How i hate this ad. The loud shouting voice of the girl singing goes right through me. Puts me right off buying anything to do with Miss Dior!!!🙉🙉🙉

I’d forgotten this but when I was newly divorced I was in a relationship with someone who totally broke my heart. And I bought a Barefoot Doctor perfume called Chi/Qui which was supposed to make you totally irresistible! I can actually remember the smell now I think about it. I think it actually worked for a while but it was a doomed relationship anyway. Barefoot Doctor used to have a column in The Observer and I’ve got his books which preached mindfulness before it became fashionable. However it didn’t seem to help him unfortunately and he is no longer with us sad.

The ads are aimed at sex.
It's all about seduction and enticement.

Oh dear.

I'll stick to l'Occitane or Clarins 😁
Not in the mood for seduction these days.

..or empowering.
Or both

I had no idea which this advert was until somebody mentioned Natalie Portman. I can sit through any number of adverts with no idea what they were about!

MayBee70 Wed 12-Nov-25 14:18:09

Are these adverts aimed at men so they will buy certain perfumes for their wives and girlfriends?

Kats2 Wed 12-Nov-25 14:15:01

Just to let everyone know in case they feel tempted to buy a bottle of Miss Dior..There are two version out there now, the original one from years back which I always buy, and a new version which is pink in colour and very sweet smelling! So ask for the original its slightly pale green in colour and in a dimpled bottle..And try them both before you buy..

Maybe, I agree about the Coco Mademoiselle advert, the girl is so stunningly beautiful., I can't take my eyes off her, she has an exquisite face. I also love the perfume. How many years has the Jean Paul Gaultier ad on the boat been running? I think its a great advert, but could they not come up with something new by now?

I agree about the Miss Dior ad, she's also got a 'mad' look in her eyes.
What a vile way to sell such a lovely perfume.
My current hated advert is when a dopey guy says "I'm going for a break" and then walks back with wrappers stuck to himself. Whichever jobsworth designed that marketing ploy needs the sack..it is utterly ridiculous.

What do you think of the Pepto Bismol advert with people singing about diarrhoea and touching their bottoms!?

Etoile2701 Wed 12-Nov-25 10:55:17

I thought it was Keira Knightly too.

Sadgrandma Wed 12-Nov-25 10:53:23

Just watched it out of interest - awful. Sounds like a banshee!

It's Janis Joplin, isn't it?

Yes it is Janis Joplin. I love it ☺️

TheWeirdoAgain60 Wed 12-Nov-25 09:19:03

I don't have a TV by choice, so I got it on YouTube, and I can see what you mean!

The model is gorgeous and so is the perfume, but all that awful screeching and racket ruined an otherwise lovely advert! ]

As for Joplin, I never considered her to be a singer; she had an awful ''makes me bleed'' type of voice!

keepcalmandcavachon Wed 12-Nov-25 08:41:24

"There's a fragrance that's new today, and they call it
Charlie"
I'm sure to be singing that all morning now!

Nannee49 Wed 12-Nov-25 08:26:45

Never a big Janis Joplin fan, though I do love her version of "oh, Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz".

Miss Dior was my very first grown up, real (expensive) perfume - as opposed to Tweed or Tabu or Freesia by Yardley - but it's unrecognisable now from the sophisticated original, really much too sweet like most perfumes today...Thierry Mugler's Angel has a lot to answer for!

As for the bit in the ad where she says "and you? What would you do for love?" to me, she just looks gormless. Very beautiful but gormless.

Flippinheck Wed 12-Nov-25 07:59:50

I only watch news and current affairs live. Everything else is recorded so that I can skip the ads, but I have noticed that some programmes no longer allow you to fast forward through the ads. I hope this going to be a growing trend.

The link I posted earlier was Natalie Portman speaking

I love Whitney Peak in the Coco Mademoiselle adverts. I didn’t know who she was so had to Google her. I always stop what I’m doing and watch her ( bit like the Timothee Chalamet one from the other year). Keira Knighley used to do their adds. I was in the kitchen last night and the Miss Dior ad came on the tv in the living room and it still grated on me!

Deedaa Tue 11-Nov-25 20:18:36

I rather like the Tom Ford ad with Tilda Swinton in dark blue. It makes it look as if it's a sophisticated perfume.

MayBee70 Tue 11-Nov-25 17:39:37

“Keira Knightley was just 12 when she played Sabé, Queen Amidala's decoy in The Phantom Menace ⭐️🎬 She looked so much like Natalie Portman, even Portman's own mum couldn't tell them apart on set.20 Apr 2025”.

Calendargirl Tue 11-Nov-25 17:24:24

I thought it was Keira Knightly as well!

Had to look it up, and saw it was Natalie Portman.

MayBee70 Tue 11-Nov-25 17:23:47

I don’t think they’re similar now. But when they were much younger, when girls in their late teens tend to have chubbier faces, they were alike. It was at the time when I rather went off Star Wars films as so much of it was computer generated but I did go to see that particular film.

Allira Tue 11-Nov-25 16:43:03

Yes, they are.

I wonder if they've researched their family trees and found a connection?

MayBee70 Tue 11-Nov-25 16:37:25

In one of the Star Wars films Keira Knighley and Nicola Portman played roles in which they were supposed to be mistaken for each other because of their similar appearance.
