How annoying Kitty. We used to always break a match in two if we had had two bad things happen

cornergran Wed 05-Nov-25 08:29:24

Hope the rest of the day is better kitty. Phew indeed.

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is 12°C.

I was exhausted yesterday, after being up early to secure my Tesco slot. I slept better, thanks to a bottle of Bailey's, I discovered. Obviously, I didn't drink the whole bottle but was seriously tempted..

Yesterday, I picked up next year's Halloween outfits for BabyDoll, at 70% off. DD will be delighted.
Last week, she wore a beautiful, frilly dress, which had cost me the princely sum of £1.74!
BabyD loves dressing up.

Our fundraising meeting last night was very productive. We were commenting on how well we all work together.
The members know that I am a stickler for following Safeguarding & GDPR protocols and demonstrating financial transparency.
They take great pleasure in winding me up.😉
It was such a pleasant evening, with many laughs. A pity you can't experience that in your church, GM.😔

Instead of wasting any more time and energy, why don't you just ask DD if she has the POA?

We have sold out the afternoon tea tickets (120 of them) and our latest venture will be a family Hogmanay party, with music and a buffet. That should raise at least another £1000.
We are on track to pay off our Diocesan loan a year early.

I forgot I had a hairdressing appointment, so will miss the funeral of my bridesmaid's uncle.
Borrheid has informed me that my bridesmaid will be at the funeral, I haven't seen her in over forty years. I'm disappointed to miss her, but between medical appointments and childminding both this week and next, there is no suitable alternative date.

Borrheid, I hope have made it safely to your mum's.
Look across the road at 11am and see if you can spot me.😉

Hoping that your house move has gone well Aldom and you are happily settled.

Dragonfly, waiting to hear of some improvement in your husband's condition. 💕 and of course thinking of the FGTs.

Have a pleasant day, folks.

A belated goodmorning to you Mick and all GN's from a chilly rainy grey morning in North Yorkshire. It is light enough to see the tree ok but I have closed the curtains on it again, as it is wet and miserable and cold so far. I did not have a good night, and little sleep but eventually sometime after 4am I fell asleep again. You would think I was pleased for that, but it seems to always happen now, that if I go back to sleep, I end up with nightmares that I dont remember what actually happens but wake up , sometimes sweating, with a headache and trouble recognising where I am for a moment and the heart is racing etc. So yes have had a bit more sleep but feel I am paying for it!! My plan to go very early to the supermarket for much needed milk and a couple of other bits before the market opened and cant use the car in the high street has of course now gone to the wayside. So it has taken me a while to get myself back to a normal morning mode, thankfully as always Bach , and a decent cup of coffee improves the day and I try to mentally reset my brain and call that the start of the day in a better way.
So here I am at last.

Yesterday I felt my halo was shining a bit, as combined with the weariness of having been away for the weekend, my back and my knees were more than usually painful, and that encouraged me to spend most of the morning sorting and throwing out papers etc. I was able to put things back in their rightful place, make sure that clothes were sorted and also get the washer going, so while that was chuntering away, I sat like bag woman, with a selection of papers and marked up things waiting for my attention. So I went through things, cutting out marked bits, adding dates to the calendar, and then got the washing out on the line. Then went off for a few bits, called in at the bank, and checked out a couple of shops, but they did not have what I wanted. Still hunting for a pepper mill from a charity shop but no luck so far and am in no way paying the price for a new one!

It had stayed bright and breezy, contrary to what the forecast had said, so I did all that I needed to and treated myself to a coffee in cafe Nero. A lady at the next table seemed intrieged by my producing my china mug from my clean little bag inside my shopping bag, and when I had come back to the table , asked me if I always brought my own cup. I explained that for me , coffee deserved to be drunk from china, paper cups are horrible and thick earthenware is also not so nice , in my opinion, plus the fact that I get a stamp for bringing my own mug. She said she had never thought of that , but would now copy my example and carry her cup with her, as she agreed with me that it was much nicer from china!

