Good morning Mick and all GN's on a still dark monday morning in North Yorkshire. I am now sat here clean, smelling sweet with the lovely conditioner smell of roses to cheer me. You are my final thing to remind me that this is real and the previous feelings were not!! I woke in a horrible state, hyperventelating, sweating and all muscles tight. It was horrible and even when I recognised it was just a dream - which I couldnt even remember !- I just couldnt calm down. No idea why, no horrible film or book yesterday to set it off, but whatever caused it at any rate I was in such a state and could not seem to calm down and my heart was racing. So hurrah for the shower! Not only does it make me feel cleaner but somehow the water seems to let my body know that this is real and the rest is rubbish. So on the positive side at least I am here clean and a bit more relaxed and listening to my Bach again. Hurray for that!!

As I say, no idea what brought this on. Yesterday was a bit of a frustrating day, but mostly clearing up things, reading the paper, and watched the service at the Cenotaph. Whatever job I was doing seemed to require extra checking out and finding things, and so although I mentally know I have done quite a bit of sorting out, it doesnt feel like it, and cant say the room looks a great deal tidier!! Full of aches and pains I didnt even venture out at all, so really must make the effort to at least have a little walk around.

So shortly I shall get some breakfast, get dressed and then have some shin beef that I want to make into a comforting casserole. One of my favourite cuts of meat for a good flavour. So mundane things like peeling carrots and chopping onions will be a calming and simple thing to start the day with, and will be rewarded by a great casserole (I hope!)

Yesterday I tried out this fish bake from the local fishmonger and success. Very good but a little sloppier than I would make it. However it was very tasty, a good mix of fish in it and will become another useful thing to add to my menu and much cheaper than the Bingham one is. Only problem is that it has been frozen, so when they sell it from their stall, it is ready to cook but not to be refrozen. I might investigate where they are when they make them and see if sometime in the future I could go with a chill bag and get some frozen to add to my freezer choices. It fufilled my needs , tasty, well made, and for days when I struggle standing for long, can be cooked in the airfryer easily, which is all good for me.

So after this rude awakening, I hope to calm down and do the usual boring housework stuff and get my casserole made. Then have a friend visiting, so must at least try to tidy up some of the endless mess. I used to get a certain amount off my electricity bill, not the winter fuel bill, another thing which I just cant remember its name. But I have changed electricity people and dont seem to get it from them. I need to check what it is called and get in touch. Cannot afford to miss out something I am entitled to , especially with the costs these days.

I have seen notices that The Chorus is a good film to watch, and it is on this week I think in Thirsk , so want to check up on that and may be able to go to a matinee of it on wednesday. This little cinema is run by volunteers, and is the one you would see in All creatures great and small. It is just as the old cinema I went to as a child - but no usherette

shining her torch at noisy children and selling icecream from a tray. They have a great idea there in that when you buy a ticket, you get a stamp and when you have ten stamps can go free to the next film. Great idea to me., and just recently there have been one or two films that I am interested in, coming out. Not a fan of zombie kinds of things or murder mysteries etc so it will be pick and choose.

Have no great plans for this week, unless when I look at the calendar I see something I have forgotten! I want to go down to Thirsk when I am able to walk more freely and wander round and look at all the great work done by the Yarn Bombers, who always make such brilliant covers for post boxes etc, so a small treat will be to go there, hopefully enjoying the autumn colours on the way, then look at the various knitted clever things from them and then go and enjoy a coffee in Nero's. Well we shall see what turns up. Everywhere is full of christmas things now of course and I am now prepared to look at things and start thinking of what I need to do. Will not be making a christmas cake nor mince pies. I am a decent cook and my pastry was always pretty good, so making home made flaky pastry for sausage roles, and calorie filled lovely pastry made with butter and orange juice for the special extravagent mince pies , was always part of my christmas baking, but unless someone asks me for some for a charity do somewhere I shant be getting the rolling pin out!

Mick hope the rain has stopped by the time you get to Bicester and you meet some friends. Baubles your tree already looks very nice,. Do you have any thermal long johns for use next time you go there?!GrandMattie I should look out of the window to see pigs flying by, to ensure your heater people arrive!! Grandmabatty hope ou succeed in wrestling the clothes over the stookie and that the day goes well for him and you. Georgesgran hope you have better news of your daughters car .Susan56 hope you have a good journey and still have some autumn colours to enjoy on the way.

