I wonder how much longer people will want their bodies covered with tattoos and full of metal piercings?
When will the men tire of stubble on their faces and shaved heads?
And will other, even uglier, fashions replace them?

When my daughter had a tattoo whilst at university, I was furious, I deducted £45 (the cost of the tattoo) from her next monthly allowance, she was very angry!

A row ensued, she accused me of being old fashioned.
She pointed at an old photo of me in an 80’s dress and laughed, I simply stated the dress had been donated to a charity shop and thankfully I didn’t have to wear it for every smart occasion in the future, you my darlng are stuck with the tattoo.

The penny dropped, she hates it now.

I am thankful that neither of my children have tattoos or piercings. I must have brought them up right. lol.

My niece has a nose piercing which she things is really radical, but no one really cares- she's well over thirty and not a teenager!

One person's ugly is another's attractive. I seem to remember san swful lot of criticism of the clothes we wore in the 60s.

i just shut ,eyes faced with soem f the things \d\s and daughter wore in the 90s

DGS and DGD, always seem to dress very nicely. No tattoos, shaaved heads or designer stubble - on either of them.

I have a tattoo and I like it, neither of my adult cherry have one.
I love some if the edgy things people wear or have done. Previous generations always complain about what the younger generations wear or do.

rafichagran Mon 10-Nov-25 16:10:17

Children not cherry. Don't know where test comes from.

I have 2 full sleeves and have started a big tattoo on my shin. I have never been beautiful but now people stop me in the street to admire my arms. Lots of compliments.
Each to their own. hugs

Wow, awful lot of judgemental people on here!

boheminan Mon 10-Nov-25 16:22:57

Here we go again...the anti tattoo army marches on. So many previous threads on tattoos and they all end up the same. They're like Marmite, love or hate em.

Hithere Mon 10-Nov-25 16:26:33

Beauty is on the eye of the beholder

I personally do not like 60s and 70s fashion at all, it is too overdone- but you do you and if it makes you happy, who am i to judge?

tanith Mon 10-Nov-25 17:14:29

I dont like tatoos but one of my daughters has them as does her daughter its their choice but I don't approve honestly.

Magenta8 Mon 10-Nov-25 17:35:21

I think it is entirely a matter of personal choice. If tattoos, piercings, designer stubble or shaved heads are your thing why not.

Well if you have a thread entitled”Ugly fashions” it’s going to be judgemental by definition isn’t it?

I hate them .
Some years ago my daughters mother in law decided to have a tattoo and wanted to get me to have one .
I said no politely, but she was disappointed.
A friend had one to celebrate her fiftieth birthday..Her husband wasn't happy .
I heard her telling him that Esmay is getting one at her age .
I wasn't.

I don’t mind the small pretty tattoos, a butterfly on the shoulder or ankle.Less is more.

Allsorts Mon 10-Nov-25 18:40:28

I don't like walking past tattoo parlours and seeing the customers with every bit of visible skin tattooed or pierced. I would not employ anyone with visible piercings or tattoos. I also don't like a shaved head with a a mohican on the top and naked midriffs on a flabby body.
I look at photos of me in mini skirts and they really were mini but mother never commented. I think every generation want to be the opposite of their parents.

My son shaves his head because he is almost bald. I think that he's quite good looking, and so does his lovely wife.

Babs03 Mon 10-Nov-25 19:43:37

I thought this thread was about the awful wide legged trousers dominating the fashion scene.🫤

My daughter has a small tattoo of a dolphin, which is only visible if she wears a bikini. On the whole I don't like women with a lot of tattoos because very few clothes seem to look good with them. Presumably the women who have their arms and chests covered aren't as bothered. I met a man who was completely bald and had the most amazing tattoo of a spider covering most of his head and I stopped and had a long chat with him.

crazyH Mon 10-Nov-25 23:37:21

My sons have got tattoos - I hate that. Whatever made them get the tattoos, I don’t know. I truly hate seeing tattoos.
Fortunately, their employers did not ask them whether they had any tattoos. One is a neurosurgeon and the other is the General Manager of a Pharmaceutical Company.
They certainly would not be able to get jobs as fashion models. 😂

Shudder!

I know various people who are covered in tatties. I have no objection to tatties, it's their bodies and they can do what they want with them, a couple of women who work at our 2 convenience stores - one is the manager - both have arms and hands covered in them - but I can't abide seeing them on necks, faces or heads.

The teardrop below the eye indicates prison/gang culture, even if you've never been involved with such things!

As for piercings, I can't abide them, full stop, not even ears. If I were an employer and someone came in for an interview and their ears were full of these huge CD disks and/or multiple piercings and the same to the face, they wouldn't get the interview!

I used to know a woman in her 20s - this was 20 odd years ago - who had chains pierced into her belly button and down into her ... you know what -! And a male work colleague had piercings in his ... you know what! - He offered to show me, which I refused point-blank, and I ran out sickened just thinking of it!

When I was working as a bus driver, a male driver said to me''have a look at this photo on my mobile'' It was his friend's ''thingie'' absolutely covered in piercings!

Just basic ear piercing makes me sick!

DM’s were ugly too when in fashion and worn with pretty dresses😬

Oreo Tue 11-Nov-25 09:24:06

Hard to imagine any person wanting the pain of a piercing on their thingie😂

TheWeirdoAgain60 Tue 11-Nov-25 09:25:14

DeeDaa, if I'd have seen that spidoid tattie on his head I'd have dropped dead with a heart attack as I'm arachnophobic!