So then got home and did a bit of tidying round, listened to radio 3 whilst more bag sorting, but didnt feel up to tackling the everlooming dresser. I think I need to have someone here to help me start and give me the impetus to get the dratted thing finished and get rid of it , or at this rate it will still be here at christmas! However I make no excuses for going out any time the weather allows as I think we have to make the best of autumn weather and get out in the morning, while there is any daylight, or you end up coming home in the gloom and doom. So now into winter mode, with spare thin thermal gloves in all coats and little torch handy, especially for checking on car and door keys. Some bright spark in the town made these parking bays where two of them are right next to grids and grates as you get out. I hold very tightly to my keys as the last thing I can deal with is keys down the grid. couldnt get down to even try to reach the keys in that situation! I went to the games night as usual last night. Very enjoyable but came out rather reeling from a very complicated game, which I have seen only once before. I thought I had understood some of the rules, but now leading on from the easy bit there are variations to learn, which means that in certain situations all the bits I have already learnt are altered and do not count!! I did make the most of the journey home through the high street, as the local department store Barkers makes a special effort with their windows and have an opening of them etc that people enjoy going to watch. I didnt go down for that as I knew that I would be going to the games, so on the way home was able to stop with hardly any traffic around at all and go across and study all the windows at my leisure. They were very well done, but looking at the prices , dont think I shall be doing much buying, but appreciated the efforts made for each window. Enjoyed all the lights around as well so a cheering little bit on the way home.

The day is not improving at all, lighter but still cold and rainy with more leaves dropping down, so not the morning to use the yellow peril. Hope it is at least dry by tonight for the fireworks.

As I am so late you are probably getting off to Bicester by now Mick. GrandMattie well done for the great efforts. It is a big sum of money to raise. If you have time, could you make a very long list of all the things that need doing to wave at the Teflon kid when you meet? Two things from that are that firstly , you show that you are determined not to let them get away with anything , and secondly to see everything in a long piece of paper has to show just how many things have not been done in the past and you might mention it would be a good christmas present to you all if they got on with the jobs so that you could all start the new year in a better state and be able to draw a line under the past and go on with a more helpful and efficient manner for the new year!! Yes well the pigs might be flying past if he agrees but it would show your grit and determination. We would have to rename you the TerrierGranny determined and never giving up!! Susan56 do hope that the facetime call works out well for you. If your mum can get the hang of it , it would no doubt be better for you to at least see each other and give you some reassurance as to how she is. Fingers crossed that it all goes well. Grandmabatty good to hear your little grandson is coping well with his arm and things are on the mend. Good idea from the teacher and will be helpful to you too. Karmalady congratulations on getting the boiler back working before the weather turns really bad. It will be a load off your mind to have it sorted, but you have also certainly learned quite a bit about your house and how the heat works, which should be helpful in the future. You always have so many things on the go that you can now give your full attention to, so cheers and award yourself a decent cup of coffee drunk in the warmth! Kalu, I really need to get my bulbs done as they are still languishing in their bags and have some paperwhites to plant too, which you reminded me about. Hope you have another good day today. Greyduster Happy Birthday for yesterday, sorry I hadnt seen that as had to go out before managing to read all the posts. Redcar good news about your tree, so you can enjoy it without worry now.

Well the rain seems to have eased a bit but not stopped, so think I had better shake a leg and get to the bread shop before my favourite loaves have all gone. Hope everyone has a good day, and enjoys the fireworks and bonfires tonight with no accidents or mishaps.

Good morning everyone from a cloudy Northampton, but there is a hint of sunshine. Should stay dry according to my weather app but Alexa says showers...

Actually put washing out yesterday morning, and it was all dry before I set out to join my walking group after lunch. We had a lovely autumn walk in the sunshine, enjoying the mild weather.