Well Gransnet has helped me this morning to get back to a calmer reality and so hope everyone has a calm and peaceful day with few problems to conquer.

Good morning from a damp W Kent. Good catch up with DD2 yesterday. The ups and downs of dealing with young adults.
Today the cleaner will come this morning and I hope to start writing my Christmas cards. It seems to take much longer now even though fewer are sent.
Love the Christmas tree baubles

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s mild, damp and drizzly, I hope it will clear later.
A quiet day yesterday, I changed the bedclothes, washed and dried them, went for my usual walk, met a friend and stood chatting to him for too long.
I’d ordered some bulb fibre and some weedkiller from Amazon ant they were both delivered so I can get on with planting some amaryllis bulbs. I did start the dusting too.
Today, I may go for a wet walk and finish cleaning downstairs.

ekwaNimitee beautiful photos and what a lovely holiday!
grandmabatty I hope that dgs2 will enjoy being with his friends at nursery again.
Thinking of all those with mountains to climb this week and hoping that life gets a little easier for you all.

Have the best day possible everyone (even though its Monday!)

Good morning from a calm Torbay after a very wet day yesterday!

We had a good service yesterday in which there was an Act of Remembrance. Our organist played The Last Post and Reveillé, using suitable stops on the organ to good effect at the beginning and end of the Two Minutes' Silence. Afterwards we sang The National Anthem which I found moving.

A restful night's sleep makes such a difference, Grandmabatty and is ideal with your busy day ahead! I hope DS2 enjoys his return to Nursery.

A great idea for a Christmas Tree, baubles; very effective already!

We have missed you, EkwaNimitee but glad you have had such an inspiring trip. New Zealand is one of my favourite places in the world. A stunning vista around every corner!

Move It or Lose It today then a play rehearsal tonight. The director has had Covid but most of the cast still turned up to practise in her absence last week. We shall open our production of It’s A Wonderful Life a month today.

Have a good week, if possible, everyone. 🦩💐🦩🥰🦩

Good morning from a damp East Midlands.

Gardener is supposed to be coming to remove the many leaves but I suspect it is too wet.
Will visit DH later and hope the physios have been.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Welcome back EkwaNimitee.

Sounds like an amazing trip.stunning photos.

Good morning Mick and everyone. Here I am back from several weeks visiting DownUnder! First to DS2 and family in Sydney and then a 2 week road trip down through New Zealand with DS2. What a wonderful country it is and 2 weeks is totally inadequate to explore all it has to offer. Apart from the sheer beauty of it, I was so impressed by how tidy and well organised it was.....no litter and clean public toilets everywhere. Australia is much the same although, admittedly, I haven't been to the more dubious areas of big cities.
Sorry to come home really for various reasons.
One of my first duties was to take the car for a major service and MOT. Expensive enough but it needs a repair and new bit costing almost as much as the service. Then it's me that needs a service....to my teeth, as a front crown fell out early on during the trip and I decided to wait till my return to deal with it. It wasn't painful and I didn't want to spend any part of my holiday in the dentist's chair.
Today is back to the usual routine of cleaning and laundry and dealing with a pile of admin.
I'll catch up with all your doings in due course, hoping all is as well as can be with everyone.

Good morning from Shropshire.A day of sunshine and showers forecast.

Yesterday was a quiet day.We watched the cenotaph service then housework and laundry. After lunch just reading and some tv.We finally put the heating on probably because we were just lounging around we felt cold.

Today we are going over to Staffordshire to collect DGS1 from school and take him to his golf lesson.DD2 will meet us at the golf club where we will have something to eat before heading home.

I hope the little one gets on ok at nursery Grandmabatty.

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Good Morning from Durham. It’s rained through the night and a bit of a wet week is forecast.
Such a busy weekend with DD2’s car problem and having both DGSs here and not helped by the pains and stiffness in my right leg. It has woken me a couple of times and I can’t seem to get it comfortable.
I’m looking forward to a quiet day, with the usual Monday morning coffee with a friend. Must visit my rental house to collect keys, then I hope to hear that DD2 has had a more suitable courtesy car delivered - her Mini should be ready on Friday.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from damp s somerset

Weather was not nice yesterday so I did cosy all day, even lit the fire but I can only do one day of this without feeling like a blob.

