax increases?

My goodness, she is one dangerous deluded woman!

So what was the point of this morning's address in a nutshell GrannyGravy to tell the countrythat whatever she does, isn't her fault.

Much like Farage yesterday explaining his U turns.

No comparison whatsoever.

Rachel Reeves is the current chancellor of the exchequer, she along with the PM is deciding how much tax we shall all be paying.

Her address was basically like a naughty school girl called into the Head’s Office it’s not my fault, it was him, her, the dog etc

Nigel Farage is leader of a group of five MP’s

rosie1959 Tue 04-Nov-25 09:04:59

Well that was a waste of 20 plus minutes and what was the point of it

keepingquiet Tue 04-Nov-25 09:05:29

My goodness we are now judging people by their hair?

At least she isn't our PM, like Boris Johnson was...

There’s such a disincentive to work under the current tax system, and there’s no sign that the Treasury has noticed. For example, it contractors are required to pay both Employer’s national insurance and employee contributions. Additionally, if there has been underpayment of income tax over £1k, then in addition to tax paid for the current tax year, half that tax again must be paid on the previous year’s income. Half in January and half in July.
Why would anyone bother?

Why?

If we are being "softened up" for the Budget, it must be that election promises are to be broken and the rich will have to cough up and the poor to see little change as funds will have to pay off our debts.

And yes, KQ, we are all judged by our hair!

Some people just like to judge - presumably they feel it's their only way to challenge those the don't agree with.

I thought she looked fine but it doesn't affect her ability either way.

loopyloo Tue 04-Nov-25 09:45:05

Watching peoples hair is fascinating.
Teresa May's changed over her time as pm and Trump's has toned down and looks less extreme now.
Rachel's always looked fake to me.

Calendargirl Tue 04-Nov-25 09:52:53

I think she has chosen to grow her hair, whereas it used to be a very neat, short, sharp bob. Very glossy and shiny.

It looks like mine did when I grew mine.

Rather straggly, not shiny, neither one thing nor the other i.e. not really long or short.

She probably would be better having it short and neat again.

Me, I had mine cut.

Still looks messy, but hey ho, I’m not on tv thankfully.

Smileless2012 Tue 04-Nov-25 10:08:40

I agree it was a waste of 20 minutes rosie and what was the point? Well to say in as many ways as possible that the budget we're all going to hate, isn't her fault.

Allira Tue 04-Nov-25 11:01:48

Well, DH told me about it as I didn't see it.

It sounds like a warning shot over the bows, very strange.

AGAA4 Tue 04-Nov-25 11:31:39

I didn't notice her hair. I was more interested in the excuses for putting up taxes.
Reeves has already made the lives of young people difficult by putting up NI so less jobs available as employers have had to cut back.
I wonder how long she will be in that job?

Wedi Tue 04-Nov-25 11:36:26

It was definitely a move by Labour to 'soften us up' a couple of weeks before the budget , when they're about to break their much vaunted promises . I wonder how many people were fooled ?

Pittcity Tue 04-Nov-25 11:43:26

I commented that her hair and make-up looked much better now that it was more natural looking, but still professionally styled.
She's only 46 and I thought the sharp severe cut was ageing.

silverlining48 Tue 04-Nov-25 11:49:38

I remember the massive hooha when Labour first brought in a minimum wage. I think it was something like £2.99 ph.
The fuss that businesses made, they woukd all go broke, close down, have to let go of staff/ coukd not employ new staff, in other words the world would come to an end.
If we want public services it has to be paid for. Our taxes are relatively low compared to other European countries but this constant need to lower taxes, would leave us like America where the poor and the sick have to fend for themselves. That surely is not what this country is about.

Hair! Apparently Johnson used to mess his hair up deliberately before going into the House of Commons.

Quite probably.
It meant people would focus on his hair and not what he was saying. Certainly social media spent a great deal of time criticising his hair.
Maybe RR is using the same strategy.

vegansrock Tue 04-Nov-25 12:15:55

Full disclosure: I used to have the same hairdresser as Rachel Reeves. Alas no longer.

eazybee Tue 04-Nov-25 12:24:50

She looks to me like a woman who gets up in the morning and washes her hair because she can't bear it being dirty, but simply doesn't have the time to blow dry it.
We have all been there.

We have indeed, but the incentive of having to stand in front of a class, face anxious or grumpy parents, or present INSET, means getting up earlier.