A morning of pottering then a trip into town after lunch to find a little extra something for DGD1's 18th birthday next week. She was on our local radio on Monday morning talking about her school's policy on mobile phones - she is a very articulate young lady. Her school has banned mobiles during school hours.

Nearly finished my knitted cat! Just the front ears to do, then it will be sewing up, stuffing and embroidering the facial features. I need to order some blue cats eyes and stuffing material off Amazon.

Off to switch the washing machine on and get the towels done.
Wishing all a pleasant day.

Marydoll Wed 05-Nov-25 08:39:11

Susan, I hope today goes well for you.

Kitty, what shocking news. Your poor neighbour.😪

Grammaretto Wed 05-Nov-25 08:41:36

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
If you can see the hills it's about to rain, if you can't - it's raining.

Mild though. I have yarn group and printed off a pattern for my next make. A multi coloured, non itchy sweater for 10yr old DGD.

Your poor neighbour Kitty How dreadful. I hope she'll recover.

I'm glad your DGS is getting on with things. Grandmabatty. I remember my boys with stookies and all the autographs! You probably can't write on the modern ones.

I hope your DH is making good progress Dragonfly

Have a grand day whatever you get up to everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 05-Nov-25 08:43:02

kittylester I hope your friend makes a full recovery.

Your poor DD, what a horrid thing to happen to her cat 😿

harrigran Wed 05-Nov-25 08:49:49

Good morning from a rainy NE.
Yesterday I did little jobs around the house and in the evening my sister rang from Germany, we were on the phone for more than one and a half hours.
She was on holiday in Poland on her own last week and wanted to tell me all about it. She enjoyed the change of scenery but some of the organised trips were too strenuous for her, she is 85 next month. Who takes a bus load of pensioners down a salt mine with 800 steps ?
This afternoon my younger sister and BIL will visit and take me shopping and then we will have a chat when we get home. Last week they were away visiting their GC.
Have a good day.

Good morning all from cloudy Lancashire, the rain has just stopped. I was so relieved yesterday to get my blood results and find that my sodium is now 141, well within the normal range. This is a huge weight off my mind. I’m going to get my shower now then we are off out for our morning walk, I’ll read the full thread later.
Wishing you all a good day whatever you’re doing 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

Bellasnana Wed 05-Nov-25 08:57:14

hollysteers Wed 05-Nov-25 08:59:39

Good morning from a damp northwest coast. The music club went well yesterday. Three of us host in turn and one has just come out of hospital. I have the choice of being on the desk or doing the tea break. I host as like to keep out of the kitchen.
A grocery delivery and quiet night in.

Today off to the usual lunchtime recital and opera co rehearsal tonight, so it’s all music.
Thoughts to kittylester dragonfly and all🌺

Stilllearning Wed 05-Nov-25 09:29:37

Good morning from my bit of South Lanarkshire, miserable day outside and I’m off on my travels later this morning , my childminding day has changed to Wednesday. I’m meeting my eldest DGD for lunch on the way so that is nice.

I’ve only scanned the posts, I’ll read properly later on the bus, but that was a horrific incident for your neighbour kittylester, how sad and frightening.

All needing support remain in my prayers, wishing everyone the best day possible x

GrannyIvy Wed 05-Nov-25 09:33:27

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it is a bit grey but reasonable temperature and no rain forecast. DH is off cycling with his friend and lunch out so I am going to do some housework which is easier with an empty house!

I am later up this morning (after our neighbours Book/wine gathering last night) so haven’t had a chance to read anyone’s posts yet but will do so when I sit down for lunch later.

Hoping everyone has a good day

aggie Wed 05-Nov-25 09:37:02

Good morning from the west midlands.
A bright, blustery day here today at Ilovedogtowers.
Dear hubby has cleared off into town (yessss!) Oh it's so peaceful & myself & The Dog are busy packing-up a return item. Easier said than done, as it seems to have tripled in size since it arrived!
Have a peaceful & safe day everyone.