Baubles, your project is lovely

Ocado is arriving soon and it is a relatively big/expensive order, I cannot resist offers on things I use anyway. I will just plonk whatever I can into a storage basket and keep it in my garage. I have the hampster mentality when it comes to winter, having been snowed in several times and once in somerset for 6 weeks, without warning

I need to be more active today and the easiest way is to start with a hilly walk, then the day can take whatever form it likes

Stash busting is happening and I am aiming to reduce my sock yarns, first by knitting socks, as many as I can and followed by making either the hitchhiker shawl/scarf or noro fan scarf.

Sock-making boredom has set in and I am finishing the third pair. Luckily it is mindless knitting and I know the pattern without looking at the paper pattern. 3 pairs in the same yarn, 2 x reggia 6 ply balls. Lovely yarn to be fair. No family is getting more than one pair in the same colour. Boredom might mitigate today, I will change the yarn

Have a good day

Good morning from Malta where the high is forecast to reach 22°C with a chance of showers.

Apart from the ironing, I didn’t do much yesterday except sit in front of the tv.

As usual, I was moved to tears watching the Cenotaph service. As soon as the massed bands start I’m sobbing.

Enjoyed the tennis from Turin and will be watching again today.

No plans but will do a bit of cleaning and possibly rearrange the boys’ toys which are taking over my living room.

Wishing a good day to all.☀️

Love the tree baubles

Grandmabatty Mon 10-Nov-25 05:42:31

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 9° and wet. Still very dark. Baubles I know how annoying that must be.
Yesterday I went to Aldi, got the food shop and picked up a few Christmas cards, tags etc. Then home to tidy up which didn't take long and potter about. Dinner was roasted salmon with assorted vegetables, most of which came from my neighbour's allotment.
Last night I had an excellent sleep for me. I was only up once and slept well. Today is early childcare day. I'll have to wrestle with dgs2s stookie to get his clothes on for nursery. I'm expecting him to need picked up early as I think he'll be tired. Dsil is collecting dgs1 from my house later for football training and dd will pick up dgs2 thereafter. In between I'll do some volunteering at the school library. So a busy day ahead. Have a good day all.

RosesandLilac Mon 10-Nov-25 05:37:42

Good morning, it’s drizzling here in south Glos, hope it stops before I get to the school for my garden volunteering session.
We had a nice morning dog walk yesterday but it was very muddy and slippery underfoot. There was a big gathering for the Remembrance Day celebration in the market place and we watched the local Regiment march from the camp to the village.
For a small village there is always a huge turnout.
I didn’t do a lot for the rest of the day really, some knitting and reading and a bit of painting.
A quiet week ahead, suits me fine!
Take care everyone 🌹

grandMattie Mon 10-Nov-25 05:36:19

The Christmas tree looks lovely already, baubles.

grandMattie Mon 10-Nov-25 05:35:24

Good morning from Bristol.
A quiet day for me yesterday;I mostly knitted while watching various things including a rather touching film about Siegfried Sassoon.
To my surprise, DS called me in the late afternoon. It seems that the internet blackout has been lifted, but politics/things are still very uncertain in Tanzania. The population is waiting to see what happens on 9 December, their Independence Day.
I’m having to stay in all day today as I’m supposed to have a new heater put in - no times given, if they actually come. I’m not holding my breath because a) the contractors are totally unreliable, and b) several residents here have been given today as “heater day”, and c) a friend who lives in the neighbouring estate run by the same company says that they too are having heaters done.
This evening, I’m going to a WI committee meeting. It’s not especially well run, and although I have had several positions in Kent, I feel I have something to offer. If it doesn’t work, I’ll resign this time next year.
I hope this week rings brightness to all.
Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning Mick, morning all from South Lanarkshire, it’s to be cool and rainy today.

I was so annoyed with myself yesterday, I was doing my usual count os collections after Mass, there were three different pots of money and I managed to make a complete hames of it, not once but twice. Had to spoil two paying in slips before I got it right. Felt like such a numpty.

Anyhoo after a quick change of clothes and a bite to eat it was off to a cold barn to get started on the task of attaching crochet squares to our Christmas tree frame with a few of my yarn group pals. Hoping to finish it next weekend.

Laundry and housework today, joy of joys.

Wishing you all the best day possible.
